Douai Park Recreation Association

Trustee Statement

Year 2020 -2021

During this third year The Trustees have overseen the running of Douai Park Recreation Association during the Covid crisis struck and many activities were restricted or ceased. In these difficult times, whatever activities that were allowed did take place and a marquee was erected for the summer months. This outside space did enable the Association to have some sport and community events. The Pavilion had restricted use and all recommended actions were implemented throughout the Pavilion and Park.

During the lockdown period the community was encouraged to use the outside space for their exercise.

The two schools who usually use the Park, had limited use because there were times when the schools were shut but when open, the usual activities took place if allowed.

Football matches took place when allowed with Thatcham Tornadoes playing all the ages when possible. Woolhampton FC played a few games as did the Beenham Dads.

Three cricket teams Woolhampton, Theale & Tilehurst and Badgers played cricket when possible within the restrictions using the marquee for changing. Junior cricket was introduced for the first time with Berkshire Cricket coaching two groups on Friday evenings.

The Douai Tennis Club continued when allowed.

Many of the regular indoor activities were curtailed but some community activities took place in the marquee and take away food was made available.

Fortunately, grants were obtained from West Berkshire Council, to alleviate the huge loss from revenue

The Trustees would like to thank everyone who have worked tirelessly through this very difficult period of time to ensure that DPRA continued to offer sport and community activities.
