## **Trustees Report & Accounts for the year ending 31st July 2022**

## Charity Aims -
- to relieve the suffering of abandoned, unwanted and neglected dogs in need of care and protection, by the provision of temporary accommodation and a re-homing service.
- to relieve the suffering of injured and displaced wildlife by a recovery service and provision of care and rehabilitation.
- to provide sanctuary and care for rescue horses and ponies until permanent adoption is found.
- to advance public education in matters concerning the welfare of such animals and birds.
## **Report**
Despite the devastating Covid 19 pandemic with associated severe restrictions improving, the situation continued to have an effect on the charity, as indeed, the rest of the world. The constraints implemented whereby no public were allowed beyond the gates and then only by appointment, proved beneficial to the daily running of the work. The minimal staff we employ were able to function more effectively with fewer interruptions without reducing the number of prospective new dog adopters. The suspension of volunteers onsite, including work/college/school/Duke of Edinburgh placements, and closed unit of staff, resulted in a Covid free environment for the early months of the lockdown and was initially extended
November 2021 was a devastating month. Our longest serving staff member of over ten years passed away after a few short weeks following a terminal cancer diagnosis. Her daughter is also full time employed at Wolfwood and as we only employ a team of four working with the dogs and wildlife it was shattering.
At the end of the month Storm Arwen annihilated our field stables, some wildlife pens and brought down some tall trees - the stables were beyond salvation. No animals were hurt, but some re arrangement of accommodation was necessary. An online appeal brought in a number of very welcome funds and encouragement. We have some wonderful and much valued supporters.
It was a challenging grief-stricken time adjusting staffing levels and honouring annual leave.
Our two charity shops, which re opened with a vengeance after the lockdown, have continued to flourish. We are very well supported with copious amounts, of mainly very good, donations. The income generated has continued to rise despite the poor economic situation countrywide, as we offer quality inexpensive goods and have a notable reputation within a local area of high poverty. The introduction of card machines in both shops has proved significantly beneficial.
March 2022 brought about the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Masses of aid was being raised, but it was noted that thousands of animals were affected too. After consulting and clearing it with the Charities Commission, it was agreed that the March takings from both our charity shops be donated to an amazing small British group rescuing stray and injured animals in areas others wouldn’t deem to venture. It was publicised and with some extra donations we sent a staggering twenty four thousand pounds to Breaking The Chains charity - the overwhelmed founder rescuer even tried ringing from Ukraine to thank us.
The steady stream of dogs in need of care and a new home carries on, providing us with challenges and a never ending learning experience. The wildlife casualties continue to arrive, irrespective of world events or crises, providing us with a frantic few months from April to September, supplying amusement and an increase in our knowledge and understanding of the natural world. We look to resume the links of students placements from animal care courses at local colleges.
With the reluctance of the population to venture out for public events we have not undertaken anything public, but our amazing supporters continue with online funding, albeit reduced, for which we are very grateful.
The much awaited and delayed expansion of our facilities is on hold again following a resurgence of a plan to re site the M6 junction near us. This will have an effect on our rural location and until all implications are known we continue in a period of dormancy.
The charity continue to flourish and we are financially stable.
