Trustees. Annual Report (Incorporating the Director's Report)
Year ended 31 December 2024
The trustees, who are also the directors for the purposes of company law, present their report and the
unaudited financial statements of the charty for the year ended 31 December 2024.
Objectives and activities
Objectives
The central objective of the charty are to relieve the economic and social circUmstan￿S of the
homeless. Hope's primary purpose is homelessness. to support those who have nowhere to live. and
those at risk of losing their home, as well as seeking to tackle the reasons why people lose their hotne
and the effect this has on the individuals COn￿rned. We also look at how we can better influence and
publicise issues surrounding homelessness. to raise awareness of the catastrophic personal impact it
can have on individuals and families. The charity has worked to achieve its objectives by:
Providing direct access to emergency accommodation to homeless people
Providing service users with focused one-to￿ne tailored support to help individuals address the
issues they face
Providing move-on accommodation at various locations With support and assistan
Providing information, advice, plus practical a&sistance to prevent homelessness
Working in partnershlp with others to help service users to address substance misuse. mental and
physical health issues, housing, education, training and employment.
Ensurlng activiti88 deliver our aims and objectlves
VVe review our aims, objectives and activities e&h year and consider what has been achieved and the
outcomes of this work. The review looks at the success of each 8Ctivity and the benefits that have been
delivered. The process ensures we remain focused on our key purpose.
Publi¢ benefrt
bve have referred to the Charity Commissions general guidance on public benefit when reviewing our
aims and objectives and in planning future activities. In particular Trustees consider how the activities
that are planned will contribute to the achEvement of the aims and objectives.
Hope's services a￿ delivered in an inclusive manner and are available to all men and women over the
age of 18 years. The services are available to anyone that is homeless or at risk of homelessness. The
charity endeavours to provide services to anyone. regardless of their history, subject to a robust risk
asSess￿nt process. We do not deny ServI￿S to anyone except in the most exceptional circumstance,
such as following a serious breach of our rules that endanger a service user or staff member. Any period
of exclusion from our service will be as short as reasonably possible, usually one to sixty days
There are occasions when we are not able to offer services to everyone that requires it, because as a
small team, we are operating at full capacity. In these circumstances we seek alternatives k￿th internally
and through other providers.

Volunteers
Hope is grateful for the support and help given by its team of volunteers. Volunteering is a rewarding
activty for many, offering experience, qualifications and routine. Hope's volunteers ensure the
organisation remains grounded within the local community.
Achievements and performance
Hope continues to support people who are affected by homelessness in Bassetlaw and Nottinghamshire
through provision of shelter and a safe place for those without a permanent residence alongslde
intensive support to address the complex issues people who are homeless often have. Hope's objectives
vRre to focus on offering a range of core seNices to enable service users to address the issues they
face, to help them make decisions abJut their accommodation needs and 8UPPOrt them to secure long-
term accommodation. This was achieved by:
Providing direct access to emergency accommodation to homeless people
Providing service users with focused one-tO￿ne tailored support to help individuals address the
issues they fa
Providing move-on accommodation at various locations with support and assistsnce
Providing information, advi￿, plus practical assistance to prevent homelessness
We also concentrated our efforts on building positive working relationships with partner agencies to
better address the homelessness issues in Bassetlaw. as VR recognise the importance of providing
wraparound services. Providing the Severe INeather Emergency Provision (SWEP) through the winter
mnths in partnership with Bassetlaw District Council, allowed us to connect with and support a wide
range of clients that we had, for much of the previous year, been unable to provide accommodation to
due to them being too high risk for seplice. Many of these individuals were able to access Sl*lEP and
built trust and rapport with the staff team uttimately transitioning into the hostel accommodation.

The results for the year are shown in the Statement of Financial Activity on page 9. Unrestricted income
amounted to £387,256 (2013- £375.945) and ReStr￿ted income was £143,614 (2023- £227.152) giving

Resources expended totalled £554,450 (2023 - £589.222).
The total defiat for the year was £23,580 (2023 - surplus £13,615).

Investment policy
Grants received in advance and any surplus funds that may from time to time be available are invested
in bank deposit accounts.
Reserves policy
Due to the volatility of the charity's incorrE, reserves are needed to bridge the possibility of a gap
between monthty commitments and income from housing benefit, donations and grants.
The trustees have set a target of £100.000 for funds that are freely available which is approximately 3
months of expenditure. This is assuming zero income, which is unlikely.
The trustees also require a redundancy resenie whlch is the amount of money it would take to pay all
staff their redundancy entitlement should the charty cease to exist. This figure is updated quarterly and
currently stands at £43,657.
The charity holds a significant level of assets in the form of residential properties. Should the charlty
require any additional finances, it is abFe to take the decision to sell property.
Plans for future perlods
Hope recognises the need to be flexible and ready to develop new ways of working to respond to current
economic pressures and to the changing needs of our ser41￿ users, funders and other stakeholders.
We h&4e identified the key priorities for the future to help shape and guide the organisation's work as
we respond to the environment:
By capturing data which will demonstrate the full breadth of what we do. the true number of
individuals which we support, the impact we make on peoples, lives and the effect we have in our l<Kal
community.
To promote partnership working with other organisations, whethervoluntary and community, public
or prrvate sector. To effectively deliver a holistic service for those in greatest need, and referral and
signposting where appropriate.
Improve the standard of our accommodab"on' increase capacity, improve facilities, widen diversity
and responsiveness to client need.
Structure, governance and management
The organisation is a charitable company limited by guarantee, incorporated on 6th January 2009 and
registered as a charity on 12th April 2010. The company was established under a Memorandum of
Association that clearly sets out its objectives and powers and is governed under its Articles of
Association.
On 1st August 2012 the charity took over activities and received the entire net assets of the
unincorporated charity known as Hope for the homeless (Charity number 1059786) as permitted In the
Memorandum of Association and outtined in the asset transfer 8greement.

The charity is a public benefrt entity and a private company limited by guarantee, registered in
England and Wales and a registered charity in England and Wales. The address of the registered
off￿ is 17 Queen Street, Worksop. Nottinghamshire, S80 2AN. England.
statement of compliance
These financial statements have been prepared in compliance with FRS 102, 'The Financial
Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and the Republic of Ireland,, the Statement of
Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordan￿ with the
Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102} (Charities
SORP (FRS 102>) and the Companies Act 2006.
Accounting policies
Basis of preparation
The financial statements have been prepared on the historical cost basis, as modified by the
revaluation of certain financial assets and liabilities and investment properties measured at fair
value through income or expenditure.
The financial statements are prepared in sterling, which is the functional currency of the entity.
Going Concorn
There are no material uncertainties about the charity's ability to continue.
Judgements and key sources of estimatlon unc•riainty
The preparation of the financial statements requires management to make judgements, estimates
and assumptions that affect the amounts reported. These estimates and judgements are
continually reviewed and are based on experience and other factors, including expectations of
future event5 that are believed to be reasonable under the circumstances. Accounting estimates
and assumptions are made concerning the future and, by their nature, will rarely equal the related
actual outcome. The key assumptions and other sources of estimation uncertainty that have a
siqnificant risk of causing a material adjustment to the carrying amounts of assets and liabilities
within the next financial year are as follows: The estimated useful economic lives and hence the
rates of depreciation of fixed assets and the fair value of freehold land and buildings.
Fund accounting
Unrestricted funds are available for use at the discreb'on of the trustees to further any of the
charity's purposes.
Designated funds are unrestricted funds earmarked by the trustees for particular future project or
commitment.
Restricted funds are subjected to restrictions on their expendtture declared by the donoror through
the temis of an appeal, and fall into one of iwo sub-dasses: restricted income funds or endowment
funds.

Incoming resources
All incoming resources a￿ included in the statement of financial activities when entitlernent has
passed to the charity. it is probable that the economic beneffts associated wrth the transaction will
flow to the charity and the amount can be reliably measured. The following specific policies are
applied to particular categories of income:
income from donations or grants is recognised when there is eviden￿ of entitlement to the
gift, receipt is probable and ts amount can be measured rdiably.
legacy income B recognised when re￿Ipt is probable and entitlement is established.
income from donated gc<Jds is measured at the fair value of the goods unless this is
impractical to measure reliably, in which case the value is derived from the cost to the donor
or the estimated resale value. Donated facilities and services are recognised in the accounts
when received if the value can be reliabty measured. No amounts are included for the
contribution of general volunteers.
income from contracts for the supply of ServI￿S is recognised with the delivery of the
cOntr￿ted service. This is classified as unrestricted funds unless there is a contractual
requirement for it to be spent on a particular purpose and returned rf unspent. in which case
it may be regarded as restricted.
Resources expended
Expenditure is recognised on an accruals basls as a liability is incurred. Expenditure includes any
VAT which cannot be fully recovered, and is classified under headings of the statement of financial
activities to whth it relates:
expenditure on raising funds includes the costs of all fundraising activitles, events, non-
charitable trading activities, and the sale of donated goods.
expenditure on charitsble activities includes all costs incurred by a charity in undertaking
activities that further rts charitable aims for the benefit of its beneficiaries, including those
support costs and costs relating to the governan￿ of the charity app)rtioned to charitable
activities.
other expenditure includes all expenditu￿ that is neither related to raising fvnds for the charty
nor part of its expenditure on charitable activits'es.
All costs are all¢xated to expenditure categories reflecting the use of the resour￿. Direct costs
attributable to a single activty are allocated directly to that activity. Shared costs are apportioned
between the activities they contribute to on a ￿aSOnable. justifiable and consistent basis.
Tangible assets
Tangible assets are initially recorded at cost, and subsequently stated at cost less any accumulated
depreciation and impairment losses. Any tangible assets carried at revalued amounts are recorded
at the fair value at the date of revaluation less any subsequent accumulated depreciation and
subsequent accumulated impair￿Ent losses.

Tangible assets (contlnugd)
An increase in the carrying amount of an asset as a result of a revaluation, is recognised in other
recognised gains and losses, unless it reverses a charge for impairment that has previously LEen

amount of an asset as a result of revaluation. is recognised in other ￿CogniSed gains and losses.
except to which it offsets any previous revaluation gain. in which case the loss is shown within
other recognised gains and losses on the statement of financial activities.
Depreciation
Depreciation is calculated so as to write off the cost or valuation of an asset, less ts resKlual value,
over the usefvl economic life of that asset as follows:
Freehold property
Fixtures and fittings
o- 10% Straight line
20Yo Straight line & Reducing balance
Impalrment of fixed assets
A review for indicators of impaiment is carried out at each reporting date, with the recoverable
amount being estimated where such indicators exist. Vthere the carrying value eX￿ed$ the
recoverable amount, the asset is impaired accordingly. Prior impairments are also reviewed for
possible reversal at each reporting date.
For the purposes of impairment testing, when it is not possible to estimate the recoverable amount
of an individual asset, an estimate is made of the recoverable amount of the cash-generating unit
to which the asset belongs. The cash-generating unit is the smallest identifiable group of assets
that indudes the asset and generates cash inflows that largely independent of the cash inflows
from other assets or groups of assets.
For impaimEnt testing of goodwill. the goodwill acquired in a business combination is, from the
acquisition date, allocated to each of the cash-generating units that are expected to benefit from
the synergies of the combination. irrespective of whether other assets or liabilities of the charity
are assigned to those units.
Flnancial instruments
A financial asset or a financial liability FS recognised only when the charty becomes a party to the
contractual provisions of the instrument.
Basic financial instruments are initially recognised at the amount re￿[Vable or payable including
any related transaction costs.
Current assets and current liabilities are subsequently measured at the cash or other consideration
expeckd to be paid or re￿iVed and not discounted.
Debt instruments are subsequently measured at amortised cost.
Vthere investments in shares are publicly traded or their fair value can othe￿iSe be measured
reliably, the investment is subsequently measured at fair value with changes in fair value
recognised in income and expenditure. All other such investments are subsequenlly measured at
cost less impairment.

other financial instruments, including derivatives, are initially recognised at fair value, unless
payment for an asset is deferred beyond normal business terms or financed at a rate of interest
that is not a market rate, in which case the asset is measU￿d at the present value of the future
payments discounted at a market rate of interest for a similar debt instrument.
Other financial instruments are subsequently measured at fair value, with any changes recognised
in the statement of financial activities. with the exception of hedging instruments in a designated
hedging relationship.
Financial assets that are measured at cost or amortised cost are reviewed for objective evidence
of impairment at the end of each reporting date. If there is objective evldence of impairment, an

For all equity instwments regardless of signrficance, and otherfinancial assets that are individually

Any reversals of impairment are recognised immediately, to the extent that the reversal does not
