STRUCTURE. GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
The Parochial Church Council {PCC> is a corporate body established by the Church of England.
The PCC op8rates under the Par￿h1O1 Church Council Powers Measure and is a registered chartty.
The melhod of appointrllenl of members to the PCC is sel out in the Church Representation Rules.
All Church attendees are encouraged lo register on the Elector81 RON and stsnd for election to the PCC.
The Red Letter Project is a separate charity number 1174618 which has some trustees in common with
the PCC. The accounts of th8 Red Latter Proj8Ct have b88n consolidated on the equity basi5 Within these
financial slatements in order to fijlly rdgct all the activities undertaken by the PCC.
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
The PCC of Sl John's and Sl Wllfrid's has the responsibillty of Covoperating with the incumbent within
the ecdesk8stical parish in promoting the whole mission of th& Church. pastoral, evangelistic, social
and ecumenical. It also has maintenance responsibilities for the churth premises.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
Parochial Church Council
The full PCC mel five tirnes during Ihe year with an average attendance level of 67.8%.
During the year the policies on safeguarding and ex offenders r￿ruitment were re&Yopted and all PCC
members undertook the Church of England- 'Basi¢ Awareness and Safeguarding Foundations, online
training courses. Trwning is currenly takin9 place a'Dom8stic Abuse Awareness, course.
The PCC oversaw the implementation of 'Project Psalms, which involv8d daily readings by church members
Sunday semions on the Psalm of the day. The pa￿Sh weekend at home look place in March 2023
which was also supported by attendees from our link with Buckingham Parish Church. During the w88kend
a group was commissioned lo establish a Sunijay evening group at Saint Columbas the hop8 that a
congregation will be planted there during 2024. The Riding Lights Theatre C(xnpany brought a production
to Saint Wiifrids in September 2023 and thg evening was enjoyed by all. There was also the creation of the
Zindigi Project group wh￿h wll oversee the community work at Saint Columbas in Horton Grange.
Churth attendance
There are 168 padshiongrs on the Church Electoral Roll th 123 at St John's and 45 at Sl Witfrld's of
whom 81 are re$￿ent in the parish with 87 non resi(tent. These attendances represent a nel increase of
four parishioners on the lolals lor the pravious year.

Funding was established for three more Mlsslon Apprentices to work aoross the parish Marmik Ral
and Rachael Amiitage being based 8t Saint Johns 2nd Kolo Koleni operating from Saint Wiwfids. In addition
to thes& three persons Andi Calvert was also given an employment opportunity as Zindigi Project manager.
The Saint Johns Conn8cI groups which were relaunched in 2022 have been struggling with fewer people
attonding than in tho prgvious year which meant that plans werg put in plac8 to encourag8 people to study
t￿ether in already established culiural and community groups.
There are a siJnificant nLimber of church members who are hougebound or who fall ill and we are grat8ful
for those volunteers who lake lime to visit them and gtve encouragement in their varlous circumstances.
The Tuesday Fellowship Group continued to meet on a monthly basis and we have had a varted range of
SP8akers wtrm) hav8 given talks on a good rang8 of subjects. Members of the leadership committee have
been in place for many years and it was a great d&lHJht wh8n Andi Calvert agreed to take over the role of
leader which has given a new dy￿arni( to the gfOUP.
Caplivaled womens breakfast has continued lo be held on the last Saturday of each month for fell¢)wship.
teaching and worship but there was sadness in May when we lost our leader Ruth Illingworth. After a few
months many of us thought that th8 group should continue and in the autumn we began meeting again.
The Saint Wilfrid's family has continued lo glow steadily during 2023 and we hil an encouraging mi18slone
in October %then el￿t members made their Publ￿ commitment at a special church seNlce. Our work in
the community Continues with the Saint Wilfrid's Pantry. the Stay and Play sessions and an infornial
partnership Scholemoor Beacon. We are a150 l¢Joking to establish a w811b8ing wnmunity café which
we hope will be a draw lo those in the local community who lack the benefsts of a ￿ntrdI gathering space.
Th8 building project has been succassfulty completed and there is riow a fully functional kitchenette which
has made a big diff8rence lo the hospitslty that we can offer.

Our children's work on Sunday mornings continued during 2023 wlth Ihree age groups from a Greche for
the litue ones right up to young people of fourteen. To meet the needs of older 10gnagers a youth group
named Alive in Christ was set up last year and this mgets 8very Saturday evening. Here we gather together
to pray, re& the Bible and have fun playing tsbla tennis, table football. uno. ninja and pool.
Al Saint Wilfrid's our mission apprentice has been working hard to establish soma fomi of provision for
young people and children. We are working with a local primary school to buikl re18tionships and the cullure
of Saint WiWrKY's is changing to cultwate a wam envlronmenl for our children and youth provision.

The PCC is a public benefit entity wtthin the m8aning of FRS102. The financial stslerngnts havg begn
prepared under the Charities Act 2011 and in accordance %Mth the Church Accnunting Regulations
2006 goveming PCC individual accounts together with FRS102 (2016) as the applicable accounb'ng
standards and the 2016 version of the Ststemenl of Recommended Practice- Accounting and
Reporting by Charities ISORP FRS 1 r121.
The flnancial ststemenls have been prepared under the historical cost convention. The financial
statsmenls inclucl& all transactions, assets and liabilities for which the PCC is responsiblg in law.
They (lo not inclu(Jg the accounts of church groups that th8ir affiliatrjn to another l)ody. nor
those th81 are informal gathering5 of church members.

Restricted funds comprise revenue ¢Jon81ions or grants for a S￿ffic PCC intended by the
doncf. Where these funds have unspent balances. interest on their p￿lad investment is apportioned
to the indiwdual funds on an average balance basis.
Unrestricted funds arg incom8 funds which are lo be spent on the general purrx)ses of the PCC.
Designaied funds are general funds set aside by the PCC for us& in the future. Project funds are
designated for administrative purposes only and such funds remain unrestricted with the PCC being
able to move any surplus to other general funds.

The lay staff employed by the PCC parbcipate in the Pension BLtNder Scheme secuon of Ihe Church
Workers Pension Fund {CWPFI- The Scheme is administer8d by the Church of England Pènsions
Board which hdds the assets of the scheme separately from those of the Employer and other
participatiThJ emFloyors.

Consecrated and benefice property is not included in the acctyjnts in accordance wlh s.1012} (a)
and Ic) of the Charili8s Act 2011.
No vabje is placed on move3ble church fvmishings held on speGial tnjst for the PCC by the church
drdens and which require a facumy for disposal since the PCC considers this to be inalienable
property. All expenditure incurred during the year on consecrated or benefice buildings and moveabl8
church furnishings is written off as expendilurg in the SOFA and separately disclosed.
Depreciation is provided on all other tangible fixed assets over their estimated useful lives as follows..

There was rn) remuneration or reimbursement of expenses made to PCC membets during the year.
11) RELATED PARTY TRANSACTIONS
The PCC allocated the restricted funds of £112.352 previousty held in Its Red Letter Project account
to a separate charrty on 31 December 2017.
The Red Letter Project (Charity No. 11746181 commenced rts operations on 1st January 2018 to
undertake various community acts'vits'es in the Great Horton district of Br&Ylord induding the operatlon
of the village hall and the provision of a food bank.
No separate disclosurg of transactions be￿een the two relat￿ parties is required 8S these accounts
the combined operations of both charities.
