Good evening and thank you for coming along to the Appleton Wiske Pre SchoolAGM.

For those who attended last year’s AGM and have an exceedingly good memory please accept my apologies as this report closely resembles last years report!

I think it has been a great year for pre-school. As we know it has been a struggle in the wake of the pandemic as pre-school was hit hard financially, but in my two years as chair the hard work by the staff, committee and parents has been fantastic.

The number of children attending pre-school seems to be staying strong which in the past has been a worry as children make the transition to school, long may it last.

I would like to thank Colin who as a friend I feel felt obliged to help me last year following the resignation of the previous treasurer. I mentioned the struggles in last years report in trying to change the people on the account and get Colin authorised, needless to say this took several months after the AGM to achieve this so a special thank you to the previous named people for your assistance in achieving this and also to Annie who continued to make the payments on preschool’s behalf.

As we know the treasurer’s role is quite a task taking up a lot of time. Colin kindly stepped in to assist but does not have the time to continue. Looking at the number of different treasurers over the last few years a decision was made to employ Susan to undertake the role to give it the time and attention it requires. We have successfully got Susan on the bank, and she has been working along side Colin the past few months implementing new systems, taking over the invoicing, payrole etc..

The year saw all the usual fundraisers including the on-going success of lotto bingo, the easter and Christmas squares, the recently undertaken sponsored bike ride, Christmas fayre, the big fund raiser of the year our bonfire and a coffee morning which was a new event during my time on the committee. I would like to thank and wish Aisha good luck! Aisha is taking on a tough mudder to raise money for pre-school to which we are hugely grateful and encourage everyone to sponsor her where possible.

We have been fortunate enough to be offered additional land adjoining the play area curtesy of Mr & Mrs Elsden. Not only did they offer the land but have also prepared the area ready for us to erect the new boundary fence and prepare the ground for grass.

Due to the ratio’s it became evident that there was a severe lack of time to undertake the essential administration work that goes hand in hand with the running of a pre-school. The decision was made to advertise for an additional member of staff. Here we welcomed Sarah who joined the team along side Liz, Dawn and Lizzy.

It was an honour to be in the chair at the time of celebrating Dawns 25 years of service. The occasion was marked by a presentation of past and present parents, staff, primary school teachers and most importantly the children. I believe the tears shed by dawn were happy ones.

Congratulations to Lizzy or auntie Lizzy in the eyes of many children! This year saw Lizzy qualify gaining a level 3 in early years, passing with distinction! Lizzy has taken on the role as deputy and Senco to which I’m sure she will excel in.

Liz has continued to lead the team with commitment and compassion as always going above and beyond to ensure the smooth running and success of the preschool. To all the team a great big thank you!

I am very proud to say that all three of my children attended Appleton Wiske Pre School and am sad to see their time here come to an end. The pre-school is a safe nurturing place for children to develop and have so much fun doing so.

I have been on the committee a number of years and spent two years as chair. I would thank the committee for the work and support they put into the pre-school and wish pre-school success for many more years to come!
