Wamba Community Trust was set up in 2005 and after 5 years of growth, registered with the Charity Commission in September 2010. This small family run charity’s ethos is that all donations go directly to the people that need it most, the people of Wamba. We have no paid staff and no CEO, we don’t use your money just to run the charity like many do or to fund trips to Wamba. - The projects use locally sourced materials, supporting local suppliers and avoiding import costs and duties. - Local labour is used on all projects, supporting the local community and developing ownership. ## **My Visits to Wamba July 2025 and January 2026** I was accompanied on both my trips by my daughter Ruby and our main focus for the trips was to have planning meetings with Asha and the Wamba Women’s Health Workers - Jain, Marie-Teresa and Isobella - who were planning for our Gender-Based Violence Awareness Training. These face-to-face meetings proved to be so valuable as communication via Whatsapp can be quite difficult at times. You can read more about the very successful project below. In July we were also able to visit Wamba Girls Secondary School and have really good discussions with the girls we support to make sure they are all happy in their education and have all the resources they need. Lynet, one of our previous supported girls, came to visit us in Wamba in July and proved to be so helpful in mentoring some of our supported girls who had left secondary school and were struggling to find courses to join. Lynet spent a long time with Florian, Fransisca and Roselyne going through their options and helping them to apply for admission. They are now all settled into their chosen courses. ## **Gender-Based Awareness Training** The idea for our latest project was brought to us by Asha, a young woman who was supported through education by Wamba Community Trust and wanted to give something back to her community. The project’s main aim was to empower young women of Wamba to have the confidence and understanding to stand up for their basic human rights, focusing on providing support and education to improve their quality of life and their future prospects. Training provided knowledge about what constitutes gender-based violence and equipped the girls and young women to recognise early warning signs and where to seek help. Many planning meetings were held throughout the year with Asha and Community Health Workers Isabella, Jain and Maria Teresa. Ruby was able to offer a mentoring session with Asha which helped her focus and structure the training to empower the participants to share their experiences in a safe, non-judgemental space. The delivery of the training took place in two phases. In December 2025, there were four one-day sessions held in a conference room in Wamba Town with a total of 180 participants. The second phase of training was held over 8 days and took place in the more rural villages around Wamba, often meeting under a tree. On average 40 women and young mothers took part in the one-day training with a total of 320 over the 8 days. The training aimed to create safe spaces where young mothers could share their stories, understand their rights, gain emotional support, and learn how they can protect themselves and their children from GBV. The sessions were highly interactive, reflective, and culturally sensitive, with some discussions conducted in Samburu language to ensure full understanding and reduce language barriers. ## **Ruby Pre-School** We funded the refurbishment of the second classroom at Ruby Pre-school and provided food for the children when the government supplies failed to get there. We also bought uniforms, books and other resources which were needed. After the summer holidays they returned to the school to find the termites had taken over a wall, so we had to fund the removal of the termite nests, and the wall to be repaired. ## **Empowering Girls and** ## **Young Women Through Education to Employment** Our visit in January was before the schools returned after the Christmas holidays. This led to us being in-undated with requests for assistant with many students' fees. It is so hard to turn some students away and we really have to get a full picture of their situation before agreeing to support them. I do this by talking to older members of the community and school Principles. As we are a small charity, it is impossible to help everyone. Stoney was referred to us by Josephine Kuela, a Kenyan Women’s Rights Campaigner from Samburu. We agreed to pay her fees to board at DEB Primary School and will continue to support her throughout her education journey. I instructed my good friend Kamanga, a Wamba Community Trust Volunteer in Wamba, to buy her all the items she needed for school such as mattress, bucket, uniform etc. Ntilarin was referred to us by the Principle of Ntepes Primary as her mother had recently died and her father was struggling to bring up 6 children on his own. We agreed to pay her fees and buy all the requirements she needed to board at the school. I first met Jeremia in 2015 when he was a 9 year old boy who had lost most of the movement in his legs and arms. He lived with his uncle but was left to lay on the floor in his hut all day as his uncle didn’t know what to do with him or have any resources to send him to hospital. We paid for him to go to Nairobi hospital and after tests he was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. I sort advice about how we could help improve his quality of life as there is no treatment. We bought a wheelchair and mattress and paid for 6 months physio and supply of healthy food. Discussions with his uncle made me realise that caring for Jeremia was causing him a lot of stress and he was finding it very difficult to take him to school each day and regular physio sessions at the hospital. So we agreed to pay his fees to go to Divine Providence Home for children with physical disabilities where he stayed for a few years and was thriving until he had an accident and fell out of his wheelchair and broke his leg. After a short time in hospital, the school refused to take him back as they felt he was too vulnerable and would likely have another accident, so the only other option after doing so much research, was to send him to Humara Home in Wamba for orphaned children, all of whom had severe learning disabilities. There he stayed until he died. ## **Trustee Patricia Yeabsley** . I also have to report that my mum, Pat Yeabsley, and Trustee from the very start of the charity died in June 2025. I was with mum on my very first trip to Kenya in 2005 where the idea of starting the charity grew. Although mum never got to Wamba, she was a great supporter and helped with many car boot sales and held annual coffee afternoons at her house to raise essential funds. ## **Some of our other Achievements this Financial Year** We provided funding to extend the water pipes at both Margwe and Millimani villages enabling more members of the community to have easier access to water. We paid for Sam to attend his final stage of Referee Training which means he can work at the highest level of games in Kenya. We paid for Lucy who works at the Lodge we stay in to have an eye test and glasses as her eyesight was causing her so much distress. ## **How we Raised the Money** Most of the money raised is from kind donations from friends and family and we couldn’t achieve what we do without their support. A very big thank you to all that have contributed. I spend a great deal of my time applying to Trust Funds and Foundations and I am always delighted when applications are successful, and the Trustees can see the real benefit the money is making to the community of Wamba. I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. ## Independent examiners statement I have completed my examination. I can confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: - Accounting records were not kept in respect of the trust as required by section 130 of the Act; or - The accounts do not accord with those records.
