To advance educatlon for the publlc benefi¢ In partltylar but not excluslvely, of 50clalty andlor
economlcally disadvantsged children In Afrlca. The Foundation provldes support for educatknn and
training. It also assists chlidren with dtsabilitles and alms to provkle rellef from poverty.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORhUNCE
St Mlcha•l's School Kllolo
The Foundatlon continued to arrange the SKh)fLsorshlp of 40 students at St MichaeV5 khool, Kllolo. In
Tanzanla. In 2019 the Foundatlon a150 took over the admlnlstratlon of 6 additional students
sponsored by St Mlthael's Church, Chester Square, London: however slnce 2022 there has been only
one student SPDn50red by St Michaefs Chester Square. The Headmastsr of St Mlchaeys School Is Mr
Franc15 Malugu. A member of the teachln8 Staff acts as coordlnator with DTCF.
In JanuarylFebruary 2023 there were three outbreaks of fire in the 8lrlg sleepinB quarter4 all In
daytime. The first two were major fires whlch badty damaged the domltorles tO8etherwlth most of
thelr contents (personal property and beds and mattresses). The thlrd fire was more mlnor and
qulckly extin8ulshed. The pollce were In￿fved from the beglnnlng but no culprit has been identlfled.
Mercifully novorvè was injured. Repair5 were compteted in June; there ha￿ been no further
outbreaks. The Trust made a dOn￿￿)n of £5405 towards repai￿ and hxal people and other Schools
have made donatlons to help coverthe cost of Items destroyed.

In October 2023 St Michaefs School was visited by trustee Anthony v3￿han and hi5 wife Sue. They
Interwewed students as well as members of stsff and were pleased with the responses they
T￿1Ve(l. However some of the buildings requi￿ conslderable maintenan￿. All of the sponsored A

level students15tutyng at Mvumi Secondèry School) were visited and inter4lewed and appeared to
be dolng well. The Re￿rt of visits to both schools is given below.

both building5. This had now been repaired except for mlnor repair5 to the Bible School. The
Blshop was grateful for the flnanclal help recelved from DTCF and Storrln8ton Rotary Club.
The pollce had been Involved and had questloned the glrls but the perpetrator Is unknown.
No further flres have occurred.

standards, very impressive. School facilities also impressive. Met our sponsored A level

the Deaf - a happy place but In need of financlal help. Wrapup meetln8 wlth Blshop Joseph,

The Trust made a donatlon of £l,(XXI to Irlnga School forthe Deaf to help pay the salaries of

Rlchard and Jane Gill were last able to visit this sch￿1 in February 2020. just before the beginnin8 of
the Pandemic. A￿Sit in 2022 Wds deemed unwise because of an outbreak of EboL8 feverand
subsequentlythe Forei8n & Commonweath Office has advised against all essential tfavel in the
area followtng sevetal armed incursions from DRC whlch have resutted In dvlllan deaths.
RAP<D was founded in 2CK17 and aims to support the parents of disabled thiklren. prlndpally by
providin8 appropriate educat5on, and èlso by maklng local communities aware of the ri8hts and
potentlal of these chlldren, and by (lefendlng those rlghts where ne￿S53ry. Its main base Is a
boarding Khool in Kase5e, western Uganda. which provides primary educatKsn Iclasses Pl to P71 for
dlsabled chlldren. All of the pupits are dksabled, mostty with blindness, deafness or cerebral pa15y.
Almost all of the chlldren are boarders, being drawn from vlltage5 in the greater Kasese area and
beyond.
Slnce the last trustee vlslt In 2020 a shortage of cla￿roOmS has been remedied with the con5tructlon
of two addltlonal classroom blocks, each wmprising two classrooms. An addthnal hostel has a150
been built. More re￿ntty the DTCF have made a donatlon of £i,IXQ towards the constructlon of a
septlc tank system for the hostel.

Thls nursery school was eskb115hed In 2LK)5 to.cater malnty forthe chlldren of pO0￿r f4mllle5 Sn the
Immediate locallty of Kagando. preparln8 them forentry Into the prlmary school system. ￿ was
started in a very small ￿ nted bullfllng of poor quality, but In 2015 land adjacent to the school's
ortginal sltè was purchased for bulldin& and by 2018 a three dassroom bl¢xk had been built. In 2020
new latrfne bl¢xk was complèted alongside the maln buSldln8. The two remalnln8 unsecured
lassrooms were fitted wlth windows and doors to make them fulfy secure: thls was achleved wlth
grant of £ILKxI from DTCF In September 2021.
With the arr￿31 of the Pandemic. schools were shut across Uganda. These were gradually re-opened
In a t[e￿d fashlon from Aprll 2021. Additional requlrements before schools could re-open Included a
Secure perlmeter fence. a ralnwater harvestlng system. addfttonaS benches. a school nurse and PPE.
A Brant of£lCW was made by DTCF In 2021 to set up a ralnwater har¥estln8 system and thts was
operational in 2022.
