## **Description of the charity’s trusts**

> [Constitution adopted 17 March 2009. ]

How the charity is constituted

- (eg. trust, association, company)

> [Unincorporated association. ]

Trustee selection methods

(eg. appointed by, elected by)

## **Section C Objectives and activities**

**Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document**

The principal purpose of the church is the advancement of the Christian faith according to the principles of the Baptist denomination. The church may also advance education and carry out other charitable purposes in the United Kingdom and/or other parts of the world.

The following activities were restricted during 2021 due to the restrictions imposed by the Covid pandemic.

In order to achieve the principal objective which is set out above, the church provides a variety of activities both to its membership and the community generally.

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)**

A major part of the work and witness of the Church is the provision of regular public services of Christian worship. These services take place each Sunday at 10.30am and some evenings. Details are provided on the church website at www.wokinghambaptist.gov.uk There is a full children’s programme during the morning. The church also runs a series of small groups which principally meet in members’ houses. They aim to encourage the growth of faith and discipleship.

4321 is a drop-in parent and toddler group for children aged 4 and below takes place on Tuesday mornings, 10am until 11.30 during term time.

Activities include a craft table, painting, story time, as well as a large play area (taking over the whole church!) and a quiet room for babies. An ever changing set of activities for young people also takes place. The church website gives up to date information.

The church operates systems to ensure that all people working with children and vulnerable adults are appropriately vetted with regard to the Criminal Records Bureau.

The trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit and are satisfied that the activities outlined above clearly demonstrate that the charity is providing a benefit to the public

## Section D Achievements and performance

**Summary of the main** The church does not measure the success of its activities only in **achievements of the charity** numbers, including financial numbers, but also on less tangible areas **during the year** like fellowship and encouragement. The trustees recognise that these are difficult to measure, but believe that 2021 was a positive year in the life of the church despite the restrictions imposed by the Covid pandemic.

## **Section E Financial review**

The church had an overall surplus of receipts over payments for the **Brief statement of the** year of £16,643. **charity’s policy on reserves** The amount of grants made to outside causes was closely monitored during the year to ensure that amounts were not made in excess of the resources available. A total of £45,983 was made in grants to outside charitable causes during the year. The trustees have made an assessment of the major risks facing the church, and are satisfied that there are policies in place to minimise these risks. **Details of any funds materially** No funds were in deficit during the year or at the year end. **in deficit**

## **Section G Declaration**

**The trustees declare that they have approved the trustees’ report above.**
