The pvrposes of the Methodist Church are the advancement of=
The Christian faith in accordance with the doctrinal standards and discipline of The
Methodist Church;

Our aims:
To be a church that welcomes all, celebrates God's love, offers opportunitiesto explore the
Christian faith, seeks to serve in the wodd and to challenge injustice through'lntentional
Hospitality,. We assess our work and rni55ion through the aspects of Our Calling- Worship.
Learning and Caringi Service and Evangelism, ènd A Methodist Way of Life
The Church fulfils its objectives by offering worship every Sunday moming, with Holy Communion
approximately once a month, including an additional monthly early Sunday morning Holy
Communion service, a short service every Wednesday lunch.time and a conversation group
monthly on Sundayevenings. On othersunday evenings, worship is offered elsewhere in the
Circuit, the grouping of which we are a part.
The Church supports a wide range of groups, offering both social activtties and events to
encourage the spiritual development of the congregation. Members support each other by the
offering of mutval pastoral care, including Home Communionsfor members who are house-bound
or in care.
Temple Methodist Church has an informal partnershipwith the local United Reformed Church, and
St John the Evangelist, and holds vnited services and opportunities for spiritLsal development-
such as short courses, and joint community events.
Temple Methodist Church is registered for same-sex marriages in accordance with the majorty
vote of the Church Council, following awider consultation among its members.
Achievements and Perforniance
The trustees have taken note of the Charty Commission guidance on public benefit and in
particular their guidance on charities for the advancement of religion, when planning their
activities. The artions taken bythe church meetthe requirementforthere to be an identifiable
public benefit or benefi'ts and that such benefit 15 to the public or a section of the public.

During the period of this repo¢ we have welcomed several new attendersto services and events,
and bookings for use ofthe premises have increased on the previous year. The provision of
recorded online services, fellowship and worship, resourced through the Circuit provide a
connection for those who are no longer able to attend in-person worship.
Worship ha5 continued to be offered through a weekly recorded Circuit Service uploaded to
the YO￿￿be page of one of our Circuit churches. We also offer a fortnightly Ciicvit evening
service over zoom, and Prayer and Bible studygroup5throughoutthe Circuit.
The church continued to nurture its relationshipwith its partner churches, and maintsin its
profi'le among the widertown church networks.
Pastoral care continued throvgh the di5tribLrtion of notices, letter5 from the minister and
treasurer, and distribution of the monthly magazinethrovgh email, and delivery by
members of the congregation. A sense of care and fellowship was maintained through
phone calls, visit5, and home Communion.
Opportunities for social interaction for elderfy and vulnerable people are held, including the
popularand well attended weekly sessions of'Pop-In', and thejob club, Work-wise, which
is ajoint initiative with Taunton URC, and which we 5UPPOrtwith a managerand
volunteers.
Our Church and Community Workertontinues to work wtth hirer5 of the premises in line
with ourcommitmentto an inclusive hospitaltyand welcome, thus generating important
income. Music exams, book lavnches, and concerts have been held throughoutthe year.
Interest groups, Such as a varietyof U3A groups, SLN and 2BU are regularweekly events.
We continue to offer a venue and resource worship 5ervice5 for Oueen's College, currently
four times a year- Founders. Dayi Prep School Harvest Festival, Christmas Carol SeTViCe,
and Holy Week Service.
The congregation has continued to 5UPPOrtvarious charitable activities throvgh envelope
collections and events.
The church offers seasonal craft and activity half daysforfamilies connected to church,
Circuit and communrty.
We have links through our Minister to a local school for'special. assemblies and in 2024. a
Joint Christmas event atTemple with the Good Afternoon Choir.
We continue, with the CircuiL to be involved as a founder member of Citizens Somerset,
involving ourselves in the local campaigns and actions.
Pledges begun duringthe projettto renovatethe roof. to include the installation of solar panels,
have continued beyond the completion of the projert, in SupP￿t of the building's ongoing
maintenance.

Mitigation of Risks
These are considered by the Resources Comrnittee who oversee the day to day running of the
charity and reportto the Church Council. Professional advice istaken as required.
There is a regular review process carried out by the Church Council to enstjre that the Charity is
fulfilling its objectives.
The Circuit, the umbrella bodywhich overseesthe Church. has adopted a Safeguarding Policy-
covering both children and vulnerable adults- and ensures that all its local Churches adopt similar
policies. A local Church Safeguarding policy is in place. overseen by a local Safeguarding Officer,
and reviewed annually. The Circuit is also working to ensure that Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
training is upto date among its church and circuitofficers and preachers.
Financial review
During the yearthe Church had totsl receipts of £119.555 (2023-24 £207k) and dispersed £1281370
12023-24 £284).
The employment of a worker at the Church has produced additional income from the letting of the
premises and thi5 15 building.
The trustees of the Church oversee the income and expenditure of the church and monitor the
contribution made to the Circuit bvdget.
Trustees do not foresee any factors that will signthcantly affect the financial performance or
position in the nextyearortwo.

These sums are used to pay the Circuit a5sessmenL to maintain the large historical buildingi
employ a Church and Communtyworker. and a Cleaner, and engage organistsfor Sunday
se￿ices, weddings, and funerals.

The long term aim isto hold a General Reserve of 50% of annual expenditure as a contingency fund
to meet the Unexpected demands of a 200 yearold Listed bvilding.

Restricted fvnds are expended on the objertivesfor which the moneywas donated as soon as is

The annual income from our older endowments is £137 peryearand is credited tothe General
Fund. Recent legacie5 received and held by the Trustees for Methodist Church PurF)oses have the

annual income accumulated with the Trust. Endowmentstotalling £55,300 have been designated
for support of the Church and Community workerand remaining endowments will be considered
for use by the Church Council and will be spent atthe appropriatetime.
