ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE

Charitable activities

Ellie Gudgeon is a 24 year old Karate athlete. Commonwealth Silver Medallist 2024 and Commonwealth Bronze Medallist in 2022. Ellie is very successful and has recently won gold in the British Karate Federation Four Nations competition (50kg). Earlier this year she also achieved gold in the Senior 50kg and silver in the Senior Open Weight. Charlie's Charity has enabled Ellie to compete by helping to pay for the competition entry fees and travel.

Wilcot Cricket Club - Charlie's Charity made a donation to enable them to purchase cricket nets at the Club.

Dorian Williams - Dorian Williams is from Trowbridge ASC and local Swim England affiliated swimming club based in Trowbridge. Dorian Williams was thrilled to compete at the Down's Syndrome World Championships in Turkey. Down's Syndrome swimming does not receive any funding and as such the entire trip needs to be funded by Dorian, his family and his supporters. Dorian is going to the training camp for the British Team in Spain in May this year in preparation for the European Championships in Portugal in October and Charlie's Charity have helped towards the cost of this.

Anna Patterson - 2024 was a fantastic year for Anna. As the Triathlon season progressed Anna achieved 3 first place results having stepped up to the new longer Sprint distance. Anna was thrilled with her achievements and was pleased to see how well she managed the step up to the new distance. The final race was the British Championships (Youth B elite) where she secured 1st place in her age category and 7th overall. This result secured her as British Champion and winner of the overall Super Series. Her performance this season led to selection for England Next Generation (ENG) National Academy, this is the next step up on the performance pathway and was one of her goals this year. Charlie's Charity helped towards the cost of improving her equipment and contributing towards competition travel. Anna also competed in Dublin with the GBR Junior team. This trip was not funded by British Cycling, here Charlie's charity funding enabled this trip to happen which provided an invaluable learning experience.

Callum Smith (Wakeboarder) - Charlie's Charity helped to fund Callum to attend the European Wakeboard Championships in France this summer. Team GB came 4th overall, which was a great achievement for them and they were very proud of this. Callum will be competing in the UK Nationals and the European Championships, which are planned for Spain or Portugal.

Ben East - Ben is a member of Team Kennet and has been competing in javelin since he was 11 years old. In 2024, Ben had another good season, finishing as the UK number 1 Javelin thrower. He won a silver medal at the British Senior Championships and retained his English U23 and BUCS titles with a season's and personal best throw of 75.85m. Ben also won his first international competition at the Budapest Open. This past year, Ben has been fortunate to be able to train with arguably Britain's best ever javelin coach, John Trower, and the current F13 double Paralympic and World Champion and current world record holder, Dan Pembroke. We are pleased to be able to say John has now become Ben's lead coach. This coming season, Ben will enter all home competitions and he hopes to qualify for the European U23 championships in Bergen, Norway; he has already qualified for the European Throws Cup in Cyprus in March. Ben is aiming to throw 80m this year as he embarks on his Olympic cycle for the 2028 Olympics, to be held in Los Angeles. Ben said that many of his achievements would not have been possible without the kind and generous support of Charlie's Charity.

Arabella Sear Watkins - In 2024 Arabella competed at an international event in Milan - it was the 2026 Olympic test event and Arabella came 10th. It was her first senior event competing with the world's top skaters including world champion Kaori Sakamoto from Japan, along with many world championships skaters. She will also have another international in Norway in March where she hopes to gain the technical score to qualify for the European Championships. Arabella said "We are so very grateful to you and Charlie's charity for giving me the financial support which has allowed me to travel, train and compete internationally for Great Britain. We are forever thankful to you for this."

In addition we donated £250 to George Gale , a talented rugby player from Hungerford who was looking for support to help him to continue to train at the highest level.

Notes to the Financial Statements for the Year Ended 31 January 2025

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES

Basis of preparing the financial statements

The financial statements of the charity, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)', Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Charities Act 2011. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.

The financial statements have been prepared to give a 'true and fair' view and have departed from the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 only to the extent required to provide a 'true and fair view'. This departure has involved following the Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) issued on 16 July 2014 rather than the Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice effective from 1 April 2005 which has since been withdrawn.

The financial statements are prepared on a going concern basis, under the historical cost convention, modified to include certain items at fair value. The financial statements are prepared in sterling which is the functional currency of the charity and rounded to the nearest pound.

There are no significant areas of judgements or key sources of estimation uncertainty.

The trustees consider that there are no material uncertainties about the Charity's ability to continue as a going concern.

The charity is an unincorporated trust constituted by a trust deed.

Income

All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.

Interest on funds held on deposit is included when receivable and the amount can be measured reliably by the charity; this is normally upon notification of the interest paid or payable by the bank.

Expenditure

Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.

Grants offered subject to conditions which have not been met at the year end date are noted as a commitment but not accrued as expenditure.

Stocks

Stocks are valued at the lower of cost and net realisable value, after making due allowance for obsolete and slow moving items.

Taxation

The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities.

Fund accounting

Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.

Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.

Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund is included in the notes to the financial statements.

Debtors

Other debtors are recognised at the settlement amount due.

Cash at bank and in hand

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES - continued

Debtors

Cash at bank and cash in hand includes cash and short term highly liquid investments with a short maturity of three months or less from the date of acquisition or opening of the deposit or similar account.

Creditors and provisions

Creditors and provisions are recognised where the charity has a present obligation resulting from a past event that will probably result in the transfer of funds to a third party and the amount due to settle the obligation can be measured or estimated reliably. Creditors and provisions are normally recognised at their settlement amount after allowing for any trade discounts due.

Financial instruments

The charity only has financial assets and financial liabilities of a kind that qualify as basic financial instruments. Basic financial instruments are initially recognised at transaction value and subsequently measured at their settlement value.
