Aims and Organisation

The object of the Trust is to advance education of the residents of the Stevenage Borough Council area, in particular, but not exclusively, by provision of grants to enable them to take higher education courses.

Review of Progress

The trustees continue to meet quarterly during the year, in 2021 this was sometimes by Zoom due to the Covid pandemic, and to consider applications for grants and to plan forthcoming fund raising events. Most significantly, towards the start of the year, founder trustee Ms Margaret Ashby died and bequeathed a sum of £50,000 to the Trust. During the year, income (including the bequest) was £53,749 raised from grants, donations and fund raising. Grants of £9,350 were paid to 19 successful applicants. The trustees have a policy to hold substantial reserves so that the trust can make more and larger grants to successful applicants as the work of the Trust reaches a wider audience. Reserves at 31 December 2021 stood at £ 57, 217

Public Benefit The trustees have considered the guidance published by the Charity Commission on Public benefit and believe that they comply in that grants can be made available to any

applicant from residents of the very wide geographic area of Stevenage Borough Council - Post code areas SG1 and SG2.

Statement of Trustees Responsibilities

The Charities Act 2011 requires the trustees to prepare a statement of accounts for each financial year which comply with the regulations made under the Act.

The trustees are responsible for keeping accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy the financial position of the charity and contain entries showing from day to day all monies received and monies expended by the charity and the matters in respect of which those transactions took place and also contain a record of assets and liabilities of the charity. The law also sets out the trustee’s responsibilities for the presentation and content of the trustees Annual Report.

The trustees are also responsible for safeguarding assets of the charity and ensuring their proper application under charity law and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
