1. The Charity has the following Policies;

2. The majority of animals are admitted / released / rehomed within the East Midlands and surrounding areas. We do however admit and rehome a few from much further afield, especially farm animals. We will always consider suitable homes anywhere in the county. 

3. We have no official relationship with any charity or organisation; we do though work with many other animal rescue charities and organisations across the country, when trying to rescue and re-home animals or giving/obtaining advice.

The Charity is predominantly run by volunteers, however as we have limited ad-hoc part-time, self-employed contractors. 

The Charity could not operate without the hard work and dedication from our volunteers, who perform, amongst other activities, the following.

- Animal care and treatment, cleaning out, feeding, treating, and rescuing and rehabilitation.

The Charity receives funding from; 

- We have a many regular monthly donations from supporters by direct debit or fundraising platforms. 

- Donations from the public when they bring an animal into our care. 

- The charity has a minimum guidance adoption fee when animals are adopted. 

- The public and sponsor animals. 

- Social Media donations. 

- Members of the public carrying out their own fundraising events.

This report covers for the period 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2020. 

Brinsley Animal Rescue was formed in 2009 and became a Registered Charity on 14 April 2010. The Charity is run primarily by volunteers, with ad-hoc part-time, self-employed assistants. The Charity is operated from property and land owned by two of the four Trustees. The 22 acres of land, comprising of a number of fields and enclosures, stables, stable yard, manage, wildlife hospital and volunteers’ room are provided to the Charity free of charge. 

2020 was a very challenging year for the charity not least due to the pandemic which had a financial impact, with the cancelling of all fundraising events and the impact on volunteers having to isolate and avoid others. 

The charity adapted by reducing our spend, managing the animal admissions to balance the available resources of volunteers and funds. 

Despite the significant challenges, in terms of the number of animals rescued, treated, released, or rehomed, there was an increase on 2019 - 416 animals to 937 in 2020.

The number of pets and farm animals that the Charity was not in a position to admit into its care, due to a lack of available resources (money, time, space) reduced from 828 in 2019 to 685 in 2020. Although this at face value looks positive, the Trustees fear that this is a one off and as a result of the pandemic, resulting in a surge of demand for pets, as people spend far more time at home. 

The Charites income reduced in 2020 by over £68k, this was largely due a one-off donation in excess of £100k in 2019 and so not a like-for-like comparison. 

During the year the charity dealt with 937 wild, pet and farm animals, of these 531 animals were released back into the wild or in the case of pets and farm animals re-homed, 76 were euthanised in accordance with our non-euthanasia policy, 158 died and 173 remain in the care of the Charity at the sanctuary. 

Unfortunately, there were many pets that the Charity simply could not rescue, due to financial, time or accommodation constraints. A summary of the pets and farm animals the Charity was called on to help but could not be due to a lack of resources is summarised below;
