## SECTION D ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE.

2023 BEGAN WITH THE FIRST NORMAL ACADEMIC YEAR SINCE THE GLOBAL COVID PANDEMIC AND THE LOCAL EBOLA PANDEMIC.

THE 80 GIRLS IN THE DORMITORIES HAVE CONTINUED TO LIVE THERE AFTER THE LOCKDOWN AS IT WAS STILL NOT SAFE FOR THEM IN THE COMMUNITY.

WE WERE, AGAIN, ABLE TO RAISE MONEY TO CONTINUE SENDING THE 5 CHILDREN TO NKUUTU MEMORIAL SECONDARY SCHOOL. THEY ARE CONTINUING TO DO WELL AND HAD A STRONG YEAR, BOTH ACADEMICALLY AND EMOTIONALLY.

ITEMS PRODUCED IN THE VTC WERE CONTINUED TO BE SOLD IN THE LOCAL MARKETS GENERATING A SMALL INCOME THAT WERE INJECTED BACK INTO THE SUSTAINABILITY PROJECTS.

IN BUSIIRO THERE ARE ALSO TWO COWS THAT WERE IMPREGNATED IN 2023 TO ENSURE INCREASED MILK PRODUCTION, AS WELL AS INCREASING THE NUMBER OF COWS IN ORDER TO MAKE THE PROJECT MORE SELF-SUSTAINING IN THE FUTURE.

IN ADDITION, HFOC HAS RE-STARTED THE BOOK MAKING PROJECT, WHICH TEACHES CHILDREN LIFE-SKILLS, HELPS CREATE EXERCISE BOOKS FOR THEM TO USE IN THEIR LEARNING, AND ALLOW THEM TO EARN MONEY BY SELLING ANY SURPLUS.

IN MARCH 2023 TOM BAGOOLE RETURNED TO UGANDA, AFTER HAVING SPENT SOME TIME IN CANADA SEEKING ASYLUM. HE ROLLED STRAIGHT BACK INTO HIS ROLE AS CHAIR OF HFOC, REGULARLY VISITING THE SCHOOL TO PROVIDE SUPPORT AND SUPPLIES.

DUE TO EXTREME DROUGHTS IN UGANDA WE RAISED MONEY IN 2022 TO BUILD A WELL. THE WELL WAS BUILT IN 2023, INCLUDING WATER TANKS TO HOLD EXTRA WATER AND A WATERING SYSTEM TO ALLOW FOR WATER TO BE EASILY MOVED TO THE CROPS. THIS HAS ALLOWED THE CROPS TO GROW WELL AND PROVIDE THE CHILDREN WITH FOOD.

ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL PROJECT COMPLETED IN BUSIIRO IN 2023 WAS THE BUILDING OF THE NEW NURSERY WITH LATRINES. THIS HAS ENSURED HEALING FOCUS SCHOOL ADHERES TO UGANDAN EDUCATION LAWS WHICH STIPULATES THAT NURSERY CHILDREN NEED TO BE IN A SEPARATE BUILDING AND SPACE TO PRIMARY CHILDREN. THE NURSERY BUILDING HAS BEEN DECORATED WITH ENGAGING EDUCATIONAL IMAGES, HAS SPACIOUS CLASSROOMS FOR BOTH NURSERY CLASSES, AS WELL AS AN OFFICE FOR STAFF.

UKHF CONTINUED TO SEARCH FOR MORE/NEW TRUSTEES BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL IN 2023.
