Structure, governance and management

The trustees have the power to appoint any person to be a trustee in accordance with the provisions of the Trust Deed. An appointed trustee holds office within the limits permitted by law.

Objectives and activities

The objective of the trust as set out in its governing document is to advance the religion of Islam and Islamic Culture.

Achievements and performance

The charity's main objective is to provide a place of worship, and to promote Islamic education and training. The charity has continued successfully in achieving its objectives by improving the facilities for daily prayers and other religious ceremonies.

Baitul Mukarram Jame Masjid is consistently working to provide more facilities for the local community.

Children Education

Baitul Mukarram Jame Masjid provides Islamic and Cultural education for children in a regular basis. Classes for adults on weekly basis.

Daily Prayers

Baitul Mukarram Jame Masjid and Islamic Cultural Centre has continued to expand in its congregational prayers throughout the 5 daily prayers.

Friday Prayer

Baitul Mukarram Jame Masjid and Islamic Cultural Centres biggest weekly congregational prayer day Friday, 200+ people must be accommodated at once.

Ramadan

In order to reflect the spiritual uplifting of the community, the Masjid tries it utmost to ensure that it provides a comfortable environment for worship. A small Iftar (breaking fast) meal is provided daily for those who wish to break their fast in the Masjid. Extra volunteers are brought in to manage the added numbers that come for the nightly Tarawee prayers, with attendees often filling all three floors. There is also provision made every year for brothers who wish to perform I’tikaf (seclusion) in the Masjid.

Due to the large number of attendees in the Masjid for the Tarawee prayers, short talks were delivered every night after the prayers.

Eid

From 2009, for both Eid’s, we were required to replicate each prayer 2 times. Each prayer was in English and Bengali.

Financial review

It is the policy of the charity to maintain unrestricted funds at a level which equate to approximately 12 months unrestricted expenditure. This provides sufficient funds to cover management and administration and support costs.

Statement of trustees' responsibilities

The trustees are responsible for preparing the annual report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice. Law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of charity's financial activities during the year and of its financial position at the end of the year. The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act.

They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
