Annual Report of the Torbay Methodist Circuit TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDING 31 AUGUST 2025 CHARITY 1134368 Objectives and Activities The objectives of the charity are.. Provision of public religious worship open to all., Promotion of prayer as a vital part of life,. provision of pastoral care to all that require it., Promotion of educa- tion and training in the Chnstian faith.. Support and nurturing worshipping communities,. promo- tion of faith based education and activity for the young. The circuit is composed of 5 Methodist churches, one joint Methodist l United Refomied church and one Christian community centre. Throughout the year we conb'nued our ministry of worship, prayer and Bible teaching. Achievements during the year The Torbay Methodist Circuit continues to help to sustain many community groups and makes differen in all sorts of areas. We host a Community Larder and Supermarket along with supporting food banks in the bay. Community coffee momings are very popular and warm spaces are a great asset. Alcoholics Anonymous and Slimming World groups are held weekly. Regular athvitses for children and young people are provided including brigades, children's music groups and a toddler group. Many community groups are grateful for our premises which are well maintained while safeguarding policies follow Methodist guidelines along with strategies which combine to give our own members, friends and the community, safe places to meet and enjoy time together. Financial Review As last year, income was lower than expenditure due to necessary and ongoing repairs to propety. The full annual accounts can be viewed on the relevant page of the Charity Commis- sion website. The Circuit Model Trust Fund is used as a reseNe fund to meet exigencies within the the njnning costs of the circuit and to provide individual churches with small grants to su port new initiatives. Total funds at the end of the year were £234,643 of which £52,519 were unrestricted and £182,124 We in the Model Trust Fund. Structure, Governance and Management The goveming document is laid out on the Charity Commission website. We are part of the Methodist Church in Britsin and the South West Peninsula Methodist District who offer some oversight of our govemance. The Circuit Meets'ng had 30 members acling as Trustees as of 31 August 2025. The current list of Trustees may be viewed on the Charity Commission Website. Other than the officers, who are on the body due to the position they hold, serving members are elected by local church members. The day-to-day management is exercised under the leadership team consisting of our two ministers. the Circuit Stewards, Property Secretary and Treasurer. The Circuit complies th the Safe-guarding requirements of the Methodist Church in Britain, this includes regular review of the policy, keeping training up to date and displaying relevant in- formation for all users of the various buildings wthin the Circuit.
Staffing Three staff were employed during the year= Rev Jeffrey Short {Superintendent Minister) full- time. Rev Andy Chislett-McDonald (Minister) part-time and Miss Annette Hinde (Circuit Admin- istratorl part-ts'me. Reference and Administrative Details The charity is known as the Torbay Methodist CiroJit, Charity Number 1134368. The list of Trustees is available on the Chanty Commission Website. The senior trustees at the year end were Rev Jeffry Short (Superintendent Minister), Rev Andy Chislett-McDonald (Minister) Circuit Stewards.. Mrs Christine Hargreaves, Mrs Sue Hamling and Mr John Barrett. Treas- urer.. Dr Alan Mcllhenny. The Property Secretsry position is currently vacant. The Charity is blessed by so many people giving their time and talents as well as financial giwng for the life of the circuit, each of our churches and in the community.
