The Parochial Church Council IPCCI pr8sgnts its annual report and financial statements for th8 year ended 31
DecErnber 2023.
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance wtth the Church (Aeeounts and Reports) Regul8llons
2008. the Charities Act 2011. and Ihe Statement ol Recommended Practice by Charilies SORP IFRS1021, as well
as The PCC (Powers) Measure 1956, Tha ChLJrch R&presentalion Rubs, and Ihe Church Aeetrunting Regulations
Objtetives and activities
The objectives ol the PCC are defined by the Parothial Church Council (Powers) Measure 1956 as 'lo co-operate
with th8 minister in pronM)ting In (he parish the whole mission of Ihe Church, pastoral. evangèlistic, social and
ecurnenical. The PCC is committed to enabling as many people as possible lo worship at our churches and lo
become part of the Parish ¢ommunty. The PCC regularly revlews the worship Ihroughout Ihe Parish and considers
hw Se￿CeS can invofve the many group5 that liv8 Wlthin tha Parish.
When planning our activities for the year, the incumbent and the PCC have c£JnsideTed the Charity Commission'8
guidance on public benelit and, in particular. the specifie guidance on charities lor the advan¢em¢nt of religion.

special needs groups organlsed by the PCC and through the distribution of the Parish mag8zlng and
through the website..
the supporl of other charities involved in Chrfstian outreach and development.

making Changes aimed at growing congregations and improving accessibility for farnilies with childr8n. For further

The fesuK lor the year has been an overall nel incoming ol resources of £4,60412022' n8t outgoing resour¢es of
£49,935) before revaluats'on of investments. There was a surplus of £13,922 on Ihe general fund. 12022.. defifyl
£50,162}, and a d&ficAt on the reslricle(I funds of £6,82912022.. defi¢il £3,735).
We have seen our voluntary income increase this year by 19.9% 10 £77,868 12022.. £64,955) largely helpad by a
kind one off donation of £I0,(K)O and also the wntinu8d increase in the card r88d8r donations.
The Trustees are also grat8ful for tha grants provided by Hurfey Church Estates and for thèir continued support to
help reduca the Parish burden for m8inlaining St Mary's.
The Truste98 8ffj continuing to take action with exisling givers to increase regular giving aligned to the currenl cost
of living, and to enctsurage a change to Just Giving,. and ways to give have been rngde more visible on P8ri3h nob'ce
boards. The Trustees intend to extend this Giving initiativg during 2024 to the wider community.
from Church activities, excluding the insurance claim of £25,092. has increasgd by 30% mainly due to an
increase in income from wedding$ and funefals. We are hopeful thi5 wll ¢onlinue to Incrèase in the following year.
I1￿luded wthin church aCt￿lties, as detailed in note 3, is an Insumnce claim of £25.092 received for the works
undertaken at the Sottau Centre due to thè damage lo the Kitchen and Ttsilat area.
Thé largest Sndividual cost continued to be the Church running costs which tolalled £51,108, a decrease of 9.9%
comparèd to the prior year. Stgps conlinue lo bè taken by Ihe Trustees tts redu￿ ihese costs, for example, smart
readers being installed in all churches 8nd a move to LED lighting to hélp reduce the electricity eosts. The Parish
Sh8r8 was also a signifKant cost whSch lolalled £43.171 12022.. £73,843). A decision wa5 rn8d8 by the Truslees,
supported and confirmed by the Deanery, rK)I to pay the lull amounl lor Ihe year ended 31 Dècèmber 2Q23 10
ensure that the Parish had sufficlent funds lo pay thair costs as and when they fell due. This has proved lo be a
sensible decision a$ if we had paid the full amount, our unrestricted reserves woukj be in defial. As a result of this
decisitsn, the Un￿$1￿Cted reserves. at 31 December 2023. are r￿W In a surplus p05ititsn of £11.413 compared lo a
deficit P05ilion in the prior year of £2,509.
We are thankful lo the petsple that have supported otjr Parish through Ih8ir gengrosity dufing such difficult limes.
Despite e￿￿enCe that innatlon rates are decreasing, we continue to take a cautious view. The PCC continue to lake
steps lo he* mitigate this impact and they continue lo closely monitor the cashflow posit*)n of the Parlsh. We are
very grateful for the support of the people within our Parish who ar& vitally important lo tha seMce5 we offer to the
oomnwnity.

The financial statemen15 havtr been prepared in accordancè with the Church IAccounts and Reports)
Re9ulab"ons 2008, the Charities A¢1 2011, and the Slaternent of Rewrnrnended Practice by Charities SORP
{FRS1021, 85 well as The PCC (Powers) M9asure 1956, The Church Representation Rules, and thè Church
Accounting Regulation$ 20C*.
Although the lolal incorne of the PCC is below £250.0(XJ, the PCC has decid8d to pr8s8nt accounts on Ihe
accwals basis.
The ftnancial statements are prepared In sterling, which is the fUn￿or￿1 currgn¢y i)f tha Parish. Monetary
amounts in these financial stslements are rounded lo the nearest £.
The finand81 statements have been pr&pared under the historical cost convention, modified lo include
inve51rnents at lair value. The principal accounting poliues adopted a￿ set oul below.

Al the lirne of approvin9 lh& financial statements. the PCC have a reasonabl8 eXPaCtation that the Parish has
adequate resourcgs to continuè in operational existence lor the foreseeable future. This is on th8 followng

1.3 Charitable funds
Unr85tricted funds are availablè for use at the discretion of the Ifustees the general objectives of the
Church.
DgW9nat8d funds are unrestricted funds that have been set aslde by the PCC for 8 particular purposo.
Restricted funds are subject lo specific condition5 by donors as lo how théy may be used. The cost of raising
