Summary of the main achievements during the period
Secretary's Report
It was in sad circumstances that I was elected to PCC secretary during the October
meeting. Jean has left big shoes to fill and I hope that I can do the role justice.
As with most aspects of life, the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns meant that the
PCC met only four times in person in 2019, the last after mass on the 17th March,
socially distanced in the Lady Chapel. As was the growing trend with meetings
during 2020, we moved to online meetings in September and met online via Google
Meet 3 times. You may have seen a screen shot on the Priory Facebook page of our
happy smiling faces from one of those meetings.
We continue to discuss finan￿, fabric, and the pastoral aspects of our church life.
Last year, of course we discussed the risk assessments required during each period
of lockdown and easing of restrictions and how best to continue our worship. The
topics of fabric and pastoral care were also key aspects of our discussions as you
may imagine.
At the moment we are unable to display the minutes in the folder in the South
Transept due to the pandemic but the minutes continue to be added as a record. You
will also find an informal report of meetings in the Church magazine for you to read.
Please do remember you can contact any member of the PCC if you have a matter
you wish to have discussed. The PCC represents our congregation and so that
includes any and all topics that you feel of importance, or concern that we may not
have even thought about.
Thank you to Pat Lakeland and Tina Thistlewaite for your contribution and
commitment during your time on the PCC as your turn of office finishes at the next
APCM.

Bell ringers Report
Sadly, there has been no bell ringing for a year and probably there will be none this
year either. It affects all the towers not just the Priory and very strict rules for the
chimes as well which people will probably think this does not apply. We also cannot
do any maintenance on the bells as we have to go in bNOS up in the tower and work
as a team. Sadly, Dave Baron who used to do our maintenance on the bells and help
us with teaching our learners passed away just before Christmas with cancer. Ray
who used to help us, who we all loved very much also passed away in September.
No one knows when we will be able to ring again which everyone misses as we
practised three times a week and we all enjoyed each other's company and became
great friends and were like one big family. When we do start again, the bells will
need looking at and need oiling as well as to see if anything structural needs seeing
to. So, for the meantime the noisy people in the church will be the quietest.

Children and Young People
It's sad to think that we haven't been able to work with our usual zeal for Junior
Church, Youth Group, Wiggly worship & Messy church over the last eleven months.
We have however managed to offer Junior Church at as many Sunday masses that
have been possible with the Covid restrictions strictly in place. Wiggly worship has
had a few virtual sessions to nursery at school and from The Lady Chapel too.
Thanks to everyone who has supported this by teaching or cleaning & volunteering
to keep the church open. Parents have felt very supported too. We've managed to
act pastorally to families via phone calls or distanced doorstep chats.
We distributed Advent activity calendars to all our range of young people from tots to
teenagers. They replied by donating to the Christingle collection which would
normally take place on Christmas Eve. Church families were invited to attend a
Covid safe service instead.
Having a Church school has been very supporting for families too, under very
unusual circumstances. I hear all the time from parents how supporting the staff are.
Thank you to them.
We look forward to being "released" from the restraints of the pandemic, but Praise
God that we can safely worship by a safe visit or virtually. We look forward to church
picnics, tug of war & lots of games on the Church green in the not too distant future.

Priory Action Group Report
But what can we do?
And it was essentially with that question that Priory Action Group emerged. We hope
to follow roughly the pattern of justice and peace groups but we do not want to be
limited by one cause or movement. We wish to help and take action wherever it is
needed on a local, national, and even global level.
We plan to do this in 3 ways..
firstly, by raising awareness (look out for articles, groups, information sessions}-
secondly, by engaging with local charities and groups in the Bassetlaw area.,
thirdly, by engaging with groups and charities on a wider national and global
level.
Due to the pandemic we have only so far managed to operate via the magazine and
the Priory Action Group Facebook which launched in September and our first action
month was in October with Christian Aid's Harvest Appeal. In November the focus
was Refugees and in December it was Homelessness.
We hope that you will get involved with at least one of our upcoming causes in 2021
and please do not hesitate to contact either Charlotte Rushby or Fr David James to
find out more, ask questions, or propose a cause.
Reader's Report
Well what a year this has been. I missed Easter 2019 as I had just come out of
hospital and was so looking forward to 2020. When Fr Spicer asked me to preach for
Holy Week and Easter I was over the moon. I worked on this only to find that
because of Covid I was to miss another Easter and all my hard work came to
nothing. I have preached, led intercessions and administered the chalice during 2020
when Covid has allowed it. Leading up to Easter, Fr David and I led a Lent group
online, but again it wasn't like actually being physically together. Due to travelling
restrictions I have been unable to attend mass on a regular basis. However, being
married to a priest has made it possible for me to ￿lebrate mass and keep festivals
and I feel very privileged and grateful for this. During mass in the past I have worked
with a ladies group and although this hasn't been able to continue I have kept in
touch with them and they have continued to keep the sacrament of reconciliation
during the year. I hope and pray that we will soon be back to normal, whatever
normal may be and have more positive news to report.

Treasurer's Report
The church has to meet many expenses and financial obligations throughout the
year. Payment of these is challenging in an average year, but during the pandemic it
has been even more so.
Income is down £29,000 from 2019, which is mainly due to not being able to have
any fundraising activities such as fayres, coffee mornings and lunches (down
£8,700), a reduction in baptisms, weddings and funerals and their congregations (fee
income and collections were down by £11,400), and donations from visitors and
other sources {down £5,700). This is a double-whammy as not only do we not
receive the amount from these collections, but neither do we get the gift aid from
them.
However, it is pleasing that planned giving has increased slightly, even from those
who have not been able to attend in person during the pandemic. We are incredibly
grateful for your support.
We have introduced a number of new ways of giving, from a contactless machine at
the back of church which is focussed on increasing collections for occasional
services, to online giving through the website and enrolling in the EasyFundraising
and Amazonsmile schemes.
On paper expenditure is down £24,000, but in reality this is because we had to make
the decision to pay less Parish Share than in previous years. The diocese asked us
to pay £53,652, but we were only able to pay £36,000 (£18,000 less than 2019).
However, this was actually quite an achievement considering the reduction in
income.
Even though the church building has been used much less than normal, most
expenses still remain. We still have to pay for the church insurance (which, behind
Parish Share, is our second highest outgoing), utilities, repairs, electrical checks and
boiler servicing. The PCC has had to make difficult decisions on reducing costs by
eliminating the Musical Director post, and some cost savings will continue, such as
producing fewer paper versions of materials to provide for those who cannot receive
them online.
We have invested in installing WiFi in church and audiolvisual equipment to support
the live streaming of services.
As the free-banking period finished with Yorkshire Bank we agreed to move to HSBC
who provide free banking for churches. However, as most banks have closed for new
business accounts we have not been able to make the transition.
Managing the church finances is not a one-person job, and l am grateful to everyone
who has supported me in the Treasurer role since starting in April. Especially David
Caseldine for counting the money each week, Kate Walters for organising the
envelope and gift aid claims, and Ivy Underwood for helping me to keep on top of
fees and incoming invoices, and to Keith Proudlove for keeping well organised
accounts over the previous 9 years which made the transition as smooth as it could
have been.
