Winchmore Hill Baptist Church
Annual Report 2021
Introduction
The Annual Report has been prepared by the trustees to give an account of the Church’s activities during 2021 to the membership. It also fulfils the Church’s legal requirement to submit an Annual Report to the Charity Commission. The report is divided into two parts:
Part 1 describes how the Church is organised and financed and gives details of the activities that are normally undertaken by the Church in fulfilling its charitable objective. This part is quite formal as much of the information is legally required to be included in the report.
Part 2 describes the activities and events that have taken place during 2021 and is much less formal. It aims to give a picture of the life of the Church and contributions have been included from a large number of people.

PART 1
Structure, Governance and Management
The charity is an unincorporated association governed by an Approved Governing Document (known as the “Constitution”) which was adopted on 6[th] December 2009. The rules for the election of trustees and appointment of members are given in the Constitution.
The trustees are the minister, secretary, treasurer and a number of deacons. All of these are appointed by the Church Members’ Meeting. The minister is a permanent employee of the Church. The remaining trustees are elected from amongst the membership and receive no remuneration.
The trustees meet monthly and are responsible for the day to day running of the Church’s work and witness and the financial and legal aspects of the charity. Relevant matters may be submitted to the Church Members’ Meeting for guidance or may be raised by members for further consideration by the trustees.
The Church Members’ Meeting has responsibility for the overall policy of the Church. There were 6 scheduled meetings in 2021 (including the Annual General Meeting).
All members are encouraged to take an appropriate part in the spiritual and practical tasks involved in the furtherance of the charitable objective. New members are enrolled by agreement of the Church Meeting, normally after baptism by immersion upon personal profession of faith, though members may be accepted based on their own public profession of faith.
The job of managing the Church’s finances is carried out by the Finance Committee (led by the Treasurer), whose responsibilities include paying the Church’s bills and salaries, keeping financial records, and preparing the accounts. A team of cashiers counts and

records the money received from weekly offerings and pays it into the bank.
Appointment of Trustees
At the Annual General Meeting on 27[th] March 2021 John Burridge was elected as Treasurer, Barbara Richardson as Secretary; Inez Collins, Carolyn Kindberg and Basma Stone as Deacons for a three year terms.
Objectives and Activities
The principal purpose of the Church is the advancement of the Christian faith according to the principles of the Baptist denomination. The Church may also advance education and carry out other charitable purposes in the United Kingdom and/or other parts of the world .
In fulfilling this purpose, the Church aims to engage in activities including:
-
Regular public worship, prayer, Bible study, preaching and teaching
-
Baptism, as defined in the Baptist Union’s declaration of principle
-
The Communion of the Lord’s Supper
-
Evangelism and mission, locally, regionally, nationally and internationally
-
The teaching, inclusion, welcome and encouragement of young people
-
Nurture and growth of Christian disciples
-
Education and training for Christian and community service
-
Giving and encouraging pastoral care
5

-
Supporting and encouraging charitable social action in the United Kingdom and abroad.
-
Encouraging relationships with and supporting Baptists and other Christians.
Central to the work and witness of the Church is the provision of regular services of Christian worship. These services take place each Sunday at 10.30am and occasionally at other times. All services are open to the public and the times are advertised on the Church’s notice board and on the internet. Members of the
congregation are encouraged to invite their friends and relatives. Additional publicity is distributed for our special services at Christmas and Easter. There is no charge to attend any worship service.
With continued restrictions due to Covid 19, during the year some services were held only via Zoom and other activities were stopped or likewise took place on Zoom. Most children’s activities continued and some activities have been made more available through the use of Zoom. We continued to operate services on Zoom, even after lockdown restrictions were lifted and will keep our use of Zoom under review as we move forward.
The Church has a close relationship with the Boys’ Brigade and Girls’ Association and provides free use of the premises for their activities as well as hosting a number of joint events.
The minister, who is a paid employee of the Church, is responsible for leading and co-ordinating the Church’s activities including the Sunday services, providing pastoral care for the congregation and other people, and equipping and encouraging the membership in their life, Christian witness and service.

Winchmore Hill Baptist Church
Annual Report 2021
All of the remaining work necessary for the operation of the Church is carried out by volunteers, including organisation of and participation in activities, cleaning, preparation and maintenance of the premises, administration, pastoral visits and prayer. A list of all those who carry out this work is given in the document ‘Positions of Responsibility’. Many of those who organise activities have written their own account of them and these have been compiled together in part 2 of this report.
The Church provides financial and prayer support to organisations working for the advancement of the Christian faith in the United Kingdom and abroad. These include members of the Church who are working as missionaries in the Far East and South Africa. The Church is a member of the Baptist Union of Great Britain and the London Baptist Association and supports other Baptist churches through contributions to the Home Mission fund. The Church also supports the local education charity Pathway and is a member of Churches Together in Palmers Green, Winchmore Hill and Grange Park , through which it participates in activities with other churches in the area.
Public Benefit
The trustees are aware of the guidance on public benefit published by the Charity Commission and we believe that the activities of the Church which are described above, as well as the buildings, provide significant public benefit in line with that guidance. It has always been the desire of the Church to reach as many people as possible in our community with the Christian message and to welcome new faces into our fellowship.

Annual Report 2021
Financial Review
The church has a reserves policy agreed by the trustees and the Church Members’ Meeting, which remains as approved in November 2018. However, the church does not hold a designated Reserves Fund. Any surplus funds are kept in the General Fund. The policy dictates we retain a minimum of six months all expenditure plus a further £10,000 to allow for emergency building repairs. Based on budgeted levels of expenditure this equates to around £50,000. The church’s portion of the employer debt on the Baptist pension scheme is in addition to this and is estimated to be £19,600 as at 20/12/21.
General Fund
We are thankful to Church Members, those in the congregation and other supporters of the work of the church for their generosity. Including the tax recovered on donations, those individuals provided approximately 85% of receipts in the year and whilst receipts are not back to pre-pandemic levels, we are grateful that we have seen increases in 2021. As part of this, loose offerings increased in the year but are still only 53% of pre-pandemic levels, perhaps reflecting the lower numbers attending church services in person. The amount of reclaimed tax, through Gift Aid etc., decreased slightly.
Receipts from hiring out church premises is recovering well following the restrictions of the pandemic but there was a drop in the amount received from the Captain Pierce Johns Trust. Once again, the General Fund benefited from over £3,500 raised through the ThankOffering.
The percentage split of all payments under the General Fund is as follows:-
-
Appointment of a minister & associated cost 50%
-
• Mission, mostly donations to others work 24% • Premises insurance, upkeep (heating etc) and maintenance 24% • Organisation 2%
8
Winchmore Hill Baptist Church
Annual Report 2021
Overall, total receipts increased by 3% and total payments, excluding the transfer to the Buildings Fund fell by almost 2%, largely due to the reduced church donation to world mission.
With the budgeted £4,000 transfer to the Buildings Fund, there was a deficit for the year of £3,135 for the General Fund, leaving a balance of £73,771. We can be thankful that the deficit is lower than in 2020 and that the balance covers our basic requirement for the reserve.
Buildings Fund
The trustees were reminded recently of the great asset we have in our buildings. As well as a meeting place for Sunday services, the church buildings provide a great base for our youth work as well as for external activities such as Care Hall Preschool, other local organisations and families who are able to hire them out at reasonable rates. The trustees have a duty to keep the building in an appropriate state of repair, to which there is clearly a cost.
In addition to the budgeted £4,000 transfer, we are thankful for a generous donation to our Buildings Fund in 2021 and for the fundraising activity.
Payments in the year were limited but the balance of £6,242 needs to be considered against a backcloth of our commitment, late in the year, to work on Carey Hall floor, as well as an ever-increasing list of maintenance and renewal items, both foreseen and unforeseen.
Other Funds
The Fellowship Fund continues to be adequately financed. This includes a 25% allocation of amounts received from the Captain Pierce Johns Trust, albeit reduced this year.
Our creditors include Operation Agri and BMS Home Mission, to whom we are due to disburse amounts donated and tax recovered
9
Winchmore Hill Baptist Church
Annual Report 2021
during the year. This includes £975 collected for Operation Agri during our Harvest celebration.
There was no movement on other funds.
Prompted by the independent inspection of accounts, the trustees are considering how we might reduce the number of funds accounted for, including possibly by combining those that are compatible.
The main concerns for the trustees are:-
-
In the eyes of the world we may be over-reliant on the continued support from individuals, including some who support us from a distance. Our confidence is in God’s provision through His people and our concern must be to continue to seek out and stay within the will of God, in whom we know we can trust.
-
Traditionally we have been a church that supports world mission and this continues to be the case. However, we also aspire to grow our own local mission and have budgeted a larger deficit in 2022 in faith. We are reliant on God to provide for us as we make ourselves available to work with Him.
-
The significant rising costs of heating and lighting the church buildings plus pressure on expenditure and we must examine ways to keep such cost under control.
-
Finally, we must continue to spend money wisely on buildings maintenance and other general costs.
We continue to look to the Lord to inspire and guide us and provide all we need to be an effective part of His work, to see His Kingdom come and His will be done.

Ministers Report Pastor Ebenezer Boayke
Looking Back
2021 was not very different from 2020. For me, these past years with the Covid-19 storm has caused many to rethink life and priorities. This is something we should, in the months and years ahead, continue to wrestle with as a church and as individuals. It’s been one of the hardest years of our lives for many of us. There are those still grieving the loss of loved ones, opportunities, freedom, and security; many of us are still recovering from the shock of it and trying to adapt into the new world.
The theme for 2021 was the “God of the impossible” (Ex 14:21), which is about knowing that there is nothing too difficult for our God. We can trust Him to see us through the challenges and difficulties that come our way. By getting our teeth into the theme, our faith was challenged, and lives were transformed. We’ve seen the supernatural hand of God supplying our needs. Having emerged from dire circumstances of church attendance decline, crisis, threatened closure, or spiritual tedium means that indeed He’s the “God of the impossible” and we are moving from despair to hope through the Kingdom of God. We were able to hold our traditional activities, such as deacon and Church meetings as well as our Church Anniversary, Thanksgiving, Operation Agri, Harvest, AGM, etc.
11
Annual Report 2021
Winchmore Hill Baptist Church
In addition to that, we also organised “Leadership Training” day for the deacons. Our guest speaker was LB Regional Minister Rev Winston Bygrave who spoke on the theme; “How to lead a healthy church through clear vision and good leadership”. The training focused on mentoring the deaconate and enhancing our competencies, giftings, and discipleship with a renewed passion for service to God and people.
There is much to give thanks for and celebrate because, we’ve sailed through the Covid storms and are still standing as a church. This shows that we are overcomers. God has shown us His mercy and grace by giving the Church family the opportunity to be able to keep gathering around His Word to pray and encourage one another on Sundays and weekdays.
Sunday Services
The pandemic affected people in diverse ways including relation to church attendance, yet despite these fluctuations WHBC continuously held church services both on online and in-person. We met every Sunday where worship and praises were sung, prayers were offered, sacraments administered, the scriptures were read, expounded, and applied. A big thank you goes to our musicians, who in spite of limited resources, occasionally led us in live musical worship. A special mention should be made of our PA and Door teams and all those who were involved in the service and
12
Annual Report 2021
Winchmore Hill Baptist Church
demonstrated a high level of commitment which has sustained our Sunday services. Members of the congregation also led prayers, read Scriptures, led biblical reflections and more. Last year, we also saw some new people worshipping with us on Zoom and in person. This shows that even when we were just gathering online or in person with Covid restrictions, God has given us the opportunity to help people find Jesus.
Bible Studies
Bible studies continued weekly via Zoom. We worked through the “MasterLife” series material which comprises four books. We are almost finished book two (The Disciple's Personality) which we, so far, find very helpful in our spiritual growth and the call to faithful disciples of Christ. The maximum number of participants is eight machines. The effect has been amazing as we have seen people growing in discipleship and the Holy Spirit stirring up and encouraging them to lead some sessions. It is an exciting time as we meet exploring God's word, sharing, and praying together, all in ways that help us best connect our hearts with God's heart and learn that when partnered with Him, we are powerful and have a role in the kingdom. We hope these Bible classes will benefit us and help us find fresh perspectives on scripture and challenge us to make Christ the centre of our lives and put our faith into action in the world today.

Home Groups
God tells us to ‘consider how we may encourage one another towards love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the Day approaching’ (Heb 10:24). That means Home Groups is are primary pastoral care network of the Church, and Covid-19 has shown their value more than ever, as it has become the source of which church leaders and members connect and care for each other. Based on this, I have repeatedly mentioned the need for us to establish Home Groups either on Zoom or physical, because not only do home groups provide opportunities for believers to learn from each other as they apply the gospel within the intimacy of relationships, but it also helps to catch up with friends and make new ones. As we share and listen to stories, we learn how others are attempting to intersect the common life and the spiritual life. Therefore, we took a positive step by running “Life Explore”; a gospel-based study material which was hosted by Keith Richardson and Barbara Richardson. We aimed to move a step further by strengthening the group with new study materials. I believe the very thought of hosting non-family members can be intimidating. But as believers gather in homes for spiritual conversation and food, those present can witness hospitality blossoming from theory to practical Christianity.

Cry4Revival
As a church, we believe that nothing of lasting value happens unless it is birthed and sustained by prayer. Hence, we take prayer seriously as it is the breath of the church and the Christian life. We have seen significant improvement in our prayer meetings. We meet weekly alongside bible studies for prayers plus special days of prayer, i.e., fasting and prayers. It is worth noting that our ministry has committed prayer warriors and intercessors, and we deeply appreciate their commitment. As deacons, we value the importance of corporate prayer which lies in the power of united hearts. By Praying before God on behalf of one another and carrying each other’s burden, we fulfil the law of Christ. Such prayers have the effect of linking one another spiritually. As deacons, we have set aside once a month fervent prayer meeting. And we have seen a real deep intimacy and communion with God at His throne and are beginning to see a sense of God’s direction, vision, and purpose for WHBC.
Looking Forward
Looking to the future, we must all ask for the grace to be attentive to the continuing guidance of the Holy Spirit. I am personally asking for the grace to help others to step into leadership roles in the church’s life, to take a lead in our Sunday service, and in those areas of life where each of you live and where God is calling you to minister the

Gospel. I want to see people using their gifts and callings to regularly gather with a few who then look for ways to serve God in the church and in their communities.
Jeremiah told the exiles to multiply and not decrease. The young people in our faith community are the ones who will carry faith and hope into the future. They need our nurture and attention. Over the past year I have been reminded of how important it is to provide opportunities for our young people to grow in their understanding of the Christian faith. It’s also important to value them each as individuals. Making space for them in our worship life is now a significant priority for me.
Motto Text 2022
Our memory verse is Matthew 6:10 with a theme “Your Kingdom Come”. Our expectation this year is to see the Kingdom of God manifesting in the WHBC and in individual lives. I believe that as a church, by continuing reading and studying as much as possible of biblical stories about the Kingdom of God, we gain confidence in Christ that we are standing on solid grounds, gradually becoming a healthy church that exhibits Christian authenticity, and expressing an unwavering faith in God. The Kingdom message would prepare us to influence our communities with the Good News of Lord Jesus Christ and would also offer believers ways of living a discipleship life with passion and purpose. These Kingdom stories and teachings would
16
Winchmore Hill Baptist Church

renew and give a new sense of mission and identity, and an evangelistic strategy that would result in church growth.
Thank you to those who stepped up to help during the Covid period and thank you to all those who wrote letters and made phone calls to people behind the scenes. As we move ahead in 2022, I cannot predict the future, but what I do know is that things are not just spinning but God is still in control. What I do know is that we need to just take it one step at a time. What I do know is that as years pass, God’s people are going to need to step up and serve. We are a community of people who follow Jesus, cultivating our faith in God, planting seeds of the gospel, loving and serving our community. So let this be your calling; the church needs you. I look forward to journeying with you in 2022 and seeing where God leads us and believing God for positive things in our Church and in our community.

Secretary’s Report Barbara Richardson
Once again as for last year we have experienced a challenging year due to the ongoing Covid pandemic with meetings on Zoom and in the church building. As with the last year we have slightly delayed the date for the AGM following the indication that two of our existing deacons (Carolyn Greenaway and Paul Burt) have decided not to stand for re-election. Also, Carolyn Kindberg who was on the Diaconate also decided to stand down due to other mounting work commitments. Postponing the AGM for an additional week, thus enables the due process for nominations of any replacement or new deacons to be considered carefully and prayerfully by church members in accordance with the timetable laid out in the church constitution. I take this opportunity to thank Carolyn Greenaway and Paul Burt for their longstanding dedicated commitment as Deacons over many years and for Carolyn Kindberg for her service on the Diaconate, albeit for a limited time.
Our former member and long serving missionary Hazel March went to be the Lord in her home in August further reference which is made in the World Missions Report.
During the year, several longstanding members have moved away from Winchmore Hill and sadly are no longer able to worship with us. These were Andrew and Rachel Forster with Miriam, and Tim and Caroline Gillard. We are grateful that Caroline still helps with Girls Association work, especially as this requires a considerable journey from their new home in Lincolnshire. We take this opportunity to once again express condolences to Carolyn and the whole Gillard family on the passing of Caroline’s dad, David Button, who was a church member and worshipped with us for a number of years. During the year Millicent Cameron transferred her membership to Salim Baptist Church in Runaway Bay, St Annes, Jamaica and we were also pleased to see some church members who have moved away but have not formally transferred membership to another

church. Church membership currently stands at 47, with approximately 30 people in regular attendance either on zoom or in the church building.
We thank Derek and Serena in producing Spotlight throughout the year which is now distributed by email. We congratulate Derek and Serena on the birth of their daughter and were pleased to celebrate the dedication of Laila, on Sunday 22[nd] August.
During the year we were grateful to have several guest speakers, some of whom have come on a fairly regular basis. These include Keith Bentley, Innocent Udokporo and Winston Bygrave the London Regional Baptists Minister. We are grateful for all their input.
We are also grateful for the preaching ministry of Benne and her participation in WOW team, for all of which we are grateful to their contribution of worship. It has been a great blessing to be able to worship together in the church.
There are many other individuals to whom we are grateful for their contribution to church life, including church cleaning, building maintenance, room lettings, sound desk etc.
We give thanks to the Lord for all He is doing in our midst and for His ongoing work in the church, surrounding areas and around the world.

10[th] Enfield Boys’ Brigade & Girls’ Association Company – Chris Norman
Well, it’s been another year full of challenges as we have continued to navigate our way through the pandemic, although we have been able to do so much more than the previous year. What has been fantastic is that we have continued to see growth with nearly 50 children and young people engaging in our weekly activities across all age groups.
Whilst we have had to go online for some of our sessions earlier on in the year, we have mostly been back face to face over the last 12 months. Even with our virtual sessions we continued to see a good number of our members joining us online each week.
In the Summer months all age groups were able to get out and about and enjoy a range of offsite activities at the park, kayaking, raft building, playing foot golf and a whole lot more. After missing our annual Summer Camp in 2020 we were able to return to Norfolk with 7 of our boys as well as some young people from 3[rd] Enfield Company for our weeklong camp. The boys enjoyed a wide range of activities on camp including canoeing on the Norfolk Broads, Surfing in the Sea, a visit to Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park and a whole lot more.
In October we held our Enrolment Service which saw nearly 30 children and young people in Church along with a good number of parents. The young people were presented with their membership cards for the year and enrolled into the Company. At the service we also presented our Annual Awards recognizing the achievements of all the children and young people from over the last 12 months.
In early November a small group of our Seniors took a trip up to Alton Towers for their Firework Extravaganza, and as well as enjoying a day in the park and an amazing fireworks display, the
20
Winchmore Hill Baptist Church

group took to the Peak District to climb Thorpe Cloud and enjoy the surroundings of Dove Dale.
Our Christmas Trailer Collection got us out in the community in the run up to Christmas with our Company and Senior members helping to raise money for Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice as well as Company funds.
Our Fundraising at this current time is focused around raising sufficient funds to replace our minibus, which we no longer have due to the extension to the LEZ and ULEZ which came into force during the year. We are now embarked on a mission to raise what will be £000’s over the coming months to enable us to be able to replace the minibus as soon as possible.
Recently 9 Company/Senior members joined members from across Enfield on a Weekend Away at Felden Lodge. A great weekend was had by all, with a range of activities including archery, Top Golf, swimming, bonfire and quiz to mention just some of the activities. Our young people have also enjoyed events run by Enfield Battalion including a visit to Whipsnade Safari Park, a Superhero Themed Afternoon, Quiz & Pizza Night, Church Parade & Explore Event and Badminton Competition.
Of course, our weekly programmes and residentials include opportunities for us to share the good news and get into the Bible, reaching out to children and young people who otherwise wouldn’t come across the doorstep of the Church. We have continued to do this throughout the last 12 months and hope that through their journey with us, as leaders through the relationships we build and programme we offer that we may be able to plant the seed, that will one day bear fruit (Mark 4).
The Anchors age group meets on a Tuesday evening and continues to run a programme including games, crafts, devotions and other interests. The Anchors age group is led by Philip Norman and Tina

Stanley, with Chris Norman supporting them. There are currently 11 boys and girls in Anchors.
The remainder of the girls age groups (Juniors and Company) also meet on Tuesday evening, led by Jackie Norman and supported by Kevin Norman. There are currently 11 girls in this age group. On this note we would like to say a big thank you to Tim and Caroline Gillard for their continued support even after moving up to Lincolnshire in March 2021. Tim and Caroline have supported a number of events with the young people since moving as well as hosting our recent fundraising quiz, which helped raise a fantastic £550 for our minibus fund.
The boys Juniors age group meets on Thursday evening and the programme includes games, crafts, devotions and other interests. The Juniors age group is run by Chris Norman and Oliver Richardson assisted by Philip Norman and David Hann, there are currently 13 boys in this age group.
There are currently 12 boys in the Company Section and Seniors age groups meet on a Thursday evening and their programme includes games, crafts, devotions and other interests. This age group is led by David Hann and Chris Norman with Andrew Blunn, Philip Norman and Oliver Richardson assisting.
As well as all those leaders mentioned above, we also want to say a big thank you to Robin Baker, our Treasurer who behind the scenes support us in managing our finances. We are really grateful to Robin for all his hard work and support.
Our Vision is that Children and Young People experience ‘ life to the full ’ through coming to know Jesus for themselves (John 10:10). All that we do as a group is focused on this, having faith in young people, providing them with opportunities to learn, grow and discover in a safe, fun and caring environment which is rooted in the Christian Faith.

We would like to put out a special request for those that might be willing to offer some time to help with a specific activity. This could be leading a devotional time, or sharing a skill or hobby with the boys/girls.
Finally, we would like to say a special word of thanks to all those that support the young people and leaders throughout the year. We thank you for your time, thoughts and prayer in all that we do.

Churches Together in Palmers Green, Winchmore Hill, and Grange Park (CTPGWH+GP) – Report for 2021 Carin Blunn
The local Churches Together group in Palmers Green, Winchmore Hill and Grange Park provides opportunities for the different churches to worship, work, have fellowship and witness together.
The Churches Together Forum for the clergy and representatives was not able to formally meet during the various lockdowns but we kept in touch informally by email. Since then, it has been a slow start, probably due to people being busy in their own churches and we’ve had one meeting in September.
Although many of our activities were not able to take place as usual, we were still able to do some things. The year started, as usual, with the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity which begins with the Feast of St Peter on the 18[th] January and concludes on the 25[th] January with the Feast of St Paul. Each year churches from different countries around the world take turns to produce material around a theme relating to their situation to be used during the Week of Prayer. In 2021 the material was provided by the sisters of the Community of Grandchamp in Switzerland entitled “Abide in my love” which seemed aptly appropriate for living through the pandemic. We were not able to meet for prayer in each other’s buildings as we usually do but we were able to do so via Zoom.
The Homeless Winter Night Shelter, which usually runs from January to Easter, was not able to function in the usual way where up to twelve homeless people were offered a hot meal, a bed for the night and breakfast the following morning in one of the churches in the group. Instead, the organisation overseeing the Night Shelters in Harringay and Enfield, rented a house which could provide accommodation for six people in a Covid secure environment.
Due to lockdown, we were unable hold our usual Lent course or the March of Witness on Good Friday.

The Churches Together Prayer Meeting has continued to meet on the first and third Tuesday of each month to pray for the different churches and the needs of our area but like most meetings, at the moment, we meet on Zoom.
The position of chairperson is usually an annual appointment which rotates between the ministers of the different churches. As none of the clergy felt able to take on this responsibility at the present time, I volunteered for this position and was accepted at the September meeting.

Since the lockdown due to Covid, and the lifting of lockdown, the administrator has seized the opportunity to resume usual services.
Our last meeting held at United Reform church 3rd March 2022, was very promising due to the fact that we were able to meet for the second time face to face. Our administrator reported that she will be returning to the office sometime this month.

As ever, the Maintenance Committee (Philip Norman, John Burridge) and many others who contribute to repairs and upkeep of our buildings, have been busy over the last year.
We have continued to deal with the extra challenge of COVID-19, which has meant maintaining cleaning stations & sanitiser stations around the building.
During the year we noticed that birds had made a home in the roof of the main sanctuary.
Upon investigation we found that the exterior door vent had rotten away & fallen down which allowed the birds access to the roof spaces, we took the various measurements & Keith made a new door & parts of the frame to replace the old. We got together on a working day to erect a long ladder onto the organ loft roof & John & Keith went up & replaced the frame & door, also rehousing the birds nesting inside the roof.
Whilst up on the roof John also repaired part of the felt roofing to the organ loft area as it leaks for time to time. Thank you also to Richard, Chris, Eben, Barb & Jackie for helping on the workday taking on various tasks.
At the end of last year we had the issue with Carey Hall floor again where random parts of the floor lifted up due to dampness. We have had the effected areas sanded & refixed down, so the floor is safe to use. We are awaiting final recommendations as to which floor sealer to use, due to the fact we get the dampness in the floor.
Finally, thank-you to those who have made special donations to the Building fund over the last year. As a church we have agreed to spend money on our electrical systems. We are starting to identify parts of works which need to be carried out, we also need to continue to raise funds for these works. If you can help us financially, please speak to the Treasurer, if giving a specific

donation please state which project you would like to support or just state building fund and know that we are grateful for the funds that enable us to keep our buildings in good shape.
As usual, it is not possible to name everyone who has contributed to the maintenance and upkeep work – there are far too many – but, if you helped in whatever way, please know that you have our sincere thanks…. and of course, the work doesn’t end! If you are able to help in any way, whether it be decorating, DIY or cleaning, please let us know as we often have days down at the church to complete maintenance jobs and would be more than happy for any assistance you can give – please don’t be reluctant to come forward. We have plenty of jobs that can be undertaken by individuals of all levels of skill and competence!
Thank you for your continued support & prayers.
Philip Norman, John Burridge (WHBC Maintenance Committee).

Prayer Chain Jenny Lane
Philippians 4:6 exhorts us not to be anxious about anything, but to bring everything to God in prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, and this is what the members of the Prayer Chain have sought to do throughout this year, with the many requests which we have received.
It has been a privilege to share prayers for and with those in need, and a joy to receive answers to our prayers by God’s grace, love and mercy and to know His hand of love on our lives and on the lives of those for whom we pray.
The Prayer Chain has had a busy year with many requests, and we praise God for His many answers to prayer in His great love and mercy. Sadly, the number of members in the Prayer Chain has diminished considerably recently, for various reasons and we would be delighted if others felt called to join forces with us in this invaluable ministry. If so, please contact either Jenny Lane or Coral Burridge. Thank you. As Paul states in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, ‘Rejoice always….pray continuously….Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in
