## **Superintendent Minister: Rev Melanie Greenall** 7 Bramble Close Kendal Cumbria LA9 6FF ## **Annual Charity Commission report September 2023 to August 2024** The circuit continued to work to support the life and mission of the Methodist Church in Kendal and surrounding area. The circuit was very pleased to affirm the probationary minister working with the churches in the Kent Estuary section in his ministry. During the year another presbyter unfortunately had some time away from ministry due to illness and support for that person and the churches they had pastoral charge of was provided by the circuit. The circuit leadership team was encouraged, when following a period of discernment, the circuit meeting was pleased to appoint a new circuit steward. The sale of two chapels progressed during the year. One chapel was sold and the funds released for missional purposes; the process of arranging the sale of the other chapel was much slower. The circuit meeting agreed grant making guidelines that would be used when deciding how the released funds could be used by the churches within the circuit in an equitable and open way. With heavy hearts the project group members for the circuit project at Milnthorpe, M:HUB, advised the circuit meeting that due to a number of circumstances it was time for the circuit meeting to consider the future of the project. The circuit meeting in September decided that the project would cease on 31[st] May 2024 and that the building would then be put up for sale. The circuit also hosted a visit from the Connexional Property Development manager who visited a number of buildings and offered advice. Resolutions were brought to the circuit meeting regarding the merging of five Methodist Districts to form one North West England District. This process continued throughout the year. Consultations began about the possibility of the eight circuits in Cumbria merging to become one large circuit. Discussions about this continued through the year. The circuit leadership team met and discussed the circuit’s mission plan [it’s Priorities for Action] before feeding back to the circuit meeting. Conversations and voting took place in some churches about the God in Love Unites report from the Methodist Church. In May the Children, Youth and Families network arranged a successful Pentecost Praise event for children across the circuit. Following a successful probationary period our probationary minister was accepted into full connexion and at the end of June a number of people were privileged to attend his Ordination Service. All this was in addition to the regular work of the circuit in the areas of safeguarding, equality diversity and inclusion, property, finance and data protection.
