The charity runs a second-hand bookshop in Bideford as well as an eBay site. Funds are raised through the sale of books in our shop, on eBay, the sale of books to World of Books and through small additional f inancial donations received from time to time. Para 1.38 Policy on social investment including program related investment The Charity is entirely staffed by volunteers. We currently have 13 volunteers in addition to the trustees. Volunteers support the charity in a number of ways, including but not limited to collecting books (when necessaryl, sorting books, other shop related activities, managing ebay and running our website. Para 1.38 Contribution made by volunteers Other Achievements and Performance SORP feference March 2024-25 has seen another very successful year for the charity. The charity made £8,427 in charitable donations compared to £5,650 in 2023-2. Donations were made to a range of organizations, includi ng local schools and libraries, f unding for the Peter Christie Memorial Competition, a nd international ly, to Empower the Gambia and Books 4 Africa. Books were also provided to a local food bank. As in previous years the focus has been on both adult and children's literacy initiatives. The increase in funding available for distribution was partly due to increased sa les from our bookshop but also a substantial growth in eBay activity. At the end of the period covered by this report, more than 1,000 books were listed on eBay. Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity's work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. Para 1.20 In terms of resourcing, we have continued to attract volunteers to our charity by advertising in the shop window and through word of mouth. We now have 13 volunteers engaged in various aspect5 of the charity. We also have a revamped website which attracts enquiries with respect to volunteer position5 and a steady supply of donated books. New safeguarding and financial policy has been adopted and documents pertaining to these policies have been shared with all volunteers and copies of these placed under the counter in the shop.

Our current treasurer is stepping back from her role after 10 years of service at the end of the 2024-25 financial year and we are very grateful to herfor her efforts in helping us find a new treasurer and working with him for the f irst two months of 2025 to ensure a smooth transition. Financial Review Review of the charity's financial position at the end of the period Para 1.21 March 2024-25 has seen another very successful year for the charity with a net income of £20,842 and a bank balance of £52,747. Reserves are held to ensure that the Charity can cover removal and other ongoing costs in case of a major disruption to the business. We currently have circa 20,000 books in our shop so moving these and fixtures and fittings as well as identifying and paying a deposit on a new shop frontage would be very expensive.
