STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

ASSOCIATION OF AFGHAN UNITED IN BRITAIN is a (not-for-profit) company limited by guarantee governed by its Memorandum and Articles of Association. The company was incorporated on 23 April 2010.

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

The objectives of the organisation, as set out in its governing document are:

(1)

To advance the religion of Islam, by means of, but not exclusively, promoting the teachings and tenets of Islam and provision of facilities for Islamic education;

(2)

To advance the education of the public, in particular, but not exclusively, by the provision of language and citizenship classes;

(3)

To relieve financial hardship among poor people, victims of natural and man-made disasters and other people in need, by means of, but not exclusively, making grants for providing or paying for items, equipment, services and facilities, including the provision of advice, food, water, clothing and accommodation for the said persons;

(4)

To promote any other charitable purpose for the benefit of the general public that the trustees from time to time may determine.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PUBLIC BENEFIT

ASSOCIATION OF AFGHAN UNITED IN BRITAIN has this year provided religious functions for the community. Prayer and community meetings were held at the charity premises. This has helped the community to meet their religious obligations and to benefit them spiritually.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

ASSOCIATION OF AFGHAN UNITED IN BRITAIN has been successful in attracting donations from the public in meetings its needs. It has raised £31,961 total income for the period including donations through regular giving and one-off donations. It had an expenditure of £16,656 (mainly Mortgage Interest, Utility, and other operational costs) which has been met by the income of the charity. Therefore, the charity had a surplus of £15,305 for the year. At the end of the period, the Directors held reserves (net of the property) of £242,469.

PLANS FOR FUTURE PERIODS

The Directors intend to continue providing services to the community of Leicester at their centre. The directors intend to develop services for children to teach them languages, especially English for those who cannot speak English.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE DIRECTORS

The Directors are responsible for preparing the Directors Annual Report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).

Company law requires the Directors to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charitable company and of the incoming resources and application of resources, including the income and expenditure, of the charitable company for that period. In preparing these financial statements, the Directors are required to:

The Directors are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the company and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Companies Act 2006. The Directors are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the company and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

1. Accounting Policies

Basis of preparation of financial statements

The financial statements of the charitable company, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102 have been prepared in accordance with Charities SORP (FRS 102) ‘Accounting and Reporting by charities : Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standards applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) effective 1[st] January 2015’, Financial Reporting Standard 102 ‘The financial reporting standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland and Companies Act 2006. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.

Fund accounting

General funds are unrestricted funds which are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in the furtherance of the general objectives of the charity which have not been designated for any other purposes. Designated funds comprise unrestricted funds that have been set aside by the trustees for particular purposes.

Restricted funds are those which can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by a donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.

Responsibilities and As the charity’s trustees of the Company (who are also the directors of the basis of report company for the purposes of company law), you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 (“the 2006 Act”). Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the Company are not required to be audited for this year under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of your charity’s accounts as carried out under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 (“the 2011 Act”). In carrying out my examination, I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act.

Independent examiner's statement I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention which gives me cause to believe that: • accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 386 of the Companies Act 2006; or

• the accounts do not comply with relevant accounting requirements under section 396 of the Companies Act 2006 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
