It has specrfically cOnntrated on bein8 a church where our aim is to glorify God by building a Christ centred communlty through the power of the Holy Spirit. The PCC has the responsibility for the maintenance of the fabric of the two churches wlth the attsched halls, the St Andrews Christian Centre. the North and South Rooms includlng the fumiture and furnishingwithin them. Membershi Members of the PCC are either ex-offficlo or elerted by the Annual Parochial Church Meeting in accordance with the Church Representation Rules. Ob ective5 and Activities The PCC is committed to enabling as many people as posslble to worshlp at our churches and to become part of the parish community. The PCC maintains an oVeIeW of worshlp throughout the parish and makes suggestions on how our services can be acce55ible to the many groups w5thln our parish. Our servi5 put faith into practi through Scripture, prayer, liturgy, music and the sacrament5. In 2023 we saw growth in terms of attendance at all our congregations and in our small group numbers. We continued to maintsin our small group network and saw new and old ministries flourish due to God's goodness. We seek to be a welcoming church family at all times but especially around the major Christian festivals. We have continued to run a Food Larder for those who have no food and continued to offer advice to those who need help with job applications or benefit claims as best we could. These seNlces have continued to be increasingly well used as the year progressed. When plannlng our artivities throughout the year, the incumbent and PCC have sought to fulfil the Commission's guidance on publlc benefit and, in particular. the specific 8uldance to charities for the advancement of reli8ion. In particular we seek to enable everyone in our parish to Ilve out thelr faith 5 part of our church community by- Services and prayer; learning more about the Gospel through the Blble and developing knowledge and trust in Jesus. Provldlr)g pastoral care for people living in the parish (through variou5 means). Evangelistic, mi55ionary and outreach work Ithis continues to be our greatest challenge bLrt through, festival services, care homes, food larder, South Room, Sunday Services, Bay Ignite and schools provision we have seen our Impact grow and develop.) To facllltate this work, it is important that we maintain the fabric of the two churches with the attached halls, the St Andrew's Christian Centre. the North and South rooms. This yearwe have had number of challenges but have Sought to meet these and to ensure that when needed the buildings were available and in the best state p055ible. We have contlnued the redesign of St Andrews Church so it will be more suitable and useful to the community. This ha5 been funded from reserves. Achievements and erformance The PCC are keen to offer a range of actlvities durin8 the week and over the course of the year that our comrnunity find both beneficial and spirltually fumiiing. The provlslon we have been able to make has been noted above. In 2024 we will continue to be open to starting new mlnlstries and stoppin8 ones that no longer fulfil their purpose. In 2023 our paid and volunteer staff was strengthened as we were able, due to generous pledges. to appoint Simon Fellows a5 a550ciate vicar. Furthermore, we will continueto look for new ways to engage with the community. The social side of the church was, before the pandemic. well developed and very well supported,. we hoped to be able to return to much of this in 2023 but continued to be one of hardest areas of church Ilfe to rebuild so we have plans to work on this in 2024. Christmas school Services were well recelved and we are gl3d to have continued great relatlonshlps with all our local schools. We have continued to support our two new mid-week congregations almed at both famllles and adults and atthe end of 2023 these were in good heart. We have continued oursunday congregation aimed at young farnllles which is much appreclated and has grown in number. a need we rnentioned in last year's accounts. In addition to our regular services and actlvltles we have taken less funerals than usual and had only a few baptisms. The church has never had many marriages and that continues to be case.
Deaner Three lay members of the PCC join the vlcar and assoclate vicar on the Deanery Synod. Our parlsh has an active involvement in the deanery and through thatwith the wider church. One lay member of the PCC is now on Diocesan Synod and so on Deanerysynod. Thiswill end In Aprll 2024 although She will join Deanery Synod when she is ordained permanent deacon In June 2024. The Deanery has some signlficant challenges to face in 2024. many in regards to local church finance. The Fabrlc We have sought to keep the building safe for use and have upgraded various parts of both churches to make them Safe and welcoming spaces. Pastoral Care The church also runs many small group5 for both the church family and wlder communlty. The staff and variousvolunteers sought and continue to seek to offer support and encouragement. We have tried not to mlss anyone out but recognise we will have not succeeded In everything we tried to do. Mlssion and Evan elism Helping those in need is a demonstration of ourfaith. The PCC has continued to 8ive money awayto three organizations in thi5 country and abroad- Scripture Union, Mission without borders and Chureh Army Africa in Nairobi. These were selected for the years 2023-2025. We provlded food and help locally. Ecurnenical Relatlonshl The local church leaders have met together occasionally and we have continue to look at the best way forward for the churche5 to work together. Committees The PCC met ten tlmes In 2023 and had a Saturday morning thinktn8 about the future dlrectlon of the church when other church leaders were also present.. Church Electoral Roll The number registered on the electoral roll at the 2023 APCM In May was 165. Finance The detalled flnancial statements follow this report and show a net Ioss on the general fund for 2023 of £54,190 leaving £98,914 to carry forward to 2024. The PCC have authorized significant repairs & maintenance expenditure of a capital nature in 2023 on the St Andrews building and the Chrlst Church sound system5 and this is reflerted in the accounts this year. The Restrlrted Fund set up in order to finance the Associate Vicar post has begun to be used thSs year wlth the appointment of the Rev Simon Fellows. The balance of thls account at the end of 2023 was £83,858. Anthony Everett Chalrman- March - 2024
