In 2021 ZING has continued to develop its
strategic support to charitable organisations in
its three core areas:
1. Financial
ZING proactively seeks out organisations to
fund and consequently does not have an
application process. We are an early stage seed
funder of youth non-profits who typically have a
collaborative and systemic approach. We tailor
our financial support to each partner
depending on their requirements in the form of
unrestricted core funding. A summary of our
financial support is provided in the next section.
2. Connections
As initiated in 2011 our ZING Partner Network
has continued in 2021 to offer our partners
access to our network of experts and peer
collaboration through events and networking
opportunities. ZING also continues to connect
partners and non-partners to other funders and
sources of expertise (such as digital technology)
3. Digital Technology
ZING has continued to play a role in
promoting/advocating digital transformation in
the Third Sector and delivering hands-on
guidance and support to our partners and
selected other youth non-profits.

as follows
1 Providing financial support to 10 charitable

2021 Grants

The details of the 10 grants totalling approximately £305,000 are as follows:

a) Root 73

Root 73 is an artist development platform, a fully equipped recording studio, and a record label, managed by a group of young people born and raised in Hackney. Root 73 was built by and for

the local community. Their approach places heavy emphasis on community activity and on the social importance of working together for a common goal, while also bringing together all the necessary elements needed to help artists break into the music industry. A grant of £30,000 will enable a more full time focus for one of the founders and look to develop and pilot a more formal apprenticeship initiative.

b) Reconnect London Reconnect London is a collaborative group of London-wide school leaders who have joined together to collectively address the challenges caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Zing provided a seed grant of £20,000 (channelled through existing partner The Difference) to enable a project manager to be hired and scope out an initial vision and strategic plan. c) Big Brothers Big Sisters UK (BBBS)

Big Brothers Big Sisters creates long term mentoring and friendships that support children to thrive in life. These positive relationships have a lasting influence on young people's lives, boosting their self-esteem and helping them to achieve their goals. It is based on an established and evidence-based mentoring programme of the same name in America. Zing provided a first year unrestricted grant of £30,000 to support the development of an operational digital platform already part built out by Oxford Hub who are running the first BBBS programme in the UK. d) The Lily Jo Project

The Lily-Jo Project is devoted to eliminating the stigma surrounding mental health through music, digital resources, and community engagement. Zing provided a first core grant of £25,000 to enable further development of the resources and take up by schools. e) LightHouse Childrens Homes

A third and final grant £35,000 core funding to further invest in the building of a team to set up a new type of childrens home informed by a social pedagogy approach, a relationship-based way of working with children.

f) Get Further (through ARK Ventures)

A final grant of £35,000 (matched by the governmentʼs Community Match Fund through ARK) This was core funding to further develop a high impact tutoring programme in FE colleges to help students achieve key achievements and unlock opportunities in this most overlooked part of the education sector.

g) Fair Education Alliance (FEA)

A second unrestricted grant of £35,000 being used to develop collaborative digital tools for the FEAʼs ever increasing membership. The FEA is a coalition of over 200 organisations which aims to tackle inequality in the education system and whose vision is that no childʼs success is limited by their socio-economic background.

h) Learning with Parents

A second unrestricted grant of £35,000 to support LwP whose vision is that every child is supported at home to fulfil their potential. LwP support over 20,000 families across the UK to enjoy learning Maths and English together and partner with schools to reach the most disadvantaged children. Zingʼs funding is mainly focused around the development of LwPʼs digital platform.

i) Young Trustees Movement

A third and final grant of £30,000 early stage funding to support the campaign to double the number of young people under age the age of 30 on charity boards by 2024.

j) Unloc

A second unrestricted grant of £30,000 focused on the development of a new interactive e-learning platform. Unloc.online provides a series of online short courses designed to encourage students aged 11-19 to explore entrepreneurship, employability, leadership and career pathways from the comfort of their own home. The team continues to iterate the platform and add new content with partners, driven by a desire to support the development of young peopleʼs aspirations, skills and career prospects coming out of COVID-19 and into the fast changing labour market.

In addition though Zing didnʼt directly fund PeaceFirst in 2021, a further grant of £40,000 was provided by The Blagrave Trust for PeaceFirst and channelled through Zing.
