Activity WISH– World Innovation Summit for Health WISH 2024 – Humanising Health: Conflict, Equity and Resilience. Supporting the influencing policy at a local, national and international level reports were published in the 2024 summit - on several areas relevant to health security including: • Protecting health in armed conflict • Innovative solution for elimination of TB amongst refugees and migrants • Tackling AMR – how to keep our antibiotics working. |
Health Security Tackling Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Building on the work in 2023 we have been involved in progressing the work focused on addressing the challenge of AMR – the Fleming Initiative. Supporting partner organisations Imperial College and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in their endeavour to structure and launch a novel programme of work. To effectively tackle antimicrobial resistance, global awareness and behaviour change is needed alongside scientific advances. Building on the historical legacy of Fleming’s discovery of Penicillin in UK, the aim of The Fleming Initiative is to put society at the heart of solving this problem. Activity during the year was centred around: • Targeted programme of work to support fund raising activity supported by a experts. • Development of dossiers and content to to support fundraising and wider awareness raising for the initiative • Identifying partners and supporters and fundraising effort • Working with specialists in philanthropy and other experts from industry and health sector. • Developing international partnerships The Fleming Initiative will be a global effort with an inaugural centre in London, where Fleming’s discovery happened in 1928. In July 2023, HRH The Prince of Wales became the Patron of the Fleming Initiative. Supporting Health Education in Ukraine Funding was given to support the delivery of remote learning for healthcare students and clinicians in Ukraine and the delivery of healthcare in extremely challenging circumstances. Medical Examination equipment and equipment to help enable remote monitoring and consultations were procured.
