## **Brinsley Animal Rescue Trustees’ annual report for the year ended 31 December 2022**

**Full name** Brinsley Animal Rescue

## **Registered charity number** 1135508

**Principal address** 69 Hobsic Close, Brinsley, Nottingham, NG16 5AX

## **Trustees**

Jonathan Beresford, Chair Bethan Mair Hewis, Treasurer David Aren Oyamo Otieno, Secretary Amanda Richardson

## **Independent examiner**

John O’Brien, employee of Community Accounting Plus, Units 1 & 2 North West, 41 Talbot Street, Nottingham, NG1 5GL

## **Governance and management**

The charity is operated under the rules of its constitution adopted 25 January 2009.

We do not have a written process of appointing Trustees, 3 of the 4 Trustees are founder Trustees. On the two occasions Trustees have resigned, we have approached long-term volunteers for interest in the position, these then get nominated and voted at our Trustee meetings.

## **Objectives and activities**

For the benefit of the public to relieve the suffering and distress of animals in need of care and attention by reason of sickness, neglect or mistreatment and in particular to provide and maintain rescue homes or other facilities for the reception, care and treatment of such animals, to educate the public on matters concerning animal welfare.

## **Public benefit statement**

The Trustees confirm that they have complied with the duty in section 17 of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit, 'Charities and Public Benefit'.

## **Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit**

We provide experienced voluntary service to the public for the rescue of pets, wild animals and farm animals.

Pets and Farm Animals - We admit unwanted, neglected, stray and abandoned pets and farm animals into our care. These animals are assessed, treated and then we seek life-long homes as pets, ensuring that any adoptee has suitable facilities and knowledge, for the welfare of the animal(s).

2

## **Brinsley Animal Rescue**

All animals are fully health assessed and treated, this includes neutering, worming, vaccinations and any other treatment necessary for their welfare, to ensure they find suitable homes and to prevent breeding.

When persons consider the adoption of pets or farm animals from us, we provide advice on their housing, keeping, treatment and welfare. We provide this throughout the life of animal adopted from us.

Animals we take in come from the public who are forced to give up their pets through unplanned events, from a change of circumstances and many that have been abandoned to fend for themselves.

Wildlife - We admit orphaned, sick and injured wildlife. These are assessed, treated, rehabilitated and where possible released back into the wild. Due to the nature of wildlife, many are euthanised to end or prevent suffering, in accordance with our Euthanasia Policy.

Education - We provide information and guidance to help, inform and educate the public and other organisations, regarding all matters of animal welfare.

- Through our animal adoption process.

- We deal with over 7,000 telephone calls a year, where we provide advice and assistance. In the case of all animals where we are not able to admit an animal or provide advice, we signpost the public as well liaise directly with other organisations.

- We facilities practical training for the public on work experience, DoE and in further education on animal courses.

- We facilitate limited visits by groups such as cubs and scouts.

- We provide educational talk at schools and to local groups.

- We provide training to our volunteer and other wildlife rescue organisations.

- We take responsibility for pets and farm animals surrendered by the public. When in our care, they are assessed, health checked treated and rehomed to suitable homes with the public.

- We provide support, education, information and advise on all matters of animal welfare to the public via multiple channels.

- We admit wildlife from the public in need of specialist care and treatment.
