St Mary’s PCC Hinckley – Annual Report 2020
Background
St Mary’s PCC has the responsibility for co-operating with the vicar in promoting in the ecclesiastical parish the whole inclusive mission of the church including pastoral, evangelic, social and ecumenical. It also has maintenance responsibilities for the church, St Mary’s Community Hall and St Francis Community Centre.
Membership
Members of the PCC are either ex officio or elected at the Annual Church Parochial Meeting (APCM) in accordance with the Church Representation Rules. During the year the following served as members of the PCC:
Vicar: Rev Vince Jupp Diocesan Transition Enabler. (Temporary Position)
Children and Young Children’s Worker: Bev Frettsome Treasurer: Ann Wright
Church Maintenance: Colin Bent Churchwardens: Beverley Henderson and Elizabeth Seal Deputy Wardens: Steven Townson
Representatives to Deanery Synod: Val Carr, Alistair Crooks and Debbie Dixon Elected members: Susan Griffin, Paul Hopkinson, Judy Williams, Debbie Dixon, Elisa Simmons, Janet Pettit, Kerry Shilton, Susan Moore, Rosemary Simpson, Don Wright, Duane Mellor, Peter Harris.
Committees
The PCC operates through a number of committees which meet between meetings of the PCC. Members of these committees are not necessarily members of the PCC.
Finance and Fabric Committee – This has the power to transact the business of the PCC between its meetings, subject to any direction given by the council. It oversees the general financial dimension of the work of St Mary’s and is responsible for the fabric of St Mary’s Church
St Francis Management Committee – Responsible for the finance, fabric and work of the St Francis Centre.
St Mary’s Community Hall Committee – Responsible for the finance, fabric and work of St Mary’s Community Hall
Mission Committee - Allocates the church donations to charities. Promotes organisations involved in mission locally, nationally and internationally.
Pastoral Committee – Concerned with pastoral care in the parish
Open Church Committee – Responsible for the open church and running of the coffee bar, book stall and Traidcraft sales.
Church Membership
There were 139 members on the Church Electoral Roll at the APCM 26th August 2020 (APCM was postponed from April due to Covid Pandemic)
Review of the Year
The Church remains in a position of Interregnum, however the Diocese of Leicester has employed a Priest as Transition Enabler and the Rev Vince Jupp joined us at St Mary’s in Dec 2019 and still remains with us until we appoint a new priest.
The PCC met 5 times during 2020 and received reports from the committees, Children’s Worker and Deanery Synod members. The service and presence through the work of the St Francis Centre continues with the manager Jo Boffey. St Mary’s contributes to the wider town through the open church, coffee bar, food bank, Traidcraft sales and also includes working with St Mary’s School, Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council and a range of local and international charities.
During 2020 the Covid-19 pandemic had a huge effect on our Church and Community. The building was closed for many months and all worship was conducted online. The coffee bar was closed and only reopened on reduced hours for many months. Our families and children's worker strived hard to support online and then outdoors with very small groups.
Both the Church Hall and St Francis Center were closed for months. We were able to help the St Marys pre school to reopen to support Key Workers children.
Finance
2020 overall deficit for the whole PCC consolidated accounts amounted to £8 a significant deterioration over the surplus for 2019. Considering the Covid-19 lock downs and loss of income from the coffee bar and fundraising activities this almost breakeven position has to be seen as a positive thing and our Treasurer and PCC applauded for the management of our finances and resources.

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER REPORT TO THE PCC OF ST MARY'S CHURCH PIINCKLEY I report on the consolidated accounts of the St Marf5 Parish. Hinckley, for the year ended 31 December 2020. Respertive responsibilities of the PCC and the examiner. As members of the PCC you are responsible forthe preparation of the accounts; you consider that the audit requirements of section 144(21 of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Attl do not apply. It is my responsibility to: Examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 att; To follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under sertion 14515}Ibl of the 2011 Att- and To state whether particular matters have come to my attention. Basis of this report. My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. That examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the PCC and a comparison of the accounts with those records. It also includes considering any unusual items of disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as trustees conceming any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and. consequently, no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a-true and fairVie and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
