This charity also acts as an umbrella body, with representatives appointed from its associated bodies throughout the UK. All these associated bodies are themselves associations of Jain and/or Vaishnav Vanik community, with aims and objects that are like ours. Council is made up of the representatives nominated by the associated bodies. Executive committee members are elected by the council.

To advance the Jain and Vaishnav faiths

To advance the arts, culture, and heritage of the Vanik community To provide funds, goods and services to relieve sickness and financial hardship To advance education 



Trustees follow the guidance on public benefit issued by the Charity commission to set the Charity’s objectives and plan its activities accordingly. 

## **Living Kidney Donation project** 

The Living Kidney Donation project that started last year continued till June this year and a new project for Living Donation was initiated in April. 

Promotion of Living Kidney Donation within the Jain and Hindu communities in the UK was carried out in various ways such as 

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)** 

- in-person gathering at Manchester, 

- during various gatherings of the community, 

- within the patients visiting three GP surgeries in NW London 

- launching of Peer Support scheme for Kidney patients in Manchester area who are waiting for a living kidney donation, 

- creating new promotional material and distributing the same within the community. 

The activity has been supported by the funding from NHSBT 

## **Befriending support to lonely and sick:** 

The aim of this project is to provide social contact to lonely adults within our community; spiritual and religious care to sick people and give support to and signpost mentally ill people to the appropriate agencies to provide safeguarding assistance. This activity benefits both the Jain and Hindu communities, men, and women, young as well as elderly. 

Lonely adults are given friendly support by our eight volunteers. 

## **Youth gathering:** 

There had been two gatherings this year of the youth from Jain and Hindu communities These were held in April and November 

,

- **during the year** • 9000 people noticed our display material during various gatherings 

      - Attendees at in-person gathering were given more information through Question-and-Answer session. 

      - Some came forward to mention that they will consider donating their kidney. 

   - Befriending: 

      - Our volunteers are trained to support lonely adults and sick members of the community. 

      - Eight volunteers are registered for DBS. 

      - 6 elderly people are registered for the service 

      - promoted our service through GP surgeries. 

Youth gathering: 

- 400 youth attended, made new friends

The charity aims to maintain its free reserves to around £150,000; this level is reviewed annually This is considered sufficient to protect the ongoing work programme and allows time for re-organisation in the event of a major downturn affecting the future income stream. Currently unrestricted free reserves amount to £54,202 and restricted funds to £121,285.
