Following a period of conversation and discernment, as described in previous years, the Methodist Conference of 2023 authorised the merger of 4 Districts (Bolton and Rochdale, Cumbria, Lancashire and Liverpool into a single North West England District INWEDI from 1" September 2024. Followingfurtherdiscernment, the Conference of 2024 approved the inclusion of the Manchester and Stockport District into the North West England District from the Same date. Thus, all objectives and activities transferred from 1# September 2024 have been subsumed into the objectives and 8Ctivities of the NWED, with assertions made that the 8Ctivities in each of the merging districts will be honoured and sustained, at least while an integrated mission plan for the new District is formulated and put into effect. Similarly, from 1" September 2024 811 achievements and performance 8re the domain ofthe NWED, 8nd no further reporting is given in this brief explanatory report. Additionally, this report makes no comment is made upon financial performance post 1. September, which is the domain of NWED to all whom all finances and assets are transferred. As reported in the TAR forthe period to 31" August 2024, at the time of transfer, the Liverpool District was a going concern and NWED will reflect that standing in its report forthe year ensuing- Since the fund8mental purposes of any Methodist District are the same, and extension of the priorities of the Methodist Church of Great Britain, the Trustees of the Liverpool District assert that the assesstnent of public benefit confirmed bythem. will continue into NWED. Relevant resolutions were passèd in the synods of each of the merging districts to authorise the transfer of all District responsibilities, including 811 assets and liabilities to the new District. therefore constitutionally the Liverpool District, along with the others, ceased to exist on 31" August 2024. However, administratively there were some loose ends after this date. mainly due to the 31" August falling on non-banking days. Therefore, certain receipts from the Circuits of the Liverpool District were received into the District Funds, modest interest was also applied and annual administration charges were applied prior to the transfer. as reflected in the 8tt8ched financial statements. No 881ance Sheet statement is shown, since all assets and liabilities have tr8nsferred. Additionally, there were some modest restricted land in particular endowment) funds where resolutions are needed to effect the North West England District's lor nominees) ability to administer those funds, but in all practical senses the accountability and accounting for those funds was transferred to the North West England, and all such funds are accounted for and will be identified in their Trustees Annual Report and Accounts, which will be duly audited in accordance with all legal requirements. The Ch8rity of the Liverpool District Methodist Church has, to all intents and purposes. ceased operation and can now be closed.
