As I look back over this past year. l am contlwally rwninded ol the joy, dell8ht and challenge of
"living in view of God's mer¢ies." Livin8 in the Kfe whth results from who God Is and what he has
done. We have been enwraged In seeing 8rovAh in numbers and more Mi￿antlY signs, within
many. of a deepening felationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. We continue to see growth and
develOpn￿ni in our Wofk with thildren, youth and familles. It is exciting to See a"h)tyied up"

Our minislry has continued to run ￿guLar Sunday morning Children's Church sesslons and seasonal
events throu8hout the year. Children's Churth ha5 grown masslvely over the past year and we now
expect to welcome 2￿30 ￿11$ weekty. As a result of this growth and ihe provision of volunteers, we
have been able to spllt into 2 groups: Sheep and C>ove5. Children's Church pro¥lde5 an opportunlty for
the children io share their highs and lows of the week. pray for eath oth￿, worship tO8eiher, play
8ame5, learn about Jesus, and grow In their peryA)nal relationship with him. Chlldren who ale regular
Sunday attenders have a Seesaw yofile whith Is used to keep parents informed about what the
chlldren learn alx>ut and do whik they are out in their 8roup. It is also a dlfert messa8lni faclllty for
parents to reach both the Chlldren's and Familles. Pastors.

Youth Mlnlslry (Fu￿OnI
Fuslon Youth Mlnlstry works wlth Y￿nE people In Year 7-13 (aged 11-181. We currently WDTk wlth
around 20 youn8 people eKh week. Ourlng 2022 Fuslon felurned to our prethld praetlce, wlth the
easln8 018ovemment restrlctlons.
Fuslon meets Monday evenlngs from 7:30pM untll 9pm. We have an average weekly attendance of
16 young people, 5UPPOrted ty a stron8 te￿ of 8 ¥0￿nteer leaders. On Mondays we hwrfe soclal
tlme, refreshments, ¢Yganlsed aames and bible study ond refiection.

We also 80 on numerous trlps throughout the year. In April 2022 we returned to Quinta as part of
our annual weekend away, and In Summer we took the wJun8 people to Crocoi Trall In Che5hlre.
Llttle Explorers
The purposes of ilttle Explorers are to reach out to the community; To be a plxe for people with
ehlldren to come and meet to play and that and to be a yeat opportunity to share God's love and
hls Word. The group started early in 2022 and attendance is on average 30 children each week

centre. A new venture durlnB 2022 now regularly 8ettin8 close to the maxlmum attendance
that we can sustaln In the avallable space, of approximatoly 30-35 chlldren plus
accompanyln8 adults. The majority of the chlldren and adu115 are not currentty re8ular
members of the church alihough some are.
Thursday Brew, a drop.ln open to anyonè whlch takes place In the Church Centre on
Thursday mornlngs for tea. coffee, cake, toast and company. This has been thrfvlng wlth the
AtrSum area of our ¢entre regularly full- and extra iables belne set out. A wlde ¢ross.sectknn
of people attend from the local communlty and the ¢hurch across the age 8roups.
Our care homes mlnlstry has been suspended slnce the Covid pandemic began. Ourin8
2023 It Is anticipated that a small group may now flnalty be allowed back Into one of our
local care homes to run a short seryice for the residents on a regular basis.
A new venture during 2022 was to ¢onnecl wlth Sifver Cord, a local chuich partnership
across Tameside and Glossop respondln8 to those of all ages who are experlenclng
lonellne55 and Isolation. We have a co-ordlnator from within the church, plus a number of
people have been involved In the programme to dellver Chr15tmas mea15, a5 a group 120
Chrl$tmas dlnners were dellvered by over 70 volunteers on Chiistmas Day itself, We also

The Church Certtre ￿rnaIns a hub for many of the weekly activities that take place as part of church

means that there ts someone from the team on sile to welcome and engage with visitors who drop

take place Sn the Centre. Through the week we have a signifKant number of regular activities takin8

actfvltles. staff meetln85. occaslonal Oea￿ry Chapter meetings, several Connect groups and
Rooters. We also hlre ¢xrt two of the roorns of the Cent￿ as ￿luIred, lar8ely to tralnln8 8roups
from the NHS. Tameslde Councll and local educatlon. In 2022 we also hosted the Nazarene Churth
natlonal cOnfe￿nCe South at a much reduced rate. thls covered two day5 plus an evening set up and
had approxlmatety 200 people attendlng for all or part of the tlme uslng both the whole centre and
the church as Part of our alm lo make our facilities available to other local thufches Whe￿ possible.
We also regularly have srnall group5 of teachers from our hxal school uslng the facllltles to plan In a
qulet space away from the school site, host the monthly local Homewatch meetin85 and have hosted
an open day for one of ow local medkal practkes tlws demons¢ratiTha our on8olre deslre to support
our local communlty as we are able. We do not host parties or re8ular weekly bookln8S $0 that we
can arran8e these bookin8s around our regukir xtivilies. as we want ttrese to have access to the
bulld1￿ as required for thelr mlnlstry purposes. The Centre relles on a commltted band of
volunteers- both to staff It •nd io malntaln It, Indudl￿ runnin8 repalrs and cleanlng and u)uld not
run wlthout thelr hard work We also • small team who care for the surroundlng irounds.
Worshlp and Prayer

On rewmptlon of ser¥kes In person t¢Nards the end of 2021 we developed our 9am s*fvSce to
Include sung worshlp, a lull sermon and communlon. Thls has continued and been followed by the
10.30am servlce whkh includes an 'AII Togetherf time pltched at all a8es towards the be8lnnln8 of
the $en41ce. Thls introduces the topic for the day at a level whkh en8a8es the thlldren as well as
the adults and the teachln8 toplc Is then folk)wed as Close￿ as posslble by both adults in Church
and chlldren and young people in thelr own a8e approprlate groups. The All Together tlme also
h)cludes an actlon worshlp song which has seen a number of chlldren and youn8 people comln8 UP
to the Iront to help lead the worship for that son8 enablln8 them to be more engaged in the
worshlp. We still have people who not returned io publk worship with us since Covid restrictlons
were fully lifted. however we have also seen a signifiont nurnber of new people attendinB
includln8 famllles wlth bables. chlklren and teenagers and many have Thxv become regular

Prayer Mlnlslry
Prayer Mlnisty is currently under review following on from a Tr￿nber of informal conversations with
a cross sectK+n of members of the con8regation.11 appears that since ￿ld a number of people have
become more familiar with the use of social media and now preferto post prayer requests on the
Church Facebook page. orto request Fxayer support from members of their Connect Groups. The
staff team are considering a variety of vRy5 in wh￿h people could be Invited to come foThiard aBain
to recelve prayer at the end of 5erwces and this ts currenlfy a work in progres
The Prayer Mlnlstry Team is still able to arrange Quiet Days ar￿ prayer events if requested to do so
and contlnue to have a variety of resource5 whith tl*y can suppty or recommend to member5 of the
congregation who want to deepen their expefiente of Prayer.
Several new people have iokned the PrayerTeam and six new sets of Prayer Triplets have been
forn)ed recentty. It is hwd that these numbers will inerease over ihe ne￿ few months.
We contlnue to meet for prayer on zoom e4EryThursday mornire at 7.30 a.m. and are often Y￿ed
by our missionary partnets- Cello in south Africa and Raian in I￿lia.
Once a month Worship Central is held in the Church Centre and is a tkne when we 8ather around
God's word and join in a period ofworship. We are encouraged lyrf the growing number of people
who are prepared toioin in the time of open prayer at this event.
Connett Groups
2022 Saw a consolldat5on of the Connect Groups at Stjohn's. vfith some sense of norniality
returnln8 at ihe beginning cl the year, along with the group leaders. we Wofked hard at some
reorganlsation to ensure ihat all ihe groups were established on a fwm tootin& Although this meant
a reduction in the numberof 8roups whKh reflerted a drop in the numbef of people attached to
groups, thts has actually been a pogtive mcwe.
We now have 6 groups. IncI￿ling t￿.ROOters. group. and around 65 people c¢)mmltted to regularty
attending the groups. The growth In the number of young adults and famllles coming to St John's has
meant we have been able to set up a 8roup specifkally aimed at that 4e group or life stage which
has been a real encouragemeni. The othew groups have grown ttr) as newcomers to St John's. and
people who have ne4er been invcthled wr¢h a group before. have decided to join. There is now a level
of commltment to weekly atterKlance that we have rnt seen n recent years which is growing a
deeper level of5Piritual maturity. Among ihe leaders too. the new dBlle￿es after the pandemlc.
led to a renewal of focus. and agaln a 8MNX of suvice in leadershlp. that is not easy, t￿t Is bearitig
frult among the groups.
During 2022 we continued the estsblished pattern of baswig the Bible studies on the material
covered In the Sunday service. That meant ihe preathing team producing queslions alongslde the
sernion notes In advance. This ha5 generally been well received. and has the benefit of rootina the
teachlng In our lives in a way that is specifK to our life circumstances and our real Ilfe situation as a
church. The sharlng and wayer elements of the meeting continue to be important in deepening thls.

One ofthe aims as we move forward is to 8row a new generatlon ofconnect grthjp knders. and I
thlnk 2022 has t*gun to lay the foundatK)n lor that to happen organically thro￿ the groups. but

The total held In Restrfcted Funds was £15,390 by the end of 2022. Around 75% of thls sum is
accounted for by donatlons to create the p051tion of Chlldren's Pastor.
9. Reserves pollcy
The PCC has a target figure of £20.IJOO for its General Fund ¢ontln8enry reserve. The prlmary
purpose of thSs reserve Is to smooth out cash Ilow fluctuations and to help meet emer8encies.
Total unrestrlcted reserrfes reduced from £48,178 at the start of 2022 to £37,625 by ihe end of the
year. This Is stlll well In exce55 of the PCC target for the General Fund Reserves.
10. 8ulldln85
The latest Qulnquennlal Inspectlon of the church building was urried out in June 2019. The
resultinB report Identified a small number of areas requiring Immedlate attention, costlne In the
region of £IO,WO excluding fees and VAT. The most slgnificant of these wa5 the replacement of
structural members to two roof trusses, and minor stabilisailon work io the remainder. These works
were orlglnally programmed to be carried out during 2020121. bul this was not posslble a5 a result
of the Covld lockdown and the Impact of this upon the church's financlal position. At its meeting in
November 2021. the PCC made provls5on for the works to be funded from the 2022 budget. The
work was finally earried out by Robinsons PreseNation Ltd in September and October 2022. A grant
application was provi5i0nally approved by the Natlonal Churches Twst ol £3250 which was SIYA of
Ihe orlglnal quote recelved. Due io the delay from Covld the final cost was slightly greater than
orl8lnally antklpated, malnly due to the Increase In costs for raw materfals.
After dlscussknls wlth the dioose the PCC declded to sell St. Alban's. We hope to complete the sale
In the first half of 2023.
The Church Centre was ￿deCOrated forthe first tlme since Its opening approxlmately 10 years earller
over the sufflmer of 2022 by a small group of hardworking volunteers, This kept the costs down and
has helped to keep the bulldlng looking good for all those that use It.
11. Structure. governan￿ and management
11.1 Parochlal Church c￿￿¢11 IPCC)
Members of the PCC are either ex-officlo or elected at the Annual Parochlal Church Meetln8 {APCMI
In accordance wlth the Church Representation Rule5. The PCC conslsts of the incumbent {PCC Chalr},'
Assoclate Mlnlster Ill￿nsed lay worker),. Ilcensèd lay reader Inow confirmed each year at the
APCMI: churchwardens; deanery synod members and twelve elected members. In addition. the
Parlsh Safeguardlng Co￿rdInal0r IPSC) was Co￿pted to the PCC in Aprll 2021 and agaln In April
2022. The PCC Secretary ch•n8ed In April 2022. the new secietary was also Co￿0Pted to the PCC on
appointment.
All those who seek election to the PCC shoukl also be wllllng to serve as a member of a PCC 5ub-
Group.
PCC members are responslble for mèkin8 decislons on all matters of general concern and
Importance to the parlsh, includln8 decldlng on how the funds of the PCC are to be spent.

Assoclate Mlnlster, amounted to £24,576. Contrlbutlons to hls personal pen51on scheme totalled
£2,458. He also recelved payments of £204.89 for travel and other expenses incurred In connectlon
wlth hls dutles as Auo¢lJte Mlnlster.
Slmllarly, Bethany Hlckson was recrulted as Chlldrert's Pastor and was subseq￿nt￿Y elected to the
PCC. In 2022, salary payments to Bethany totalled £13,000. ContrlbutKins to her penslon amounted
10 £1,300. She recelved no payments for expenses.
The Incumbent, Rev TIM Haves, received £771.44 In expenses payments.
