The Leadership Toam consist of trustees and two staff membeis. the Senior Minister and the
Operations Manager. This year we have added the presence of Alex Sutton on a 'Joshua
Journey,. designed lo raise up new leaders. not in an official leadership capacity but present and
contributing to our discussions The Joshua Journey is limited to a two-year period.
The Leadership Team meet in two capacities. four times a year as trustees and twelve times a
year as a church leadership.
The Leadership Team provide the spiritual direction and leadership of the church and are
responsible for its vision. values and practices. The Leadership Team duiing this period were.

Our mission as a church is to play our parl in making Christ known lo all people. through a
structure of discovery. discipleship and declaration. enabling everyone lo become fully devoted
followers of Christ and helping to transform communities.

REVIEW OF ACTIVITIES
I ' April 2020 to 31" March 2021. we are very grateful lo God for leading us through this unusual
period of history and the challenges we faced in the light of Covid ig. The longer we have
been in the pandemic the more we are aware thal God is with us. has gone before us and is
meeting all our needs to accomplish the vision he has given us.
Here is some of what we achieved this year and the challenges that we met.
i. Feiiowshlp
We ran a number of well-received church events online Including a Saturday Night
Takeaway and Quiz night led by one of our youth members.
We continued to provide ongoing care and support for many through times of change.
loss and decision making.
We continued to deliver pastoral offices this year including wedding vow renewals and
funerals.
We encouraged 'Emmaus' walks - walking one on one to keep connected and
encouraging each other.
We installed an online communications tool called "Slack. and social groups have
emerged within that that keep us connected even beyond Ihe Church.
Our vision is to continue lo structure our year of fellowship to include these and new
ways to engage the church in fellowship. We look forward to a different 2021/2 where
opportunities open up and our togetherness will promote our community spirit both in
the church and in our communi11es

2. Worship
We continued to deliver our Sunday service. We have been on a steep learning curve to
adapt lo new ways ofdelivering. online and in covid safe environments
We have a stronger participation in our prayer evenings on Zoom.
Our worship teams have produced outstanding videos of songs k￿pIng us up to date
and on the pulse.
One new person to our preaching team.
We have invested in a new sound system to accommodate the chu¥ch refurbishment in
readiness for our re-opening
We continue lo provide a Messy Church online and in person (when allowed) experience
monthly
We are delivering a children's service online.
Our challenge going forward will be influenced by the return dates and people's willingness
to engage in person.
3. Mlsslon and ¢ommunlty engagement
While our mission and community engagement was challenged and many ofour regular
programs stopped running due to the pandemic it was great to see the church rise to the
occasion and cease the opportunity to serve our community
In October half term we ran a holiday club for children up to the age of eleven
In the absence of our usual Chiistmas performances in partnership with Saltmine Theatre
Company at Stourbridge Town hall. we took a lead from a filmed version of one of their
productions Hark. We delivered this online opportunity to children in four local primary
schools and we delivered 250 single bags containing this production to friends and
families in the community
We ran the nationally-acclaimed Alpha Course online. ten people booked up.
We ran a weekly bereavement group al for the community that was well attended at 30-
40 people. This stopped during the first lockdown but has run since the re-opening
providing essential support to the bereaved
We continued a mental health group every week that met for mutual support for eight to
ten people
We have eighteen people from Chawn Hill Church engaged with a local charity.
volunteering with Safe Families. many times providing love and support to families in
need.
We continued to work with other churches to deliver community projects acfOSS the
stourbridge area.
We continued to support financially and with volunleers. Replenish. the Stourbridge
distribution point for Black Country Food Bank
We continued lo support financially and with volunteers. the Stourbridge Life
Centre Debt Advice
We continued lo support financially and with volunteers Street Pastor5 on Saturday
nights to help those involved in the nighl-lime economy.
We facilitated and volunteered in a food
needs ministry during the first lockdown
getting medicine and other essentials to people In our community
We did a leaflet drop to let everyone in our neighbourhood lo say that we were
here. that wed ring and chat to lonely folks and to let us know In what ways we
could serve them. This has provided several opportunities to be of he4) for which
we are grateful.

Our vision is to irbcrease givirbg in 2021/2 to Ihose activilies due to the generous donations
of our members.
We continued our commitment to giving away/invest IO/ of our unrestricted income to
other organisations and individuals who shale our objectives.
Local. Replenish/ Btack Country Food Bank. Lookout Project. Stourbridge Life
Centre Debt Advice. Stourbridge and Street Paslors The latter having closed in
covid meant we have added it to our giving towards Ihe Black Country Food Bank
National. Saltmine Trust. Ben and Faith mission lo Gloucester.
o World Development. The Teso Development Trust's joint work in the Teso d￿StriCt of
Uganda which provides fresh water.'Bless' a mission in France among the
displaced people from middle east who gather there.
We made a donation to an emergency ministry in Uganda to an Orphanage that
was damaged in floods
Shorl-Term Service & Training" YWAM. Ugandan NGO work, Bella Bennewith in
Holiand, Lydia Orrell in YWAM
o Open Doors- a ministry to the persecuted church
o WTC - a new hub in Birmingham for theol(MJical training.
We didn't give away the full io/ this year but have added the money into this year s
mission budget. Our Near and Far group are well on the way in its re-establishment and
the ministries we give to are more closely aligned with our own missional stalemenls.
4. Disclpleship
Inspired by the Northumbria Community and the 24-7 Prayer Movement. we continued
with our rhythm of ipray. comprising Daily Office IMon-Fri. 6-7aml The challenges of
covid have meant a staggered staiting and stopping according to Government
guidelines
Our prayer day on the first Wednesday of every monlh has become a prayer meeting on
Zoom Numbers have been very encouraging.
We held a vigil from 12am - 3am in March that spoke into the life of our church.
Both the number of regular donors, 72 on average. & the amount they gave remained
stable throughout the year.
Our Home Groups have a new look are well attended. we have ten home groups ir) total.
all are open lo new comers and we continue to meet three times a year with the leaders
for development training and feedback
The Senior Minister is co-leading a Bonhoeffer course designed to help us transition as a
church into a disciple making church He has been invited to sit on the leadership of UK
Bonhoeffer.
This year in partnership with AmblE£oto Christian Centre. Chawn Hill Church has
continued to deliver a Theology night for churches throughout the 81ack Country.
Early work had begun on a gap year called 'Expand for young people but has been
delayed by a year.
An 'Hour of Power is a new ministry inlended lo leach God's story to our church in an
engaging way that can be reproduced to reach out to others in our communities and
introduce them to God s story.
We sent two of our people on the Bonhoeffer course.

5. Young People and Children (Next Generation)
Youth
Probably the biggest hit to our ministry has been in the area of our youth work. We had lo
make the post of Youth Team Leader redundant this yea¥ due to the closure of our youth
works and the lack of funding available through the g¥ant System that PTevioiJsly helped
to fund the post. However".
We have continued to serve our youth in the church through a team of volunteers
Sunday morning meetings included the Alpha course
Mid-week games nights online
Youth team members serving the local foodbank
o An online summer international gathering was held
Children
Mini-Cogs12-5sI we have developed an online version of Mini-cogs with George and
Dan two puppets thal have carried the young children into the wonderful discovery of
God.
Xplosion 16-iisl a similar online ministry age appropriate was developed and moved to
Zoom on a Sunday afternoon.
We ran a Holiday Club for children during Octobei half term
We set up a Christmas trail from a local park to local church called 'Follow The Star. in
conjunction with another local church and primary school teaching the Christmas story
We ran Messy Church sessions online and in person (when we were allowodl, providing
children and their parents/ carers with songs. crafts. food & creative 8ible stories every
month online. We also delivered Messy Church online lo Ham Dingle Primary School
during Christmas and Easter
We ran a discipleship group for girls in years s and 6 called Love Alive over Zoom
looking at the Freedom In Christ course for kids
We provided bags of blessing for families during Oclobei Half Term and Christmas. for
mother s for Mother s Day and kept in louch with all of our known our families during
the first lockdown with Easter cards.
We set up an online parents support group via WhalsApp which aids community and
support
In conjunction with Sl Marys Oldswinford and Oldswinford Primary School we helped lo
run another trail from St Mary Stevens Park to St Marys Church called'The
Eggstraordinary Trail. leaching the easter story and culminating in a chocolate easter

We have undergone some fefurbishments to our main church facility.
Humon Resources
The most significant HR development was making the post of Youth Team Leader
redundant and the completion of our contract with Phase Trust to provide youth work in
the community

We had an inciease in giving Lhis year. even wilh the impact of Covid 19 the trustees are
delighted by the level of commitment to the church and its clear vision God and good
governance has kept us veiy secure financially We have healthy reserves and our
expenditure has only exceeded our Income by the investment we have made to renew
our sound desk and refurbish our main facility Church attendees continue to be our
single biggest source of income. We also continued lo make good use Gift Aid.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
Bank Balances
The reduction in the bank balances of 23.4/0 reflects the costs of refurbishment, the
winding up of the youth work funded by grants fiom the Phase Trust & redundancy
payments to two members of Ihe youth team.
o We started using designated funds to manage our finances & this explains the shift in
money from the unrestricted general fund to our designated funds

by the Board. The Board ieceives an update on the church's financial position at each of its
meeting5
POLICIES
The Iriistees keep the key church policies under review and update them where appropriale
and lo ensure they reflect current legistalion.
In this period, we have reviewed our Safeguarding Policy. created a Health and Safety Handbook
to complement our Health and Safety Policy and have reviewed all of our Financial Policies. We
have also created a Social Media Policy.
Responsibilities of trustees under company law
The trustees are responsible for preparing the trustees, annual report and the financial
statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards
(United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practicel
Company law requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which
give a true and fair view of the stale of the affairs of the charltable company as at the balance
sheet date and of its incoming resources and application of resources. including income and
expenditure. for the financial year. In preparing these financial statements. the trustees are
required to..
i. select sultable accounting policies and apply them consistently..
2. observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP,
makejudgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent..
4. state whether the applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to any
material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements, and
5. prepare the financial statements on a going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to
presume that the charity will continue in operation.
The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that disclose with
reasonable accuracy at any lime the financial position of the charitable company and enable
them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Companies Act 2006 They are
also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charilable company and hence for taking
reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and othei irregularities
CONCLUSION
I conclude my seventh report as Chair of Trustees wanling to give thanks to God for all the
lives that have been touched by God's love at and through Chawn Hill Church and the growing
acts of love and service that take place throughout the year There are 50 many other things
