Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)

You may choose to include further statements, where relevant, about:

We are very grateful for the ongoing support and dedication shown by our volunteers at home, preparing for our trips, developing teaching material and helping with fundraising. We are also grateful for the time that our travelling members dedicate to support our trips to the Iraqi Kurdistan to help fulfil our objectives and hope to resume these trips later this year. We recognise that their contribution is essential for us to function as a charity and we are especially grateful to our Chairman who has continued to make trips during the pandemic when travel restrictions have allowed. Likewise, we acknowledge the support of our charitable and health care contacts in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah who facilitate our trips, help us with patient selection and support and take care of us in Iraq.

The focus of NGMV’s medical volunteers will continue to be the delivery of hands-on health care via our professional volunteers. We will also continue to organise seminars and educational events to teach our fellow health care professionals at home and in Iraq.

Plans are well underway for the introduction of a further faction to the Charity focusing on teaching a variety of life skills to young people at home and in Iraqi Kurdistan. The Life Academy will aim to empower people to tackle challenging life topics that are rarely taught in traditional educational establishments. It will promote a cohesive society by increasing awareness of various aspects of life through innovative experience-based learning by providing a forum for knowledge exchange and self-development leading to self-actualisation. These changes will be registered with the Charity Commission.

Section D Achievements and performance

Activity Summary of the main Sadly, our regular bi-annual trips to Iraqi Kurdistan could not go ahead achievements of the charity due to the pandemic travel restrictions. It is hoped that they can resume during the year in late 2022. However, our Chairman did visit on more than one occasion and was able to work with Swisscross and local health care teams to deliver a range of orthopaedic and musculo-skeletal services to the local population. He also organised, hosted and participated a number of international courses, seminars, webinars and virtual research courses over the year. 10 Year Anniversary Our Chairman hosted a very well ‘attended’ Internal webinar in January 2022 to mark the 10 year anniversary of NGMV and to promote positive engagement in charitable causes. The webinar also served as a vehicle to introduce the concept of a Life Academy that will promote social coherence and the individual development of a variety of positive life skills leading to self-actualisation for young people at home and in Iraqi Kurdistan. Life Academy The concept of Life Academy was formalised and a committee appointed to take forward the implementation and management of the charity’s new faction. The Charity Commission was informed and a change of name request was made to reflect this addition to NGMV’s purpose. Fund Raising All funds raised this year have been from individual donations
