HEALING FOCUS ORPHANAGE CENTRE (HFOC) NGO IN UGANDA IS RESPONSIBLE FOR OVERSEEING HEALING CHILDREN SCHOOL. UKHF WORKS WITH THEM AND INTERIM MANAGER ESTHER BAGOOLE. 

- ALTHOUGH CONTINUING TO WORK TOGETHER WITH LES AMICALES DES ENFANTS, THIS IS NOT A PARTNERSHIP, BUT AN INFORMAL ASSOCIATION. UKHF AIMS TO PLACE 5 CHILDREN PER ANNUM IN SECONDARY EDUCATION. LES AMICALES ARE NOW RESPONSIBLE FOR TAKING 5 ORPHANS ONTO HIGHER EDUCATION. 

UKHF DOES NOT DEAL DIRECTLY WITH CHILDREN IN THE SCHOOL. 

CONTACTS WITH THE SCHOOL PASS THROUGH ESTHER BAGOOLE.

THE OBJECT OF OUR CHARITABLE WORK IS TO SUPPORT THE EDUCATION, WELFARE AND DEVELOPMENT OF SOME OF THE ORPHANED CHILDREN OF BUSIIRO VILLAGE, LUUKA DISTRICT, UGANDA IN PARTNERSHIP WITH HEALING FOCUS ORPHANAGE CENTRE (HFOC).

250 ORPHANED CHILDREN AGED BETWEEN 4 &15 ARE EDUCATED AT THE FREE SCHOOL. 80 GIRLS ARE SHELTERED IN DORMITORY ACCOMMODATION ON THE SCHOOL PREMISES. A MATRON/TEACHER HAS CHARGE OF THEM AND LIAISES WITH THOSE WHO GO ONTO SECONDARY SCHOOL. THE REMAINING PUPILS LIVE WITH GUARDIANS IN THE DISTRICT. THE SCHOOL STAFF NUMBERS 23. THERE ARE 14 TEACHERS, THE MAJORITY OF WHOM HAVE BEEN AT THE SCHOOL SINCE IT’S INCEPTION IN 2010 AND THE VOCATIONAL TRAINING STAFF NUMBER 3.

UKHF HAS MAINTAINED A NON-DISCRIMINATORY POLICY AND ADHERENCE TO THE UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS IS PART OF OUR MOU AGREEMENT WITH HFOC. TO THIS END WE HAVE AVOIDED FUNDING FROM RELIGIOUS ORGANISATIONS.

## SECTION D ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE. 

2022 BEGAN WITH THE OPENING OF SCHOOLS AFTER THE WORLD’S LONGEST EDUCATIONAL LOCKDOWN. UGANDA SHIFTED ITS ACADEMIC YEAR TO ALLOW CHILDREN A FEW MONTHS TO CATCH UP SO THEY COULD ALL PASS TO THE NEXT ACADEMIC YEAR. THANKS TO THE EDUCATIONAL PACKS AND NUTRITIONAL MEALS PROVIDED DURING LOCKDOWN THE CHILDREN CAME BACK HEALTHY AND ACADEMICALLY ON TRACK. THE ACADEMIC YEAR FINISHED IN APRIL AND THE NEW ONE STARTED IN MAY (A SHORTER HOLIDAY ALLOWED FOR A 3 MONTH DELAYED START COMPARED TO THE USUAL FEBRUARY START OF THE ACADEMIC YEAR IN UGANDA). 

THE 80 GIRLS IN THE DORMITORIES HAVE CONTINUED TO LIVE THERE AFTER THE LOCKDOWN AS IT WAS STILL NOT SAFE FOR THEM IN THE COMMUNITY. 

THANKS TO THE FACT THAT ESTHER BAGOOLE AND MEMBERS OF STAFF REMAINED IN CONTACT WITH THE COMMUNITY DURING THE LOCKDOWN, ALL CHILDREN RETURNED TO SCHOOL ONCE THE SCHOOLS WERE OPENED AGAIN. ADDITIONALLY, THANKS TO THE CONTINUED FUNDING OF THE TEACHERS’ SALARIES ALL STAFF STAYED AT HFOC DURING THE COVID LOCKDOWN. 

THE CHILDREN’S UNIFORMS, HOWEVER, DID NOT SURVIVE THE LOCKDOWN PERIOD AND WE FUNDRAISED SUCCESFULLY FOR NEW UNIFORMS IN FEBRUARY. 

WE WERE ABLE TO RAISE MONEY TO SEND 5 NEW CHILDREN TO NKUUTU SECONDARY SCHOOL. THEY HAVE SETTLED IN WELL AND HAD A STRONG YEAR, BOTH ACADEMICALLY AND EMOTIONALLY. 

UKHF TRUSTEES AND MEMBERS OF THE HFOC BOARD HELD A VIRTUAL MEETING ON THE 24[TH] MARCH WHERE THE FUTURE OF HFOC SCHOOL WAS DISCUSSED. THE INCREASE IN THE RUNNING COSTS OF THE SCHOOL WAS DISCUSSED AS A FUNDING ISSUE SINCE UKHF WERE PAYING 100% OF THESE COSTS. THE COMPLICATIONS OF COVID MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE HFOC BOARD TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE RUNNING COST OF THE SCHOOL. WE COMMUNICATED WITH HFOC THAT WE WILL DECREASE BACK TO 80% BY 1[ST] OF SEPTEMBER TO ENSURE OUR CONTINUED SUPPORT OF HFOC. 

SADLY, WE LOST 5 STAFF MEMBERS AT THE START OF THE NEW ACADEMIC YEAR (MAY), THESE WERE PROMPTLY REPLACED WITH NEW STAFF MEMBERS WHO HAVE INTEGRATED WELL AND WORKED HARD TO ENSURE THE ACADEMIC LEVEL OF THE CHILDREN REMAINS HIGH. 

CROPS WERE PLANTED TO ENSURE A HEALTHY DIET FOR THE CHILDREN AT THE SCHOOL, HOWEVER DUE TO EXTREME DROUGHTS IN UGANDA THE CROPS, AS WELL AS THE SCHOOL’S WATER RESERVES (TANKS) RAN DRY. THIS MEANT THE CHILDREN AND STAFF HAD TO FETCH WATER 15 KM WALK AWAY EACH DAY. THIS GREATLY DISRUPTED THE LEARNING AND CAUSED EMOTIONAL DISTRESS FOR EVERYONE AT HFOC AND UKHF. 

ON UKHF’S BEQUEST HFOC RESEARCHED AND GOT QUOTES FOR A SUSTAINABLE WATER SOURCE (BORE HOLE). THIS ALLOWED US TO FUNDRAISE FOR THAT SPECIFIC PROJECT. WE WERE IN CONTACT WITH THE NGO HELPING HANDS 4 AFRICA, HOWEVER THEIR PROJECTED COSTS WERE NOT INLINE WITH THE QUOTES HFOC HAD FOUND. THANKS TO OUR PATRON WE WERE ABLE TO FUNDRAISE ENOUGH MONEY FOR THE WELL WHICH WILL ENSURE FUTURE DROUGHTS DO NOT AFFECT THE CROP GROWTH AND HARVEST. 

ITEMS PRODUCED IN THE VTC CONTINUED TO BE SOLD IN THE LOCAL MARKETS GENERATING A SMALL INCOME THAT WAS INJECTED BACK INTO THE SUSTAINABILITY PROJECTS. 

SADLY, UGANDA FACED ANOTHER PANDEMIC NEAR THE END OF THE YEAR. EBOLA SWEPT THROUGH THE COUNTRY, WHICH MEANT THE SCHOOLS WERE FORCED TO CLOSE BY THE END OF NOVEMBER (A MONTH EARLY). LUCKILY THE CHILDREN AND TEACHERS AT THE SCHOOL WERE HEALTHY AND SAFE.
