FI.NANCIAL REVIEW
Review of the )'ear
The Jear ￿11] be remembered as the one in which our founder and principle trustee, Ray Edwards. passed away. A new
tNslee was appointed and M'e, collectivel),, remain full). conimitted io continuing Ihe work. of ihe charilfv. and ensuring its
aims are maintained.
Limbcare came through the Covid pandemic, but 2023 1 2024 was slill a year of recovery, both in tem)$ of raising
finance (the cost of living crisis) and also in being able to provide the necessary. supwrt to amputees, given thal the
hospitals and rehabilitation centres were unable lo alloM fhe access th2t had been available lo Limbcare pre-coK'id. We
understand that ampulation numbers have increased greatly 5in¢e Covid, and whilsi we have offered a reaetii'e service to
those that contact us, our primary aim for the next year is for Limbcarc lo be part of the rehabilitation process. This
entails working clo%ly with consultants, prostheÉist5, technicians, physios, and occupational therapists in the local
hospitals, and meeling Ihe amputees who are recovering under their care.
Our SUp￿rt line remains very busy with calls from ampuitts and limb-impaired, EK)th from those recenily imp3cl¢d and
people who hav¢ had issues for many years. Whilst every caller is unique, the trustees and volunteers are able to cite
their own experiences i¥hen discussing (for example) mobility issues, socket discomfort and financial support that could
be available. The Limbcare team are keenl>' aivare Ihal offering reassurance and empathy is essential wheft talking to
amputees aEK)ut the trauma of losing a limb.
Whilst we had to close our Shopmobility outlei during Covid, we have coniinued to reeeive many offers of unwanted
equipmenl such as wheelchairs, cruiches, mobilit), aids, mobility scooters and electric p0￿er chairs from across the
country. Our collaboration with the Ukrdine Relief charity has enabled Limbcare to handover vanloads of equipment
which are then disiribuled to Ihose in desperate need in Uk'rnine. Hom'ever, where we receive equipment of high value, in
good condition, we prefer to either donate it lo a UK amputee or limb-impaired, or sell il lo raise funds. We h3ve been
reslricted io a certain extent in the collection of large chairs 15COOters by our laek of suitable transwrt a deficiency that
Limbcare aims to resolve in ihe next year. given ihe success of our recycling policy.
Limbcare has successfully reduced its overheads. and we remain extrcmcly gratcful to the Wilky Group for the provision
of our offices in Westmead House, lo Blue Box for storage and to our accountants. Fuller Spurling, for their continued
support and their work on the Limbcare accounts. Financially. this support has helped the charity to end the year in a
better financial state than it was at the start of the year.
We also owe a huge debt of grdlityde to our staff and volunteer team, who have given up their time and conlributed to
our achievemenls this year. Wilh the problems of recenl years hopefully behind us, l and my fellow tNstees are
optimisiic ihai with the support of our volunteers, Limbcare can roniinu¢ (and build on) its greai work.
FUTURE PLANS
Whilst Limbcares main aims are unchanged. the charity will need to adapl to a life withoul its founder and the 'face of
Limbcare,.
- ￿le plan to buy a van io assist / increase ihe colle￿10n and delivery of donaied equipment and items for recycling.
To continue to build the profile of ihe charity. enabling it lo reach the widest audience possible.
To re-establish some fom) of presence within local hospitals and rehabilitation centres. For distant centres, to provide
infom)ation thal contains contact details, should patients wish to benefit from our services.
. To arrange publishing and wide distribulion of Limbcare's Prickles bookl
. To increase the number of volunteers and Trustees lo facilitale more fundraising opportunities
To continue lo receive mobility equipment walking sticks, crutches, wheelchairs etc - for the benefit of the UkrJine
Relief charity.
.To continue to lobby service providers with regards to improving the quality of prosthetic services.
