3.1 Investment pollcy and performance
To comply with Methodist Standing Orders. mo￿$ for lon8 tlme Irwe5tment are lod8ed with the
Trustees for Methodist Church Purposes ITMCPI. TMCP act5 a5 Custodian tWStee for all real estate
held by Dlstrlcts and for all large lover £20kl bequests and for the proceeds ot sale of any property
formerly owned by the Di5trlrt. These Sums are Invested In vnltlzed Investments or help on deposit.
The Investment return5 a￿ close to trackin6 Ihe movements in the FTSE IIX) index. The dep051t
Income mirrors the deposit rate5 available elsewhere. The Nottiryham & Derby Dlstrlct Trustees,
Investment pollcyls aliBned with that of the Central Flnance Board of the Methodist Church ICF81
and TMCP because these or8anlsations tske into consideration the social. envlronmental and
ethlcal consideratlons, both negatlvely and p0sl1fvÈ￿. that make investments suitable for the
Methodist Church.
Shortterm deposlts are lod8ed direCt￿wIth thecentral Finance 8oard ICF8).
There are no benchmarks for the experted returns or appreciatlon on investments at TMCP and
CF8. It IS the Dlstrirt's policy to manage the cash and investment reSoUr￿S of the District so that
rate of return on investment both by way of divldend and opital appretktion- Is obtained at least
as good a5 market rate considering the Distrirt's low appetite for risk

20: £494.8171. £1,466.811 of Income for the year related to the sale of three properties.
The properties came Into the Distrlct management due to the c105ure of clrcults and were
dlsp05ed of with the proceeds re Invested in accordaiKe with Methodist Church Standing Orders.
The Dlstrlct Properties, the Chairfs Manse and the Rr4er8reen Hub were professlonalty re￿lUed
during the year resultlng In a net loss on revaluation of £785.251.
The additional Income In the year from the sale of the properties enJbled the Distrirt to make
addltlonal grant payments

All funds are for use In the Dlstrlct vla 8rant5 and apwrttonments. The Trustees have aireed that
the level of general funds should ￿ present 6 months net expendlture.
The Trustees are aware that the current of reserves exceed5 thb5 le¥el and w511 contlnue to
db5trlbute excess reser4es by miking grant payments.
3.3 Collabofatlve arrangements wth connected charltles
The Olstrict's main source of funding was the assessments obtsined from each arcult within the
Dlstrlct based on the staffin8 levels of the Clrcult and this was used to defray most of the cost of
adminlsterin8 the Oi5trict. Thls sum amounted In ihe year to £116k,12019120 £IOlkl
The Dlstrltt a150 obtair￿d from eath Clrcuit. with a reserve known as a tircuit Model Trust Fund
{CMTFI a re￿ based on the balance of the CMTF at the start of the Connemional year.
The Oistrict ￿kIS rK> funds as Custodian trustee. It doe5 however* quarterty receive from Clrcults
wlthln the Di5trirt, the Circuits contribution to the Methodist Church IMCFI. These sums are
collected as agent for the MCF and a￿ passed to the MCF later in the samÈ quarter. Funds received
by the 0Sstrict a5 a8ent a￿ not recognlzed as an a55et in the financial statements because the
funds are not within its control. No fee is earned In respect of thls agency arrangement and the
District incurs no cost through thi5 arra￿geMent.

4. Tru5tees' responslbilities
The trustees are responsible for preparfngthe Trustees. Annual Report and the financial
Statements In accordance wilh applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Stondards (United
Klngdom fjenerally Accepted Accountin8 Practice).
The law applicable to charities in England & Wales requires the trurtees to prepare financial
statements for each financlal year which give a true and falr vbew of the state of affalr5 of the
charrty and of the Incomln8 resourtes and appllcatlon of resource5 of the charity for that period.

the assets of the charlty and hente for taklnq reasonable steps for the preventlon and detectlon

5 Strurturei 8o¥ern•iice and m•nwement
The Distrirt Is an unincorporated associatlon and is 8o¥emed by the Methodlst Church 1976.
the Deed of Union and the Model Trust Deeds of the Methodlst Church and was wlstered wlth
the Charity commiss￿nerS Qn 8 Feb￿￿ry 2010.
5.1 Structure
Qrcuits are the coordinatlng chaflties for local 8roups of Chwches: Circults pay the 5tlpends of
the ministers and employ lay staff to 5erye the Churctr*s in the Circuii- most declslons are made
at and ratified by the periodic Clrcuit Meetin8. A District is the coordinatlnB charity for a group of
contiguous Circuits and makes its decisions at half yearly Synods. The Method15t Conference
meets once each year as the Supreme derKMninatlonal body for all Methodist Churches.
Overall regulatory authority rests with the Methodist ConfererKe.
The Connexional oifice implements decisions made by Conference and is a150 resw)nsible for the
stationing of presbyters and deacons (ColleciNe￿ known as ministers) in individual Circuits within
the District.

Connexional decisions are passed to the Chair of Distrlct and the approprlate officer5 of the
Dlstrict for implementation.
The Distr5ct pa55es control down to tircuit lerfel for local implementatlon by the Superintendent
Minister, mlnisterlal staff and Corcuit Stewards, and authority is delegated to the Circuit Meetin
for certain mattÈrs.
The Circult Meetin8 passes re8ulatory control down to Church Counclls for local Implementstlon
by the p￿$bYter. the Church Stewards, and other officers. and this regulatory authority is then
exerclsed by Churth Counci15 a5 Managlng Trustees of their charlty.
5.2 Purpose of the Dlstrlrt
