The Poulton le Fylde Methodist Church Council (Council) had throughout the year ending 31[st] August 2021 the responsibility of working with its minister the Reverend Will Hunter in promoting the whole mission of the Church, pastoral, social and ecumenical. Our aims in Poulton-le-Fylde Methodist Church are that, as a church we will learn of and proclaim the love of God through our worship and fellowship, nurturing his disciples and making new followers; and through our work, witness and giving serve God in His mission for those in our community and wider world. ## **Worship and prayer** Due to Covid our face to face church services were suspended until Easter Sunday 2021 when we returned to worship in person. Prior to that date Sunday morning Zoom services were held attended by church members and members from other churches. Much work was done by the Covid Risk Assessment Group which met regularly throughout the year in order to ensure full implementation of the Government’s guidelines and to keep people safe. No Covid cases were transmitted in the church building as far as we know. From Easter 2021 we stopped posting the weekly worship notes to the sixty or so people who did not have internet connectivity, but a weekly newsletter was published for collection in church. Over 120 people now receive the newsletter by email. From Easter 2020 services have been live streamed on our Facebook page. This has been much appreciated and is continuing. Our Messy Church was held on line every month throughout the year. The Bible Study group met only occasionally on line but the members retained their friendship and support for one another though the difficult time. The church has an active prayer group which confidentially shared prayer requests with one another by email. ## **Spiritual and recreational fellowship groups** All these groups were suspended throughout the year ( Note – activities did return from Sep 2021 onwards) ## **Pastoral Care in the Church** The church has many pastoral visitors who are allocated to all Church Members to provide a listening ear and support in them in times of need. This activity continued throughout the year with many telephone calls being made rather than house visits. ## **Our church in Our Community** This was a difficult year as our activities were severely curtailed by the Covid pandemic, and community groups were unable to use our buildings. Our Church Coffee Shop remained closed throughout this period. ## **The Wider Church** We play an active part in Poulton Churches Together these activities ceased due to the pandemic. We are part of “The North Fylde Circuit of the Methodist Church” along with another five churches. This brings its challenges but also provides opportunities for sharing and mutual support. ## **Engagement with and support of mission in the wider world and local and national charities** Our Church continues to generously respond to the needs of those both locally and in the wider world. Fund raising activities were severely curtailed, nonetheless The Christmas Appeal raised £700 for Brian House and £700 was donated to Leprosy Mission. Other three figure sums were donated to All We Can and the Methodist World Mission Fund. ## **Safeguarding and GDPR** Full compliance with safeguarding training and certification was addressed throughout the period. There was a fundamental review of how we keep personal data secure and all church members were contacted and all data holders signed to confirm their adherence to the regulations ## **Looking forward** By August 2021 more people were starting to return to regular worship which was far removed from what we had been used to; there was no hymn singing, or live music and social distancing and mask wearing were mandatory. Decisions regarding the lifting of the restrictions and the recommencing of all our usual activities were eagerly anticipated by the end of Aug 2021 ## **Finance** Symbolically, the financial review again is last. The Financial Statements show a deficit of £10,517 in respect of the Unrestricted Funds Account, but this is after charging for roof and property repairs of £30,000. This deficit was expected and occurred because of reductions in our collections and rental income due to the Covid pandemic restrictions on worship and premises. However our financial position fortunately remains resilient and is improving as the church regains its activity. The Church’s Finance and Property Committee is fully aware of the ongoing financial challenges and continues to actively manage the implementation of its rolling five year budget. The Methodist Circuit of which we are a part have furloughed our share of their expenditure by £21,000, which was of great assistance during the Covid pandemic. Despite, all the challenges and restrictions our members freely and generously give of their time and talents, which was ably demonstrated by a Gift Day during the first weekend of the following year, which raised £16,800, which meant that we comply with The Methodist Church capital reserves policy. It is our policy to invest funds with the Trustees for Methodist Purposes (TMCP) and the Methodist Central Finance Board (CFB) and we were grateful that our Restricted and Endowment Funds regained the losses of the previous year.
