trustees and examiner under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an
independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
examine the acC￿unts uthr section 145 of the Charities Act,
to follow the procedures latd down in the general Directions given by the
Charity Commission (under section 145{5}(b) of the Chanties Act, and
to state vthether particular matters have CA)me to my attention.
Basis of independent My examination was carried out in accordan￿ with general Directlons given
examiner's statement by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the
accounting records kept by the thanty and a comparison of the a¢counts
presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual
items or disclosures in the acu)unts, and seeking explanations from the
trustees con￿mIng any suth matters. The proodures undertaken do not
provide all the eviden￿ that would be required in an audit, and
onsequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true
and fairf view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the
statement below.

KAT UK raises funds for the benefit of the
pUl￿1C to relieve the suffering of stray dogs
and cats in Kathmandu in need of care and
attention and to proV￿e facilities for the
recepts'on, care and treatment of such animals
includin
a humane birth contro￿1 rogramme.
Since the founding of KAT in 2004 around
45,0￿ street dogs have been vaccinated
against rab￿$. ovar 30.000 dogs have been
Steril￿ed arKI over 18,000 sick dogs and cats
have been treated as well as over 1,200 dogs
homed.
KAT Centre has also raised the awareness of
animal ￿tIlaTe and related public health
issues by working with schools, local
communrties, local organvzations and
individuals. Tourists and local citizens have
notic£d posrtive dlanges in the behaviour of
communitEs towards stray dogs and other
animals. Pecple now proactively care for and
provide food for stray animals and often bring
sick or injured animals to the I<AT Centre for
treatment.

KAT UK continues to raise funds through
PayPal donations as well as dired payments
to the UK bank account. TV￿ grants were
received this year totalling £2443. These WEre
from Vets Without Borders, Denmark and
Catholic Concern, UK. Both in support of the
rescue, treat￿ent, vaccination and spaying of
street dogs and associated animal welfar8
projects in Nepal.
A total of £25,629 was sent to Nepal during
the year. This was less than previous years
due to the reduced work by the staff in
Kathmandu after the start of the pandemic.
KAT UK continued to provKJe funding, advice
and support to the KAT staff during the
dfficult period of th8 Covid pandemic
induding fundng a feedirKJ programme for the
stray dogs.
During this a¢counting periixl funding was
sent to enable a dinic to te opened in the
n1￿ of Kathmandu so that staff could
continue the treatment and sterilization of the
stray population in the city without money
passing via the Nepal board vtho are under
investuation by the Social welfa￿ Council of
Nepal for failirvJ to dedare all foreKJn
payments received and poor accounting.
These concems regarding the govemance of
the KAT Nepal l)oard were also reported to
the Charty Commission in a Serious Incident
No.9415
