CONTACTS WITH THE SCHOOL PASS THROUGH TOM BAGOOLE AND/OR ESTHER BAGOOLE. WHERE IMAGES OF THE CHILDREN ARE USED FOR PUBLICITY/FUNDRAISING, PERMISSION IS SOUGHT AND THE CHILD’S ANONIMITY MAINTAINED. ALL TRUSTEES ARE TO OBTAIN A DBS CHECK AND UK VISITORS TO THE SCHOOL ARE REQUESTED A BASIC DBS CHECK. ## **Section C Objectives and activities** **Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document** THE OBJECT OF OUR CHARITABLE WORK IS TO SUPPORT THE EDUCATION, WELFARE AND DEVELOPMENT OF SOME OF THE ORPHANED CHILDREN OF BUSIIRO VILLAGE, LUUKA DISTRICT, UGANDA IN PARTNERSHIP WITH HEALING FOCUS ORPHANAGE CENTRE (HFOC). **TAR** 2 2024 **Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)** 250 ORPHANED CHILDREN AGED BETWEEN 4 &15 ARE EDUCATED AT THE FREE SCHOOL. APPROXIMATELY 80 GIRLS ARE SHELTERED IN DORMITORY ACCOMMODATION WHERE NECESSARY. A MATRON/TEACHER HAS CHARGE OF THEM AND LIAISES WITH THOSE WHO GO ONTO SECONDARY SCHOOL. THE REMAINING PUPILS LIVE WITH GUARDIANS IN THE DISTRICT. THE SCHOOL STAFF NUMBERS 23. THERE ARE 14 TEACHERS, MANY OF WHOM HAVE BEEN AT THE SCHOOL SINCE IT’S INCEPTION IN 2010 AND THE VOCATIONAL TRAINING STAFF NUMBER 3. PASS MARKS AT SCHOOL LEAVING AGE, P7, CONTINUE AT 100%. ## **Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)** You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about: - policy on grantmaking; - policy programme related investment; UKHF HAS MAINTAINED A NON-DISCRIMINATORY POLICY AND ADHERENCE TO THE UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS IS PART OF OUR MOU AGREEMENT WITH HFOC. TO THIS END WE HAVE AVOIDED FUNDING FROM RELIGIOUS ORGANISATIONS. WE ARE PROUD OF THE CONTINUING SUPPORT OF GUARDIANS AND THE LOCAL COMMUNITY. • contribution made by OUR TRUSTEES ARE VOLUNTEERS, AS ARE OUR BOOKKEEPERS. volunteers. OUR PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATOR AND TREASURER IS THE ONLY OFFICER PAID FOR SERVICES. THIS IS MADE POSSIBLE THROUGH GIFT AID OBTAINED FROM DONATIONS. ## SECTION D ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE. 2024 WAS THE BEGINNING OF THE TRANSITION TOWARDS HFOC’S INDEPENDENCE FROM UKHF. TRUSTEES DECIDED THE UGANDAN CHARITY IS SET UP FOR SUCCESS WITH ITS BRICK BUILDINGS, ENERGY-SAVING STOVE, WELL, CROPS, AND COWS. OUR TRANSITION DECREASES THE AMOUNT OF MONEY SENT, WHILST INCREASING THE INCREMENT OF TIME THAT THE MONEY IS FOR. THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS THE TRUSTEES ARE STILL AVAILABLE FOR FUND FINDING, GRANT WRITING, OR SUSTAINABILITY BRAINSTORMING SUPPORT. IN JULY 2024 RUBY VAN DER MEULEN AND TIMOTHY MAMO VISITED UGANDA TO SUPPORT THE START OF THIS TRANSITION. A MEETING WAS HAD WITH A CHARITY THAT HAS EXPERIENCE WITH HANDING BACK FUNDING RESPONSIBILITY TO CHARITIES TO ENSURE OUR STRATEGY WAS GOOD. IT WAS MADE CLEAR IT IS PIVOTAL TO REMAIN CONSISTENT BUT SUPPORTIVE. REMINDERS OF OUR FUND FINDING, GRANT WRITING, OR SUSTAINABILITY BRAINSTORMING SUPPORT HAVE BEEN REGULARLY SENT TO HFOC. UKHF FOUND A NEW TRUSTEE WITH EXPERIENCE IN GRANT WRITING FOR AFRICAN CHARITIES – PERNILLA POOLE, WHO FORMALLY JOINED US IN MAY 2024. THIS HAS BEEN PARTICULARLY USEFUL IN OUR SUPPORT OF HFOC’S INDEPENDENCE AND GIVING THEM SUPPORT IN KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS FOR GRANT APPLICATIONS. **TAR** 3 2024 2024 WAS A NORMAL ACADEMIC YEAR IN UGANDA, WITHOUT ANY HEALTH RESTRICTIONS DUE TO COVID-19 OR EBOLA EPIDEMICS. MOST OF THE CHILDREN WERE HEALTHY, FED, AND EDUCATED THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE ACADEMIC YEAR. THE APPROXIMATELY 80 GIRLS IN THE SAFE HOUSE HAVE CONTINUED TO LIVE THE DOMITORIES SINCE THE COVID-19 LOCKDOWN AS IT WAS STILL NOT SAFE FOR THEM IN THE COMMUNITY. WE WERE ABLE TO RAISE ENOUGH MONEY TO CONTINUE SENDING THE 5 CHILDREN TO NKUUTU MEMORIAL SECONDARY SCHOOL. THEY ARE CONTINUING TO DO WELL AND HAD A GOOD YEAR, EXCELLING IN THEIR ACADEMICS. OF THE TWO COWS THAT WERE PREGNANT ONE HAS HAD A HEALTHY CALF AND THE COWS CONTINUED TO BE USED FOR MILK PRODUCTION TO SUPPLEMENT THE CHILDREN’S DIETS.
