The Church operdtes under the Constituuon agreed In 2009 which follows the
options agreed the 8apts.st Union of Great Britsin with the Charlty Comm15slon.
The Church is a charitable unlncorp)rated asscKlatlon. The Deacons 1ndL￿1ng the
Minister act as Markqglng Trustees and rep)rt to the Church Members. The Trustee5
meet regularly, and the Church MeM￿r$ meet several tlmes durlng the year. The
Treasurer and the seC￿trry carry out much of the admlnlstrats'on, t￿t other Deacons
have delegated roles. The DeKons are dected by the Church Members. To fulfil its
mission, furttr￿r benefit the general puNic arKI serve communlty, the Church's
building in George Street Is home to a wlde ra￿e of communlty actlvltles.

Secretary's Report for 2023
The year began wrth a sprlng-cleaning day In the church on 7 January, and the
building looked much t*tter for it.
At our January church m￿￿(￿J1 Rev Ivan Page was elected to ttE dlaconate.
Church life continued as usual on SuThJay m(mings and mldweek prayer and house
groups. TIE informal seating a￿angerneY1ts made the church much more welcomlng
and We￿ apryeclated lry tx)th ￿ular members and ￿sItOrs. The church r*wsletter
continued to be delivered each week by email, or in ￿int.
On 29 January we Ma￿ed Leprosy Sunday with a look at the WO￿ of Lekyosy
Mlssion In Bangladesh, arKI we Joined in the BMS Day of Prayer In February. Our
Ukralnlan familles moved on, tyjt we Fxayed ￿ularlY for a contatt servlng the
with opera￿on Mobilisation, On 18 Felxuary we hosted another collectson day for
Mad-Ald, focuslng on help for Turkey arKI Syria.
21 February saw a Shn)ve Tuesday Pdncake party to ￿leI￿ate our ministerfs 60th
birthday. On Go(xJ Frlday we held a sh¢Jt time of prayer and ￿flectiOn, a￿1 Easter
Sunday started wlth breakfast a￿1 conts'nued with the rnomlng se￿1￿ whlch
Included communi¢)n, a Baoism arKI f￿r new memlm belrvJ welcomed Into
fdlowshlp,
On Saturday 10 June Ryde GB re[yeSe￿ Natffional Glrfs, Brlgade at the Colond's
Parade on Horseguards Parade, Girls, Brlgade annual awards nlght was on Saturday
l July and ttE GB summer camp twk pl￿ from 29 July to 5 August, at Holtwood,
near WlmlM)me.
On Thursday 21 Septemter we held the church AGM when we retK)rted on the last
year and presented the accounts for 2022. Sally Pratt was reaffirmed as Secretary
and acting TreaSu￿r. We had no success in firKliNJ new deacons, which was causlThJ
a lot of extra work for the existing team.
Sunday 24 September saw wr annual Harvest serrf1￿, arKI GB Parade, focusing on
the work of Tearfu￿1, wlth (bnations of fcx)d trj the Island Foodbank.
On Sunday 8 Octoter, we celebrated the church s 175th anniversary wlth a t￿Ing
and share lunch together after the service, a￿1 a Fyayer walk arourKJ the sites
a5SOCiated with Ryde Baptist Church from ts earliest days.
The annual Service of Rernemlyan￿ incorrx)ratirvJ a Girls, Brigade Parade service
took place on Sunday 12 Novemter.
Christmas events began with an impromptu Girls, Brlgade Natlvity, continued with a
GB Christmas coffee moming arKJ bc#)k sale, a Christmas coffee moming with carols

and a Church Christmas party. These were followed by a Gingerbwd House maklThJ
party, the annual Carol Service on 24 December and a Christmas Day ￿lebratiOn.
S)me new outreach ventures vfft In the rAanniThJ slages towards the end of the
year and started in earrEst In ]ariuary 2024 - a Sattjrday eVl￿1r￿j free 5UPtEr and a
Monday momlng parent and tothller group. We applied for a kitchen inspection and
a￿anged food hygiene tralnlng ts 10 voluntews.
The bulldlng continued to be used ts courses and groups as well as our own
activib'es. Coffee momings, Bridge sessions, Seetec back-ttrwcxk help sesslons and
NHS franchlsed diabetes pre4ention group sessions continued, along with Ryde
Soclal Herltsge Group quartedy meetings arKI various AGMS for local organisations.
We a￿ used as a venue for tM)lice tralnlry and regularfy welcome a charltable group
provKJing suppx)rt for people ￿ tyobation. We a￿ ww preferred venue for Ryde
Town Council who use the kxemlses for all commlttee and full coundl meeting5. The
Art cla55 and Qulrky Crafter5 contlnued thrO￿h the year.
sin￿ March 2023 the Secretsry has been (*)Ing the work of TreaSU￿r as well as
Secretary and hO￿ul1Y has succeeded In t￿IngIng order to a lot of prevlous
confuslon. She has managed to complete the 2023 accounts, usirKJ the spreadsheet
programme set up by the previous treasurer, arKI they have now been apwoved by
the extemal examiner and are [￿nted for acceptsrKe by the church.
Desplte much eX￿ndItUre on the lift and the reF4acement of the manse b)Iler and
water tank, the churth Is In a healthy llnancial r¥)sltlon. This is thanks to the many
groups who pay to use the premises, as well as the generosity of memters, for
which we are grateful to GCKI.
We lost three older memt*rs who had long been unable to attend church for health
reasons. Four new members were welcomed in 2023, arKJ there We￿ six
sigrk3tions.

We report on the accounts of Ryde Baptist Church for the year ended 31 sl De￿rnber
2023, which are set out on the attached four pages.

The charitls trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. Th8
charity's trustees consider that an audFi is not required for this year under section
144 of the Charities Act 2011 and that an independent examination is need8d.
It is our responsibility to-.
examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Charities Act,
to follow th8 procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity
Commission under sedion 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Charities Act
to state whether particxjlar Matters have come to my attention.

Our examination was carried out in accordance with general dir8Ctions given by the
Charily Commission. An examination Includes a review of the arxounting records
kept by th8 charity and a carparison of the accounts presented with those records.
It also includes consideration of any unusual ttems or disclosures in the accounts
and seeking explanations from the trustees conceming any such matters. The
procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an
audit, 8nd consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a
'true and fairf view and report is limited to those matters set out in thg statement
b810w.

In connection with our examination, no matter has come to our attention:
1. which gives us reasonable cause to believ8 that in any materi81 respect, the

to keep accounting records in accordanc8 with section 130 of the 2011
