TRUSTEES REPORT 2023-2024
The year started with an offer by Siemens, the Rail Village developer on Tom
Pudding Way, of a railway carriage with the potential to provide our Group, a Visltor
Centre, Trustee5 had the opportunity to inspect the carriage and there were
discussions about the possibility of Siemens apprentices helping to modify the
carriage according to our needs. As discussions continued, it was apparent that, with
our limited resources, and without ERYC support, it could not be maintained with
regard to toilets and security. Siemens provided support throughout the year, eg
installing bat and bird boxes, track and car park maintenance.
During Spring, The Queen Elizabeth Memorial Meadow was sown with its
development monitored throughout the year. In May, funded by the Goole Town
Deal, information boards and direction markers were installed on site. Snaith
Walking Group asked the Friends Group to make a presentation in Snaith Priory in
the presence of other local walking groups.
As Summer approached, several organisations including Andys Man Club, visited
Oakhill for recreation, athletics training and general improving wellbeing.
Two trustees met with the Police to discuss a vandalism incident and the
perpetrator carried out some remedial work.
Our new name Friends of Oakhill Goole was registered with the CAF Bank.

In October Slemens applied for planning a Bogle Plant on the original site New
Potter Grange. A conslderable number of mature trees wlth TPOS would be felled,
For this reason, an objection was made with Goole Town Council support.
British Sign Language (BSLI board5 were positioned on site. These were funded by
Goole Windfarm.
Siemens positioned blrd and bat boxes on slte.
Cllr. Ray l<llcoyne Joined the Trustee's Board as Goole Town Councll representatlve.
In November 2023, Selby Beekeepers located a beehive on slte,
In December 2023 We receieved a donatlon of £3000 from Siemens.
In January 2024 we discussed plans to produce a 2025 Calendar.
In February 2024 we had discusslons wlth Siemens and ERYC representaties about
mltigation measures to compenste for the loss of the trees at New Potter Grange
prlor to their Bogie Plant development.
We met with Goole Museum Curator to discuss an Oakhill exhibition to be held in
the Summer.
In March 2024 Bat Boxes and Bird Boxes were instslled on slte.
Permlsslon was sought from contrlbutors who would provlde photos for the
Calendar.
Throughout the year, our trustee who slts on the Internal Drainage Board (IDB) gives
regular updates on issues as they occur on site.
Plans for the future
Acqulred funds are being set aslde by the Group in order to provide a Visitor
Centre/Bird Hide wlth tollet facilities. We want to encourage more school visits, and
lack of toilet facilitles has always been a deterrent,
We will continue to build up our pool of volunteers for maintenancce and litter
plcklng sessions.
We wlll bulld on our partnerships with local organisations and companies as an
Important networklng exercise and continue to publicise Oakihill as an importsnt
recreatlon area using local and soaal media.
