**WEST KIRBY METHODIST CHURCH TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT TO CHARITY COMMISSION FOR THE YEAR 1[st] SEPTEMBER 2019 TO 31[st] AUGUST 2020** We began the year by welcoming our new minister Rev Yangsun Yi who was born in South Korea but has lived in the UK for many years. We opened our doors to the public for two days in September as part of the of the National Heritage Open Days Scheme. We set up an exhibition chronicling the history of the church highlighting interesting facts about the church including well known figures from politics and the second world war. Also, in September we started up a Shared Reading Group which is a way of connecting people with their own thoughts as well as those of others when discussing a book or poem they have read. At the Harvest Supper in October over 60 people enjoyed a meal and were entertained by a magician who amazed his audience with his tricks and well as making people laugh. In December we held a concert entitled “A Christmas Medley” including music, stories, carols and more with proceeds going to local charities. We began 2020 by welcoming our new Church Administrator who would be the first point of contact for all general enquiries and be responsible for room bookings. Further to our connection with Asylum Link Merseyside, in March we held a fundraising evening entitled Route to Europe in conjunction with Churches Together in West Kirby. We heard stories from asylum seekers and enjoyed their music and songs. At the time little did we know that this would be last fundraising event for the next 12 months at least as the country went into its first lockdown due to the Corona Virus Pandemic. The church closed its doors to worship and all other activities from the 22[nd] March 2020. All planned services, meetings etc. were cancelled until restrictions were lifted. Since March 2020 we have kept in touch with the congregation by phone, letter or email and many joined zoom services each Sunday and church committee meetings were also held on zoom. It has also been possible for our Minister and our Community Development Worker to call on those in our congregation who live alone or are self-isolating to deliver flowers or offer words of comfort on their doorstep. When lockdown restrictions were lifted in July 2020 the church agreed to take such steps necessary to prepare to reopen the church for worship in September. To do this we had to complete a risk assessment, ensure the premises were covid secure and that everyone entering should hand sanitise, wear a mask and observe social distancing. N.B. At the time of writing this report the country has recently emerged from a third lockdown and West Kirby Methodist Church reopened for worship on the 3[rd] May 2021.
