Achlevement and Perfomiance
202V2022
The Circuit welcomed Revd Philip Wagstaff as Superintendent in September 2020 and under
his leadership the Circuit has continued to resource and support the local churches in their
worship, learning and outreach to their local communities. Along with many other
organisations in the community the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic remain and the
impact of the pandemic will continue to be explored during the coming year.

The Rev Tricia Williams retired in July 2022 and her ministry in the Circuit over the past
seven years was marked by a farewell service which was held at Little Common Methodist
Church.
The Rev Crawford Logan joined the Ministerial team in September 2022, having previously
being stationed in the aarton on Sea section of the Tendring Circuit in Essex.
The Circuit Leadership Team ICLTI has met regularly during the year, together with the
Presbyters, to review and develop the attivities of the Circuit so as to support the work of
the local churches.
The Superintendent and members of the CLT held Conversations with each of the churches
in the circuit over the year to enable them to review their ministry, mission. their current
f5nancial sttuation and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. These conversations continue
to inform the development of Circutt policy and future plannin& A Circuit vision day was
held at Trinity Methodist Church, facilitated by members of the South East District Learning
Network. Representatives from all of the circutt churches met together to explore ways of
developing the life, mission and ministry of the Circuit which would then faulitate mission
within the circuit churches.
The Superintendenys responsibility as Govemor for Staplecross Methodist Sthool and part
of the Bridge Federation was resumed and he has developed a good relationship with the
school communty. The Federation includes Staplecross Methodist Primary School and
Salehurst Church of England Primary Sthool. The circuit nominated a member of the Circuit
to be a foundation Govemor during the year.
Members of the Circuit continue to use of Zoom video conferencing. Zoom has been
invaluable in enabling the Circuit to provide worship for people at home as well as provide a
meeting place for coffee mornings, bible study and prayer groups. This has helped in
reducing the carbon footprint of the circuit and the polivi of the circvit is to use Zoom
conferencing during the winter period with MO￿ face to face meetings taking place in the
Springto Autumn period.
The Circuit has fornied a SafeguardingTeam to jointly undertake the responsibilities of the
Circuit Safeguarding Officer and ensure compliance wtth the Methodist Church Safeguarding
Policies. Procedures and Guidance throughout the CircuiL
The Circuit has formed a Property Team with responsibility to act on behalf of the Circuit
Meeting wÉth responsibility for all matters related to Circuit property, and to support local
churches with their property, including property sthemes. In April 2021 a property at
Woodlands, Little Common in Bexhill-on-sea was purchased as a manse and the fom)er

manse in Holmesdale Road was put on the market. A bridging loan wa5 taken out with
Methodist Chapel Aid so that this transaction could be completed in the Sprin& This is
noted in the accounts forthe year end of the transaction period. The transaction went
through, and the Chapel Aid loan has been repaid. The two manses. at Little Common and
Hastings will provide accommodation for the Circuit ministers for many years to come.
Plans for 2022-23
Under the leadership of the Superintendent Minister, the Circutt will continue to explore
ways to renew the mission and ministry of the Circuit and develop a forward plan for
discipleship, mission and ministry. including the employment of lay workers as appropriate,
for the next 3-5 years. As part of this process the Circuit Mission statement will be revisited
so as to more closely define the present work and witness of the Methodist Church in the
area.
It is envisaged that the next change in the ministerial team will take place in 2025. While at
present there is no immediate need to look at how the presbyterial team will be maintained
as it is envisioned that both ministers will be stationed in the circuit for the next three and
five years. The strategic work that has been and will be carried out as the circuit explores
mission and ministry will continue to inform fvture plans for ministerial change5 whenever
they occur.
In accordance with advi￿ given by the Connexlonal Property Officer and the Trustees for
Methodist Church Purposes ITMCP,) who are Custodian Trustees for Methodist property.
the circuit and local managingtru5tees continue to make arrangements for the disposal of
the Sackville Road and Rye premises, monies raised will be used for mlssion and ministry

As with 2020-2021, 2022 -23 has within it many opportunities to develop mission and
ministry and to explore how we continue to engage and work with members of the
communities around the churches. a5 well as engaging with community groups in the
area. There are, as there has been this year, challenges as new vRys of working are
explored due to Covid 19. We are also taking into account the increase in energy costs
which continues to affect the churches financialty as public buildings, together with
ongoing maintenance costs. While these are a concern, WWF of approaching the future
are being explored and the Qrcuit continues to support the local churche5 with advice
and on goingsupport.
