At the heart of our xtivrti'e$ are the beneffts offered by the pasloral mL8sion of the Church, in which we are
involved in our own local area. These beneffts of course include spiritual support in the great landmark events
of lifo, such as baptisms, ￿n￿MiatiOns. weddings, and funeral$. However. they extend much more widely than
this, and include supw for the sick and elderty and others in speaal need, and the spiritual and social beneffts
of regular or (￿a8￿n81 attendarKe at church services.

occa$i¢nal basis, and al 11.00 am M TI￿r$daYS. On Sundays at 10.00 am, we hehl an'AII the Family S8rvlce'
on the first Sunday of the month, a Family Eu¢harisl on the third Sunday, and Par18h Communion on the
remaining Sundays. The Famity S8ThtKe has often been led by our your4J people.

to anyone wishing to make a regular commrtment to le¥din9 the congregation in singing at servi¢es. and to l*am
about the rth variety of sacred music. We belie¥e thal the musi￿1 training involved has strong education81
benefits, and many of our fom*r ch)ir mem￿r$ have gone on to aC￿￿e success both in music and in olhor
walks of Irf•.

attenders comment on how frierKIty and vRkoming they a￿. and how they a￿ a great y)cial $eThice to the
ttr•vn, as well as a musical one.
We have very good relationships with our local schods v*7th regular visits. haryest and carol Services are
very popular and well attended. We also value highty the social and other aclivities connected with the church.
Many special gTOUPS exisl in the Church, for a vafiety of puwes. and aMho(tgh they are largely attend¢d by
mgmbers ofth8 church community, they are OP￿ to all7￿th(WJt distinction.
In addition the church is a venue for a number of outsth music organisatrons. induding regular concerts by
Herts Choral Swety the Ptwnix Bi9 Band. We ab50 the hosts for the Hertfordshire MUSK Fe8tsval.

Apart from the activrbes already mentioned above. have a Flower Club which both arranges flowers in the
church building. including for I￿ading$, and organises occasional sperAal events. an Art Group which has held
number of exhibitions, a Work Party to undertake esseftbal maintenance tasks and an active group of
bellringers, which we share Sl. Andrthvs Church. Our Mothers Union bran¢h dosed in January but our
members are joining the Dbce8an Motherfs Union.
We have signed up to Eco Church bn oth to ex￿ine Impro￿ our environmental iryact as a church and
church hall. In addition, we have conty.nued our series of Green Talks on topics such ay %%oter and waterways,
birds. and trees, open to everyone in the communty on a Saturday, lunches available 30 that peopl• can
meet bthrehand and have disCuss￿n8 about these and other issue.

During the year our operatjng d*it Wa8 £18.574, reduced fmm 2022 largely to the good finandal resu
of Sl John's Hall ar￿ some relief from the very high utihty costs in that year.
We were able lo make infvll ¢)ur requested c1w1￿ contrlbuts.on of£76,752 to the Dioce￿ ofSL Alban8 which
effectivety pays for the costs of the Ministy, as V•*ll as supw)rting the Bishop's Harvest Appeal. Other charities
have beneffted from u$ beMI9 open for part of the year to occasional ser¥i¢e$, in partE'cular funerals and
weddings.
We repaired the wlrKIow8 damaged by vandalism in 2022. the ￿￿$t of*thich was c￿ered by in8urance. Wo ar•
now seeking lo Instsll CCTV arouThJ tho building to enhance 8eoJrity, with the encouragement of our
underwriters. We have ai80 suffered from intermittent kn'ler failure and have hèd to spend nearly È3,000 on
repairs. Wth one of the t%￿) bollers pemanenty ou¢ of aCt￿n we are at Ttsk of suddenly having healing in
our large trMJilding. Great woth ks done by our Work Party wtruch saves us employing contractors at significant
cost.

number of projects in the buikling and at Sl John's Hall, is used extensNely by tommunty groups.

land behind, on which there is an ongoing prqect to create income and value by builduig a few houses. We
have a large church whkh is eXPen￿ve to run with the present cost of utilths. The leg*y has given us an
opportunty to consbder hcN4 best to replace ¢)ur currenL l￿el￿ble heatiry $ystgm and lo install CCTV. Our
