Rectorfs Rewt 2023 All Saints, has continued In its ministry and mtssion to be a Wekomin& Supportrle. Incluslve and Godty parish over the past year. This has continued to be shaped bythe various sub-committees which meet to drwe forward our vision. We have been very blessed by God as a communrty and muth has ChaInged us as his Ewple here in the heart of Slamford. We welcomed a new priest with Revd. Scotvs ordination in the summer, a new administrator and Children's, Youth and Families Worker in November, along with the appointment of the new Director of Music who took up his p05t at the be8inning of 2024. These changes are still in their infancy as we navigate these ministries and look to how God is shaping them for his kinEdom with all the challenges of modern life. We welcome Benedict Todd. Sally Schelpe and Niam4 Holman to the staff team and give thanks to God for bringing them to us. We continue to be blessed by the clergy team here in their ministry and mission and I personaliy, as the Rector. am so grateful for them. Thank you io all the clergy fcr you wisdom. good humour and ministry. Within the Dlocese. we welcomed our new Diocesan Bishop. Stephen Conway as our 73 Bishop in November. BF5hop Stephen continues to implement a Time To Change Together inttrative (TfcT) where parishes work more Close with each other to bring the Good News of Christ to Greater Lincolnshire. As a key mission church here in Stamford we are working more cbsely with the parish of the Seven Churches at Uffington undèr Fr. Aran Beeslev which began in 2023. There were numerous special services and events that took place in 2023. We celebrated the Coronation of King Charlès111 WTth a Sun8 Eucharist and a Thank58i¥in8 Service. We marked Battle of Britain Sunday and Baby Loss AwaneSS Week. We marked Remembrance. Harvest along with the major feasts ofthe churches year. Baptisms, weddings. ftTrneral and memorial Ser¥e5 have been fomied much of our mission. These Services have guided those joining us here as the Body of Christ: lebrated those marrying in the eyes of God and 5UPPOrted those who we have been commended and committed back into His amis of love and trust. Most notably we said a very sad goodbye to Ray Boreham, June Headley, Joan Renfree, Sarah Iveson and Irene Bailey. These ladies of noble character and faithful love are greatty missed by us as a parish and especially theirfaml15. As I reflect on all that has bÈen, with the joys of new people joinin8 U5. of our grovrth in the kingdom. we face new demands on the church building as we look to the future. We now need to seek anew what God is inspiring us to do with this building, prompted by the boilerfs untimely demise. How do we as God's people share with those around us the Good News of Jesus Christ wfth the building that we have and the resources that are available to U5P l am always being reminded that we are not a club but a church. We exist to worship and our mission Is to bring people into a deeper un(lerstanding of who they are as God'5 children. loved and saved by Christ. This message, I feel. is not very popular in our modern world but we will continue to do this and to share this truth with those around us. The year was certainty a busy one. I was recentty rn1nded that rninistry In the Church of God is never qulet and cler8y who long for an easy ministry are in the wrongiob!! We a not busy for bLtsyness' sake, but to inspire deeper fatth In God and a closer walk with him in liFe. ITURGY AND HIP SuKOMMfEE Due to staff changes, the Liturgy Group ha5 onty managed to meet once in the last year, on 4 March 2024. At this inaugural meeting the group discussed the nature and purpose of lrf¢urgy to better equip themselves for the task presented to them by the PCC and spett out in the Wision Staternent. Worship ond St7crumental life, which is now three years old. The group noted that signtft(znt Pro85$ had been made on thrs document but there was stlll more to be done and wrth a new Director of Music it could appfy itself to the task MO fulty. The group listed what it thought were the pressing tssues to be resofved and will prioritize these and others at its next meeting. Christopher Armstrong Ichairl Choir Report The choir began the year wtth ambrtigU5 plans for the future. However, at the beginning of June the Director of Music resigned and the decision wa5 taken to susnd the Junior choir until the appointment of a new Director and the Adult Choir replaced an anthem at Sunday Eucharist with a hwnn sung in harmory. The choir were grateful for the support of the organists Davld Lovell Brown and particularly Gavin Ashley Cooper. the latter running a short rehearsal before each Sunday service. With the help of some additional singers the annual seiCe of Nine Lessons and Carols was maintained with great SucsS. In Novemberthe church aPFM)inted Dr Bened Todd as the new Director of Music who began worklng at All Saints. in January 2024. The daytime Bible Study group has met throuEhout the year. enjoying thoughrful discussion and Sharing ideas. The most recent themes have considered the growth of the earty church and the challenges it met, through a study of Acts. An evening group has also started meetin& looklng at the book of Romans. Bible reading notes have been made avarlable as a"swapshop" in church, enablin8 anyone to try out a new style of da1 bible adIng and this year a further selettion of material for Lent ha5 teen added. During the year a day was held at the treat centre at Little GdIng near Huntingdon. This was well supported and offered a quiei dèy, with time to share tdeas. a meal togetherand relax in beautiful surrountling5. The dav concluded with 3 time of worship in the love thurch there. It 15 planned to offer a pattern of similar events over the coming year, making use of nearby retreat centres and the treasure which is the quiet churchyard garden at St John'5 across Red Lion Square.
The monthly prayergroup has continued throughout the year and as part of our way of getting to know our parish better,"virtual prayer walks" have been held. tracing routes around the parish and praying for people and places along the way. We are bSSed wr(h a growlng team of interces50TS who lead ourSurKlay intercessions, supported by a number ol others who hold in prayer the people on our prayer IrsL The prayer space in church has continued to be well used by ¢hurch members and visitors. Prayer slips left there a hehj in prayer during the week and again when they are taken away at the end of each week Than Is are due to the many who support the pastoral and discipteship work in our parish, hostin& planning and praying. Whilst much of this work takes place in the background. it is so imwrtant. Let us pray that the Lord will continue to bless and grow our vision for our congregation and parish. Paul Middleton (Chairl Pastoral Visllors Report Currentty we have eight visitors. Unfortunately. one of our team has had serious health issues and is unable to vlsit people forthe foreseeable future. We wish her a speedy recovery. The team was sad to k)se another member.. June who died last year. June was an enthusiastic YrtOr aftd even when rt was difficult for her to physically visit people, she spent a lot of time phoning instead. We are all grateful for her contribution. She is greatly missed. Fr. Neil has organised training for visitors in March wtth Louise from the Evergreen Trust. She will talk aboLrt listening skills and dementia. The team welcomes new membets. Speak to Fr. Neil rfyou are interested. We continue to rely on the cOngatIOn for referrals and try hard not to miss those in need of a vistt. We are 8rateful to our clergy for their support and actfrve pastoral work Helen Taylor (Chair of Pastoral Visitors) ANGELISM AND SUKOMMIThEE The Evangelism and Outreach committee met during 2023 to drive fop*ard this part of the vision. There is still a great need for others to join this group. Warm Spare The biggest development in this area of the church is the development of Warm Space over the year. Warm Space meets every Monday and provide5 food and a warni space at The Unity cent Ltween 11-2. Thi5 project has grown ovei the year wrth more ènd more people coming. It is a real shame in England in 2024 that it is needed but it is a great outreach for us here at All Saints, and well supported with volunteers under Revd Scott's leadership. Grants vjere secured in 2023 from Waitrose to 511PPOrt this work As we k)ok to the fvture. we desperately need someone to take on heading this project up. If no one comes forward, I fear it may have to c105e which is terrible for us as a parish responding to the needs of our town. Churches Together School's Festl¥al The Churches Together Schoofs Festi1 turned in 2023 and wa5 brilliant. Primary sthools from across the town partitipated in this event looking at the subject of the LEht of Christ. Traditionally, this event has come from Churches Together in Stamford but Fr. Neil has said All Saints, will work to keep this great festival 80ing. It will be headed up by us with huge inVoement from all the other churches across the town. 2024,5 festNal is being planned now by Clare Camp and Niamh Holman.
Coffee Bar On Ivth August 2023 the Coffee Bar at All Saints, brated its first birthday. The C(Jffee Bar is open al the back of All Saints, every Friday 10- 2. It 15 run by aare Carnp and 6 other volunteers. It offers tea. coffee, homemade cake and companioriship. It has capacity for 16- 20 seats and are regularly full. On a Friday we welcome lots of visftors from all over the country and love ltstening to their stories. We aLso have a group of customers who come along every week, Members of All Sainw congregation visit regularly and those on coath trips to Stamford and the surrounding aa pop in. If you haven't been yet, please come along and enjoy the homemade cakes whilst StttFng in an amazing setting With lots of good company. In 2023 from May 19th to June 30th. we held Peregrine Watch Day5 alongside the Fr*Yay Coffee Bar. TOM Mackrill and a team of conservationists were on hand to tslk to ourvisrtors about the nesting peregrines and let them wateh the birds through binocular5. theirtelescope and the Iwe feed. Stuart Wison took some amazing photographs that are on display at the back ot church. There was also a special Peregrine Watch Day on 14th July to coincide with the Global Bird Fair. Clare Camp Karen Neale Art Projert All Saints, commissioned Karen to create a painting of the church in 2022-2023 and we au¢tioned the painting and prints, along with other prizes in June. It was a great evening as it demonstrated to our town that we at All Saints, are a welcoming community and a very friendty bunch. Art workshops have taken place throughout the year led by Karen, running alongside the coffee bar. which have been well 5UPPOrted as people from across the town have come Into the church building and painted aspects of IL Ever8reen Trust All Salnts. has begun to work more closety with the Evergreen Trust in 2023 and this will contlnue throughout 2024. Evergreen provides home care Servi for the vulnerabk in Stamford, Bourne. The Deepings and the surrounding villaEes. St GSlberfs School Good relationships have contlnued wrth our church school. Fr. Neil leads Collettive Worship on Monday mornings and four membèrs of the parish sf( on the goveming body as Foundation Trustees. St Gilbert's have come into church to learn atjout Easter and worship in 2023. The Revd. Nikki Mann Garden" was completed in September 2023 and we hope to have a formal opening of the garden in 2024. Messy Morning events have continued to help with potential reception class students, led by cla Camp. Niamh Holman and Rev. Scott. Fr. Without it, mu¢h of All Saints, ministry and mi55ion coukl not take place, including Warni spa and Unity Youth Group. Basic statistics are: 979 sessions on Site from 1st January 2023 to 315t Dember 2023,. approximately 90% of these were regular hirers, at least once a month but more often once or more a week, e.8. Foodbank. children's groups. One-off events made up the other sessions. including but not restricted to the LakesKle Patbent Participation Group, the Stamford Twinning Association, Mick's 80th Birthday, the Burns Night Supper and Harvest Lunch. Tower Tours Two days of Tower Tour5 returned during October hawtenn holaY and were enthusiasticaliy received. The guides certainly got thelr steps in and the peregrines were on holiday at the time so they were not disturbed. Tours will take place again in 2024 we hope. if we can get more volunteers to support it. Final thoughts... All Saint5 continues to be Invofved with the town hall and the work of the mayor. The group has now been running for two years and we have developed a core group of regular members consisting of children aged 0-3 accompanled by parents, grandparents and childminders. This has become a close friendty communty communicating through our WhatsApp group. We also have occasional members and newfaces are always popping up. We have refined the layout of the room5 we use,. St Clements acts as a welcome area where push ¢hairs are parked and nappbes chan8ed in the warm. Hot drinks are served before enterinE the main room that is set out with a range of activities to encourage the children to wander and select their own fvn. We Celebrate three Ma)r Christian Festwals through the year at Easter. HaNest and Christmas. giving each child a party bag with a small themed booklet and blessing cards. During the past year we have also Introduced our prayer tree- those we wh to pray for are wrttten on the leaves and these are put in the prayer basket in the Church prayer corner to be offered up at the Sunday service. We still struggle with storage which limits the range of toys we can provide but hopefully thi5 can soon be Olved. We are very grateful to the church lads who have funded this group. all our equipment and toys. Also. thank% to Kate who aayS ensures, on the coldest days. that the heaters are on in good time before we start,. much appreciated by all. We have been very sorry to say farewell to Andrea who has been an inspiration in the fomiation and running of the group, bringing her musrczl skills and experience working with Child. These were well attended and the work produced was included in the annual antholobry. However. the regular users of TPOT dropped to unsustainable levels and so the decision was made that at the summer break TPOT would cease to operate in rts current form and we discern what the next forrnation of the youth group should I(k like. TPOT ha5 served the church well but as with an ever- changing society we fett that we needed something that could be muth more fiexible and dynamic. Thank you to all who have volunteered and given time to serve the youth of our community. Scott Gardiner Standalone Events Throughout the year, we organised Various standak)ne events for children and youth. Attendan and spending for these events varied depending on the nature and scale of each one. Clare Camp organised the Good Friday woik5hop, whlch featured seven actwitie5, including making the Easter Garden and decorating 3n Easter basket for the Easter Egg hunt afterthe service on Easter Day. The workshop reIVed excellent attendance from our congregatM)n, children from St Gilbert's School, and visitors. Clare and Ntamh will collaborate to njn the 2024 workshop. Additionally. we hosted a messy moming at St Gilberts for potential new starters in September 2024. which attracte(J approximatety 20 families. Plans are unden¥ay for two more messy mornings in 2024. In November, Year 3 children from Malcolm Sargent VrIed All Saints. church to leam about the tme meaning of Christmas. Rev. Scott and Niamh organised this event and offered the chiklren three actNit*S Using candy ¢ane5 to teach the true meaning ot Christma5. Rev. Scott and Niamh have also been working with Malcolm Sargent to 511PPOrt their RE curriculum, including organising a rnock wedding with reception children and making Chri5tingles with Year 4. Further support is planned for 2024. Other notable events include the well-attended Christingle and Crib seNices, which drew children from St Gilberts and Makolm Sargent. Conclusion Overall. the children's and youth services offere(l at our church have continued to thrive, with consistent attendance and meaningful engagement. The alk)cated funding has been used effectNely to enhance the experiences of participants through the purchase of necessary supplies, materia15. and resources. Niamh Holman, Children's, Families and Youth Worker IChair} FABRIC SUBIOMMI The year began with problems with the roof wrth a number of minor leaks and one signThcant leak at the WÈst End. Following advice from Me55enger Group a lead specialist was employed to spend up to two days examining the roof in detail and to carry out any necessary repairs. Damian Dare Leadwork SpeCialts were asked to undertake the task. The nece553ry repairs were undertaken and, apart from two very minor drips following a particularly heavy storm, were successful. Subsequently Oale ha5 been empk)yed to carry out four inspertions a year and he w411 clear gutters and downpipes and inspect the roof for any damage to the lead. He ported that the ad on the roof was in good condition and should last for some years to come. In October the oil boiler was condemned folk)win8 its annual service. It emerged that the fimi previously employed to look after the boiler- now no longer in business- had failed to maintain it properfy. In openlng it up a problem emerged wf(h asbest05 and at the time of wrrting we are war(ing for a professional firni to deal with the issue. Temporary heating was brought into church and a working group has been set up to find a replacement heating solution. A Consuking engineer has been aptxjinted to conSer the optnS for heating PlaCement whKh will seek to balance time, cost and environmental impart of any solution proposed. A broken louvre in the tower has gNen acce5$ to Pigeons. A temporary solution was attempted to keep out pigeons but it is clearthat there is a heafth risk an(1 potential damage to the fabric caused by the build-up of pigeon excrement. Another working group is working on a solution. In November the organ was re-leathered.
The chLFrch architect who produced the last qijinquennial ha5 retired and the process ha5 begun to appoint a replacement firm. The aim is to find an architect who wrll both inspect the building and also assist in the dèvelopmènt of a prioritised plan for the projects currentiy being considered. These include work5 to preserve the fabric as well as those focused on enhancing the lrfe of the worshipping comrnunty. There were Questions regarding the practicalities for Stamford Deanery itself which Martyn responded to. He did also advise that ear in 2024 there was to be 3 34ay retreat with the new Bishop for all the Clergy and more pertinent infomiation for the indrvidual Parishes should be forthcoming after that. Martyn reported on the rent meeting of General Symod. Prayers of love and faith were the main item and the vote was split 50+150. The number of regular Sunday service ringers has crept up through the yearfrom four to six to elght, helped by some of the St Martin's band joining us after they have rung for their own service. The practice nights have Erown from octasionally to weekty and expanded to a on-mOnthty joint prattice with St Martin's, who can try 8-bell methods at All Saints. to add to their 6-bell repertolre. These have been well-advertised and seen up to 20 people in the tower at a time, drawn from churches around south Lincolnshi. Peterborough and Cambridgeshire. The Coronation of King Charles 111 on Saturday 6th May was celebrated by a band including one ILal rlnger who returned to the exercise after a 3&ar£ap, and the Rev Scott Gardiner. all duty noted in The Ringing World which
records national important bellringing achievements. We rang again the followng day forthe Civic Service of Thanksgivin8 when Saints, hosted the Town Council to fflark the occasion. Vtsitors from Worcester Cathedral. the Oxford Diocesan Guild. and St Martin's-in-the-Bullring Birmingham, enhanced some of the summer Saturdays for everyone in the centre of Stamford, as well as seven weddings'.worth of ringing. The Churches Together Schools Festival once again saw two groups of children come up the tower and try their hand at chiming a bell and take home a pirture of a bell. they had designed themSee5, so we hope that may inspire sorne future ringers. Learners this year have been drawn from our own congregat)n. and we hope they have enjoyed makin8 progress. There'5 smiles all round at a success1 piece of ringin& and usually laughter at trying something new which may not quite work the first time. There's aaYS room for more learners. erther at All Saints. on Wednesday evenrng5 or at Ss Peter and Paul. Great Casterton on Thursdays, where members of our band have a second prartice and sUPPOrt their learners in turn.
