: Team Rector's Report
I joined the Seven Saints team in November 2024 when I was licensed in the parish. Advent is such a beautiful time to begin a new chapter in ministry — a season rich with meaning as we await the birth of Jesus Christ. It’s a time full of celebration and activity, yes, but also a time of great expectation and hope, which so fittingly mirrors the atmosphere of starting somewhere new. It felt right to step into parish life during a season so focused on light, promise, and renewal.
During that first Advent, I had the privilege of being invited to school worships and nativity performances. There’s something incredibly humbling about watching children tell the Christmas story with such honesty and joy. I also had the opportunity to visit some of the local care providers who support our elderly residents in Farnworth — spaces of quiet dedication and deep care. These early experiences helped ground me in the parish and gave me a glimpse into the richness of this community.
I also began to worship regularly with the church family. It was a gift to simply be among you — listening, learning, and beginning to understand the heartbeat of Seven Saints. From the very beginning, I have felt welcomed and supported, and I’m deeply grateful for that.
The transition from my previous parish to Seven Saints has been something of a whirlwind — full of learning curves, new names, different rhythms, and unexpected blessings. I’m still learning (and probably always will be), still finding my feet, and still discovering the gifts and challenges that make this place unique. One of the most encouraging things I’ve witnessed is how this church family journeyed through the interregnum with such faithfulness. The way you continued to worship, serve, and grow in that time is a testament to the strength and depth of this community.
As with any time of transition, building trust and forming new relationships takes time. It doesn’t happen overnight. But over the last four months, I’ve started to find my bearings and settle into the rhythm of life here. I’ve particularly loved becoming more involved with the schools in the parish. The ministry that takes place there is joy-filled and energising — a space where faith is shared freely and with great enthusiasm. Children and young people have such a fresh and powerful perspective on God, and it’s a privilege to walk alongside them in their journey.
Pastoral ministry has also been deeply moving. I’ve had the honour of connecting with members of the congregation who are no longer able to attend church in person, and I’ve started to build relationships with others who form the core of our worshipping community. These connections — whether in hospitals, homes, or quiet conversations after services — are at the heart of what it means to be church together.
Before sitting down to write this report, I re-read the parish profile and was especially struck by one of the four bullet points describing the kind of priest the team was hoping for:
“With a heart for service, you will be dedicated to both the spiritual wellbeing of our congregation and meaningful outreach to the broader community.”
This line really resonated with me. At the core of my calling — as a priest and as a follower of Christ — is service. That service can take many forms: preaching, leading worship, pastoral care, outreach, prayer, and simply showing up with compassion. But in all its forms, service is how I try to glorify God — by reflecting His splendour, wonder, and love in everything I do.
This service happens during Sunday mornings, at Messy Church, through collective worship in schools, or in confirmation groups. But it also happens in much smaller, quieter ways — in every conversation, every visit, every moment of presence in the community. Whether I’m in a shop, walking through Farnworth, or speaking to someone I meet on the street, I try to carry with me the sense that every interaction is an opportunity to reflect the love of God. The call to serve is also the call to be a visible presence — not just in the church, but in the everyday life of the parish.
3 | P a g e
It’s a high calling — and at times, it can feel like a lot to live up to. But I’m not doing this alone. With God’s help, the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and the faithful prayers and support of this community, I trust that the work we’re beginning will grow and bear fruit.
Looking ahead, the next twelve months will be a time of continued listening, building, and planting. I want to continue getting to know each of our congregations more deeply, while also engaging more widely with the community. There’s so much potential here — and so much already happening — but I believe there’s even more we can do together as we grow in faith and mission.
It will also be a time to begin discerning how we, as a church, want to grow. Growth can take many shapes: deepening our spiritual lives, welcoming new people, or developing new areas of ministry. One key area I hope to focus on is leadership — encouraging and supporting new church leaders, lay volunteers, and those feeling called to serve in new ways. Over the next 24 months, I would love to see Authorized Lay Ministers becoming part of our team, bringing fresh energy and diverse gifts to our shared ministry.
Another area I hope to explore more is how we tell the story of our faith — both inside the church and beyond its walls. How do we share our love for Jesus in a way that connects with people’s lives today? How do we become a place of welcome for those who have questions, doubts, or hurts? How do we make space for creativity, honesty, and hope in all that we do?
In all of this, I am excited — not just about what I can bring, but about what we can discover together. Because ministry is never a solo journey. It is something we build, nurture, and grow as the body of Christ — rooted in prayer, guided by Scripture, and strengthened by love.
Thank you for welcoming me so warmly into this community. I feel incredibly blessed to be walking this journey with you.
In hope and faith,

Seven Saints PCC Treasurers Report year ending 31 December 2024
2024 has seen a continuation of the changes in the services offered with monthly team services and reduced Thursday night youth services, and the appointment of Rev Andy Jones in November, all of which whilst injecting new vigour into our Sunday Services and Messy Church have had a negative impact on finances and seen another year of reduction in income.
2024 saw us renegotiate the Parish Share with the diocese and this resulted in us paying 100% of the share - £ 24150 whereas 2023 saw us pay 74.4% of an increased share of £30899.88 (£23000). We also qualified for a reduction of 2% in 2025 because of meeting the payment requirements for the encouragement scheme.
Income for 2024 was £59191 (£69479) which is a reduction of £10288 (£5585.) Giving for 2024 is £ 38300 (£40019) which is down £1719 (£5447) on last year reflecting the reduced number of services and loss of generous givers.
We now administer our own Gift Aid claims, and we received £7482 (£7431) Although giving is down gift aid is higher as giving for Q4 2023 is included in this figure – 5 quarters.
5 | P a g e
Expenditure for 2024 was £66247 (£77810) which is £11563 down on last year this reflects during 2024 we did not pay for the clergy property and reduced cost of living pressures including reduced utilities costs.
Despite reduced expenditure our expenditure was £7056 (£8331) more than our income and this position of spending more than we have coming in .is not sustainable.
The balance on accounts at end of the year is £97767 (£104733) and needs to be viewed in terms of funds still held for the special projects such as Job Club and the Heritage Fund rather than funds available for use by the Parish and the continued unusable funds held for St James Graveyard.
There are currently no liabilities outstanding.
We continue to try to have funds restricted for the Graveyard at St James’s released for use in the Parish totalling £26414 (£26249).
Note to the accounts accounting error in 2019 failed to show £24.33 of petty cash held by St Catherine’s to resolve this a fund showing a debit balance of this amount is shown in the accounts – there is no petty cash held now and this is a correcting entry on a funds basis and does not impact Bank Account balances and is carried forward into 2024.
It should be noted that the accounting system Expense Plus started in 2019 is proving to be very helpful and we have seen the benefit of this system this year in delivering the accounts more efficiently. I would like to record the Parish thanks to all the Treasurers and the Gift Aid Secretary who work tirelessly to ensure the financial running of the Parish.
Lesley Durosomo PCC Treasurer.

: Buildings and Fabric Report
All three churches have been well supported by congregation members in the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of the buildings and grounds. At a recent PCC meeting, it was suggested that rotating working parties could be established to help address minor repairs and cleaning tasks as they arise.
As always, regular maintenance and monitoring are essential—from PAT testing to addressing items highlighted in the quinquennial reports. Thanks to the many volunteers who give their time, these responsibilities are often supported by congregation members when appointments or works need to be carried out. The support provided is deeply appreciated by all three churches.
7 | P a g e
One proposal put forward is for each church to maintain an itinerary of outstanding work. This would allow tasks to be reviewed, prioritised, and addressed based on urgency and severity.
Two of the churches currently have ongoing external hire arrangements in place, which contribute both to financial sustainability and community engagement.
The churchyard at St Michael’s has also benefited greatly from the efforts of the Community Payback Team, who have completed excellent work in maintaining the graveyard and surrounding environment.
At the time of this report's submission, no concerns or issues have been raised for inclusion.
: Health & Safety Report
At time of writing this report no issues from health and safety to report from all three churches in 2024/25
: Deanery Synod Report
The Deanery Synod, a formal gathering of representatives elected from
every parish for sharing information and discussion across the Deanery.
The Synod can look at issues raised by the national Church, by the Diocese, and by
PCCs at a local level.
In Bolton our Deanery Synod has a policy of looking at key issues and themes in
its four meetings across the year.
In recent years we have had presentations and discussions on:
Closing Churches – How, Why and Who Growing our Churches Clergy Vacancies, Deployment and the Diocesan Vision
Children, Families and Schools
New mission ideas – Talkin’ Tables and other projects in our Mission
Communities
Parish Share and the Discussion and Agreement Process
Safe Families and Home For Good – support for vulnerable young people
The Emerging Strategy for the Diocese 2025-2030
The Deanery synod is a key function in connectivity with the churches in the deanery but also to be informed of local and national initiatives and issues
Page 9: Safeguarding
The Seven Saint Team of churches are committed to safeguarding children and young people, vulnerable adults and those in abusive relationships. We aim to create safe environments, where children and young people are nurtured and protected; and where all people, and especially those who may be vulnerable for any reason, are able to worship and pursue their faith journey with encouragement and in safety.
Safeguarding Officers: Deb Lyons & Lesley Durosomo

All PCC members have up to date DBS clearance and all members have accessed basic safeguarding training the majority of the PCC have completed the Basic Awareness training provided by the diocese safeguarding team.
Each church has a pack of safeguarding notices displayed on the church notice board including the Safer Church Poster & Who’s Who details.
Our Seven Saints website displays our Safeguarding policy alongside a range of other documents and possible support agencies should people have concerns or need to seek support.
There have been no reported safeguarding concerns throughout this year.

This is especially present on the Thursday evening worship which is family focussed and has grown in congregation numbers Our liturgy follows Common Worship and is presented using PowerPoint, with recorded hymns and worship music enhancing our time of worship.
With the worship being from methodist and Anglian ministers the breadth of worship is exciting and takes different focus through out the year for example the covenant service which takes place in January.
A Filipino Church (Lord Jesus Our Redeemer Church) meet at St Catherine's on a Sunday afternoon. There has been a long standing Tuesday friendly hour which has been a source of support and fellowship in the community.

Once a month messy church takes place in the church and the church hall with volunteers from across the team supporting this has been a thriving ministry and enjoyed by families and volunteers.
The mustard’s seed church meets out of the church on Sunday afternoons and some Saturdays and there have been in recent months an increase in church hire from external sources and in such growing in community engagement

-
Fourth & Fifth Sundays: Anglican-led Worship.
We welcome both long-standing congregational members and new families exploring faith. Service booklets featuring liturgy from Common Worship are used, with recorded music for hymns, and new worship songs have been introduced. St. Michael's regularly welcomes Sunday attendance from school staff, who actively participate in the service.
Annual Memorial Service for those people in the wider community who have lost loved ones held at the beginning of Advent.
On Remembrance Sunday we assemble at the Great Lever memorial situated in our churchyard for prayers and wreath laying. There are a number of war graves at St Michael’s. Our Primary School also holds a short remembrance service at the memorial. Our organist, Nicola White, plays at two services per month. Links with local care home
We feel it is an important part of our mission to reach out to the wider community in our area. As such, Margaret Brockie established a very worthwhile link with a local care home this year and makes regular visits for prayer time and fellowship.
Eco church
We continue to maintain our Churchyard Conservation Project. Our beautiful four-acre churchyard is full of mature trees and wildflowers. We feel that we can offer the local
community a small oasis to appreciate the natural world and a quite place for reflection. We are registered as an Eco Church with A Rocha (Silver Award).
In July we held a special Eco church service of the Word with Bible readings, intersessions and hymns on the theme of Creation. Refreshments were then served outside! Kathryn Fox took part in an online carbon awareness training session led by Canon Grace Thomas.
Churchyard
The churchyard remains open for burials.
For the past few months, groups from the Community Payback scheme have been working in the churchyard most Fridays. This is a service which costs nothing to ourselves other than providing the groups with rest and refreshment facilities. We have been delighted with the work done over the winter. Sweeping up mountains of fallen leaves and clearing the drive and paths have made an enormous difference to the appearance and safety of the churchyard. We have had many positive comments and it has given us another opportunity to show that we are a welcoming community.
: Messy Church
10 | P a g e
We have a thriving, lay volunteer-led Messy Church service that takes place on the third Saturday of every month at St George’s . There continues to be a core group of regular attendees, alongside some new families who have recently started coming to the Saturday morning sessions.
Recent themes have included Heroes of the Bible , Love Your School , and an Easter Focus . Each session includes a mix of craft activities, worship, and shared food. The families who attend have all given positive feedback about their experience, and the atmosphere remains welcoming and engaging.
The Messy Church team has also started a scrapbook to capture the activities from each month. This will include both written and pictorial content, and a copy will be placed in each church to showcase the focus and highlights of each session.
Messy Church could not take place without the dedication of our wonderful volunteers, who give so much of their time and energy—not just during the sessions, but also in the planning and preparation that happens throughout the month.
: Friendly Hour & Mother Union – St Catherine’s
Every Tuesday there is Friendly Hour at St Catherine's. It has around 15-20 attenders who are mostly retired and hosts a variety of speakers with a hymn and a prayer followed by refreshments.
The Mothers' Union group who meet once a month who will be admitting two new members in May. The mothers union are active in outreach work with initiates as putting together back packs for the local domestic violence refuge, collect toiletries for people released from prison, the homeless. also providing premature baby bonnets to the local hospital for the neonatal ICU. The mothers union is always open and welcome to new members

St James' Primary School
The Team Rector, Andy, has built some positive links with St James' Primary School and is now regularly visiting to lead collective worship. During Ash Wednesday, he also led the imposition of ashes with the Year 6 students.
The first Café Church took place in April, with support from the Changing Places team. Children and families responded enthusiastically to both the worship and activities, and this initiative will continue into the summer term.
In addition, the Team Rector will soon be taking up the role of Chair of Governors at the school. Collective worship, school visits, and close collaboration with the Headteacher and Head of Religious Education will continue, with the aim of further strengthening the relationship between the church and school.
St Simon and St Jude's Primary School
St Simon and St Jude's were very welcoming in introducing the new Team Rector to the school, and relationships are beginning to grow. Collective worship will begin during the summer term.
Soon after his appointment, the Team Rector joined Debs and Lyons in supporting the school through their SIAMS inspection. This is an exciting opportunity to build new connections and develop the partnership between church and school.
St James' High School
At St James' High School, initial links have been made between the Chaplaincy Team and the new Team Rector. Early work has included student focus groups with a view to setting up a mentorship program in the near future. This project is still in its early stages, with more detail to follow next year.
The focus for the summer term will be to strengthen relationships and provide meaningful support for both staff and students from a church perspective.
The Orchards
The Team Rector had the privilege of leading Christingle worship with 120 Year 3 and Year 4 students from The Orchards School. It was a joyful occasion and another example of deepening relationships between the church and local schools.
