The directors have referred to the guidance from the Charities Commission about public benefit when reviewing
th¢ir aims and objectives and in planning futl￿e activities. In particular th¢ d1￿CtOrS consider how planned
activities will contribute to the aims and objCctiv￿ that they have set.

Serics of 5 meetingslworkshop sessions with Jonathan Ball who for 25 yeaTq has helpd Sha￿ and deliver design
thinking led innovation programm¢s. The Creative Step is a practical programme deSi￿ed to help shape your
business for the future. Through this series of meetings and workshops we explor¢d how The Creative Step
could help with organisational planning at Bluecoat Display Centre. Enabl￿ the Bluecoat Display Centre
Director an opportunity to step back from day-to4ay activities in a safe and supportive sp￿¢ to reflect, review
and refresh our business. This resulted in a prOj￿t bticf to r¢design our website, enhancing our online presenc
and e-commerce capabilities. Funding would be required to realise the redevelopment of the website.

5th April- 7th June- Heys Court Outreach Project
A new series of craft workshops with new partners Heys Court in Garston, a long stay rehabilitation ward for
older adults with a variety of mental health issu¢5. From a mental health perspective, their service users have
diagnosis including anxiety, depression. bipolar, schizophreni4 but not exclusive to these illnesses only.
Funding enabled 2 x North West based makers to each run 8 x 2-hour workshop sessions. Ceramic artist Kirsti
Hannah Brown, workshops included making pinch pots, ¢011 pots, figures and botani￿1 textured slab pots. Some
of the activities will include using coloured slips to add decoration. Textile artist Nawal Gebre¢l's workshops
included block-printing, landscapes with watercolours.
8th April Liverpool Hope Unfverslty Talk
Delivered to Fine Art and Art History final years students on approaching a gallery, preparation of, showin8 and
promoting your work.

materials and the innovative making and dcsign qualities.
Maria is a mixed media contemporary jeweller. passionate about sustsinability and OUT relationship with
the environment. By using mat¢rials that go Unnotice￿ or go to waste, she seeks to create pieces that are
both beautiful and responsible.

Fmm June 2024 - May 2025 - Clatterbridge Cancer Centre (CCC) maker r¢sidency ¢ommission
We were re-commissioned by the CCC Trust F¢¢ for 2 makers to each run 42 workshop activity sessions (I day
per week) with patients, and thcir farnilies, undergoing cancer treatment at the CCC in LiveTpooI city centr¢.
Me￿¢Y$ld¢ makers Karen Edwards and Jo Williams were ￿ntracted to deliver the sessions as well as each
completing self-led resource / activity sheet for CCC Patient Art Packs.
Objectives of the Programme:
- To improve mood, ￿dUce waiting time anxiety and inpatient monotony for patients
- To improve patient physical and mental health with incrused support for slaff and family
memba3 to enable positive intsrnction and activity
- To enable the development of creativity, imagination and seIf*Xpr￿10n, increasing
positive energy, relaxation and rcducing fatigue
- Develop artists (makers) skills and experience in Arts in Health delivery
- Develop and r¢fin¢ a partnership model for use in future activity

For our 2023 Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair Showcase Award we wer¢ d¢lightsd to feature the work
of jeweller L¢oma Drew alongside ceramicist Vallari Harshwal. Leoma's jewellery practice explores memory
and nostalgi4 leading her to abstract ernotional journeys through creating motlfi, which became a cryptic
symbology to depict personal events within her life. Vallari is drawn towards the unexplored aspect of clay and
its prottsses and leans toward being nonconforniist in her VISU￿ aestheti¢s. Vallari'5 work i5 an essence of her
Indian heritsge, juxtap)sed with her life in England.

Arfs activity for the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre with Teenage and Young Adult patients Summer Fest with
local artist Charlie Weatherstone with the Teenage Cancer Trust Youth Supp)rt Co-ordinator. The Summer Fest
ev¢nt was for young people aged 13-24 their families and friends to come along, have a bit of fun, meet other
young people and farnili¢s and some speak to some services that can support them whilst they are undergoing
their cancer trealment. There was also some music and oiher activities on the day.
In the Window for Pride 2024 - Slmon Dredge
July 2024
Our In the Window Installation for Pride in Liverpool showcase th¢ work of10¢81 Ceramic artist Simon Dredge,
as part of th¢ ¢el¢brations for Liv¢rpool Pride. Simon's plates are made in both porcelain and archit¢dural clays,
he uses ceramic body stains, underglaze, acrylic inks, acrylic paints and spray paints on his work.
Liverpool based Simon Dredge is an English ceramic artist whose work explores the impact of history in shaping
our cultural understanding. For the Pride window Simon wanted to c¢lebrat¢ the divcr5ity of thc gay and qU￿r
community in Liverpool and the wider Merseyside atra.
Bluecoat Display Centre was awarded funding by the Ulrike Michal Foundation for the Arts to cnable this
window installation.

We presented this two man show- which featured work by established ceramic artists Dan Kelly and
Barry Slcdman - both of whom showed work here in Liveryool for the first time.
an and Barry both treat the surfaces of their clay vessels like an incredible canvas. They have a sense of energy
and drama to the application of the 'drawing on clay, which is echoed in the painting5 that both produce, and
which will also feature in our ¢xhibition. ]nspir¢d by the lands￿pe of his nwal 5urn)undings> Barry's pieces are
bursting with beautiful vivid colours. In contrast, city-based Dan uses no colour, and his striking work is full of
actlon.

furniture and sculpture. His current body of work centres around the death of the Ash tree. We as our hedgerow

New Year.
Jacob ha8 developed 8 new body of work specially for this window installation entitled 'Zodia¢'
'Th¢ 12 Chinese zodiac animals hold deep symboli¢ significance, representing various aspects of personality,
life, and the na￿ra1 world. Each animal embodies unique traits and energies, reflecting cycles of traTJsforniation,
growth, and wisdom. For me, these animals are not only a part of cultural heritage but also w)werful symbols
that re50nate with my own journey and experiences.
Bluecoat Display Centre were awarded fijnding by the Ulrike Mi¢hal Foundation for the Arts to enable
this window installation.

R¢s¢rves policy
In accordance with the Statement of Recommended Pra¢ti¢¢ A￿oUnting by Charities, the directors are required
to evidence in theiT reFX)rt that the charity has in place certain FK)lici¢s. These policics, agreed and forn]ally
adopted by the dtrectors are &8 follows,.
It is the p)li¢y of the charity to hold free reserves at a level which will provide &8SiStance for future years,
operations. At 31 March 2025 unrestricted free reserves were in an overdrawn position of £8223 (£19216
overdrawn at 31 March 2024). As noted in the future plans summary> the economic climate is challenging but
th¢ trustces and staff at the centre are working hard to increase revenue streams to rneet future obligations and
build reserves.
The charity'8 wholly owned subsidiary company Bluecoat Display Centre (Trading) Limited made a profit of

FUTURE PLANS
In the early part of the 2024125 financial year the Blu￿0a1 Display Centre Director proaclively arranged
meetings with funding IK)dies including our landlords the Bluecoat Arts Council, Liverpool City Councillors and
Culture officers to access support which might k available to our charity. Generally. we were advised that many
small arts organisations and charities were Struggling.
In July 2024 one member of staff took voluntsry redundancy, and we focused on increasing sales in person and
online to support the charity. Then in November another member of the team decided to take another job, we
decided to manage with the Director and Assistsnt Director plus support from casual ￿aff to keep our
expenditure down.
At the end of the year, we put out a fundraising appeal to our Core audience and Friends supporters which
together with Christmas tjading and reduced staffing costs gave us some reserv¢s thTough thc final quart¢r of
2025. We introduced two new Directors to the Board with WmMe￿ial business expertlse to advise on raising
revenue, marketing and promotion.
We plan to continue to focus on raising our income through sales of maker's work and have wntinued to
prograrnme curated displays in the gallery as well as f¢aiur¢d makers online. Our new Meet the Maker
programme on Saturday afternoons has giv¢n our visitors and ￿gular audience the opportunity to interact
directly and learn mor¢ about the work we feature and the techniques involved.
Our community partners, Clatterbridge Cancer Centre (CCC) have re-cornmissioned us to facilitate the 2 x
makers in residence for the third year towards thcir arts progrnmme with patients, their families and staff.
Bluecoat Display Centrc fulfil th¢ arts activity offer at CCC ￿ongSide much larger arts otEanisations including
the Royal Philharnionic Orchestra and FAcf Liverpool.
We are making funding applications which, if successful, would support new community partnerships and
projects &s well &s enabling a dedicated member of part-time staff to focus on this new work.
Th¢ Team and Directors continue to work hard to secure the futur¢ for the Charity, and this work does seem to
have resulted in 8Te&ter economic stability,

BASIS OF PREPARING THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS
The financi￿ statements of th¢ Ch￿ilable company) which is a public Exnefit entity under FRS 102, hav¢
been pr¢paTed in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities:
Statement of Recommended Practice appli¢abl¢ to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with
the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective I
January 2019),, Financial R¢porting Standard 102 The Financial Reporting Stsndard applicable in the UK
and Republic of Ireland, and the Companies Act 2006. The financial statements have been prepared under
the historical cost Conventio￿ with thc cxception of investments which are included at market value.
The company has been operaling since incorporation on 20 March 1996. as a ¢ompany limited by
guarantee. On 7 June 2010, the company's Memor8ndum and Articles of Association were amended by
resolution, and the company was ￿8]Stered &% a charity with the Charity Commission.
COING CONCERN
The accounts have been prepared on a going concern basis. The charity a net &ssets Posltion at the
Balance Sheet date, but unrestri¢ted funds are overdrawn by £8,223 at thc ycar end. Whilst income
generated in the year has been sufficient to meet the outgoing rent, wages and other Core running costs in
the year, it hasn't been sufficient lo fully clear the overdrawn unrestricted balance brought forward at I
April 2024, The economic climate is challenging but thc trustees and staff at the centre are working hard
to increase revenue streams to meet futur¢ obligatiOTJS and build reserves. Wages and renl remain the
biggest challenge in temis of core costs. Staff numbe￿ have now been reduced to the absolute minimum
and negotiations are ongoing with the landlord in advance of the lease renewal.
PREPARATIO]Y OF CONSOLIDATED FINANCIAL STATEMENTS
The financial statements contsin infornialion about Bluexoat Display Centre Limited as an individual
company and do not Contain consolidated financial infomiation as the par¢nt of a group. The charity is
exempt under Section 399(2A) of the Companies Act 2006 from th¢ rcquir¢m¢nts to prepare consolidated
financial statements.
Th¢ charity h&s also claimed exemption from preparing a cash flow statement as it qualifies as a small
company.
CRITICAL ACCOUNTING JUDGEMENTS AND KEY SOURCES OF ESTIMATION

Estimates and judgements continually evaluated and are based on historical experience and other

14. LEASING ACREEMENTS
A licence to occupy the C￿ent premises was signed in December 2020 with a commencement date of I
October 2020. A minimum of l year must elapse before the charity can give notice, On ternlinati0￿ of
the licence, a minimum notice period of three months must be given.
The licence was extended frorn September 2025 to June 2026 at a rate of £3,601 per month.

17. RELATED PARTY DISCLOSURES
cr￿ltorS include an intercompany loan balance of £7,563 (2024: £36,536) being the amount due to the
subsidiary company* Bluecoat Display Centre (Trading) Limited at the year end. This is afier a gift aid
donation from the trading subsidiary of £33,580 (2024; £23,124)
Bluecoat Display Centre (Trading) Limited paid £47,941 {2024: £44,360) to the parent chwitsble
company in respect of rental payments for use of the premises leased by the charitable company and
charged £5,000 (2024:£ 6,045) to the parent charilable company in respect of running costs.
A Whittaker is a trustee of the charity. He was ap￿llnt¢d a director of Bluecoat Display Centre (Trading)
Limited on 23 March 2018.
