Charity History
The Faraway Children’s Charity has been a registered charity (Number 1137170) since July 2010 and is established to: meet the diverse needs of disadvantaged, vulnerable or at risk children and young people within Northamptonshire and the surrounding areas.
The charity is named after one of Enid Blyton’s children’s books: ‘The Faraway Tree’ which tells the story of a group of children who discover a magical tree and its residents where they play safely and happily.
The need for the charity was initially identified in 2009 by a group of Northamptonshire professionals. It became evident within their working practice that a large number of local children and young people did not have access to basic necessities including food, clothing, hygiene and health resources as well as fundamental nurturing and guidance from their parent/s or carers. Funding was sought to support the development of the concept and a start-up grant was provided by Northamptonshire County Council.
Since then the Charity has gone from strength to strength, helping more vulnerable children each year.
Key Impacts Include;
-
Improved health, hygiene, wellbeing, opportunities and positive activities
-
Increased smiles

-
Maximise ‘no cost’ resources received

2020-21 Achievements
1250 Christmas Presents
1250 Christmas presents, gifts and resources valued at over £11,000 were distributed predominantly to children in care and care leavers. The decision to collect funds alongside Mother Christmas, The Evening Telegraph and The Chronicle & Echo, was due to the restrictions of the Covid-19 lockdown. The appeal was a great success and we will repeat in 2021.
1000 Easter Eggs
We worked alongside the Northamptonshire Easter Egg Challenge to collect Easter Eggs which were distributed to disadvantaged children across Northamptonshire.
64,845 FREE Resources Distributed since 2010!
We have supported a large number of disadvantaged individuals and families with resources within the year including providing: 1000 food items; 1436 clothing items; 4500 toiletry items; grants, parties and trips.
Thank You for your Support, Time & Donations
