We provide meals, showers and clothes, befriending & referrals into statutory and community-based services. We provide activities to improve the health and wellbeing of elders in the local community, including bingo, a two-course meal and chair-based exercises. A significant number of our service users have an Irish background, but all are welcome. ## **Our organisation** The charity had the following 6 trustees in the year 2024/2025: - Margaret Harvey - chair - Rev Allan Alvarado - Stuart Garner - Allison Havey - Jennifer Rossiter - René van Velzen - treasurer Richard Mallon has been leading the activities in his role as Welfare Coordinator. SanKTus had the help of approximate 45 volunteers to support all the activities. We depend on volunteers to help us organise our food, shower and clothing services and to take time to engage in conversation with our guests. ## **Our activities and achievements in this period** ## **The Welfare Project** The Welfare Project continues to provide essential support to individuals experiencing significant hardship within the local community. Many service users face multiple and complex challenges, including poverty, housing insecurity or homelessness, physical and mental health difficulties, substance misuse, and social isolation. SanKTus seeks to improve financial stability, reduce the impact of poverty and loneliness, and facilitate access to key community and statutory services. **Page** 1 **of 5** Charity Number: 1136596 Website: www.sanktus.org Email: sanktus.welfare@gmail.com Address: Parish Hall 44A Falkland Road London NW5 2XA ## **Trustees’ Annual Report for the year ending 30 June 2025** The Welfare Project provides a welcoming and supportive environment through a range of weekly activities and essential services. ## **Tuesday Club** A social gathering for over-55s offering refreshments, bingo, and a nutritious twocourse meal in a warm and friendly space. In the afternoon, members can participate in a chair-based exercise class to promote mobility and well-being. A significant number of members are from an Irish background, many of whom experience social isolation and live alone. The club offers an important opportunity for social engagement, helping to build a sense of community while supporting both physical and mental well-being. There are 25 members who attend bingo and lunch and on average 14 people who attend the chair-based exercise class. Over time, the Tuesday Club has developed into a caring and close-knit network, ensuring that members who unexpectedly miss a session are checked on. Throughout the day, the Welfare Coordinator is also available to offer advice and support. ## **Wednesday** On Wednesday afternoon, on average 33 people attend to receive sandwiches and refreshments, engaging in conversation with volunteers and staff while also listening to music. During these sessions, we distribute clothing and toiletries. We are very fortunate to receive winter coats each year from Wrap Up London. This year we received 65 coats, all of which were distributed to service users at both the Wednesday and Sunday services. ## **Sunday** Sunday remains our busiest day, with an average of 67 individuals dining indoors for a hot meal and takeaway food available. There is the opportunity to take a hot shower, and toiletries are available with on average 8 people showering each Sunday. Support included assistance with Universal Credit claims, referrals to emergency accommodation, and connecting people with alcohol and drug dependency into treatment services. Our ongoing partnership with Caritas (Diocese of Westminster) enables us to assist individuals facing financial hardship by providing supermarket food vouchers. Additionally, the Welfare Project distributes non-perishable food whenever supplies are available and continues to support those experiencing food insecurity with foodbank vouchers. Over the past year, at least 178 individuals have accessed one or more of these vital services. ## **Funding and support** Both the Welfare Project and the Tuesday Club receive invaluable funding from the Government of Ireland Emigrant Support Programme, Veritas Investment, and Awards for All. We deeply appreciate this generous support. Additionally, heartfelt thanks go to the Aeolian Sinfonia, who organize several fundraising concerts throughout the year, and to Gail’s Bakery, who kindly donate bread and cakes twice a week. Their ongoing contributions play a crucial role in the success of the project. SanKTus is supported throughout the year by a variety of organizations, including Wrap Up London, Caritas, Gails bakery, the SVP, and the local community centre. We would like to extend special thanks to all the volunteers who generously give their time and energy. This year the receipts were again higher than the outgoing payments resulting in an increase of our bank account balance by £10,668 at the end of the year. At the same time the balance of our unrestricted funds was reduced by £1,991 at the end of the year. SanKTus aims to have a reserve of approximate 20% of annual payments at the end of the financial year. This is recognised as a major funding risk. The main expense for SanKTus is the salary payments to the co-ordinator. It is a role crucial to the good running of the services. Without the grants of the major donors, it would not be possible to have a co-ordinator.
