## **Circuit Annual Report 2022 - 2023**

The South West Tyneside Methodist Circuit consists of 11 Methodist churches one of which has two sites (Strathmore Road Rowlands Gill and Chopwell), and a second which has a thriving café and walking church in Greenside linked to Centenary Methodist Church in Crawcrook. Telephone services that began during the pandemic church closures have connued as they connue to be accessed by those who would otherwise be unable to aend worship. The morning service at Strathmore Road is offered online using Zoom.

The Circuit connues to employ a full-me children & youth worker who has developed Brick Church in three locaons this year. The monthly Circuit youth group has aracted more young people this year. Support is offered to workers with children and young people in local churches at regular meengs, as well as in the delivery of outreach events. Schools have connued to invite our worker in to lead assemblies.

The part-me employment of a Community Worker in Blaydon has connued for a second year. This is supported by funding from the circuit as well as partner churches within the Churches Together Grouping. Main acvies include running the community larder, providing summer acvies for local children and organising Christmas Dinner Hampers for referred families. Volunteers to support these acvies come from the churches within Blaydon.

During the last year the Circuit has noced an increase in mid-week acvies. Discipleship groups, and bible studies are now being held in a number of churches. Community engagement has developed with Warm Spaces being set up around the Circuit publicised through the Gateshead Council. Elsewhere Men’s breakfast, Aernoon drop in, Ladies Fellowships aract people from within the churches and the wider community.

The Circuit has provided support from its mission fund to the Strathmore Road congregaon in developing their work with children, young people and families through the appointment of a Children and Families Pastor (30 hours) and two part-me Youth and Community Outreach Pioneers.

The aims of the organizaon (Circuit) are included in our Mission Statement and policy. Methodist Churches witnessing together for Christ in South West Tyneside.

- We exist to embody the love of God in Christ through the Holy Spirit. We will endeavour to do this by enabling individuals and communies in their worship.

## **Safeguarding**

Every person has a value and dignity which comes directly form the creaon of people in Gods own image and likeness. Chrisans see this potenal as fulfilled by God’s recreaon of us in Christ.

Among other this this implies a duty to value all people as bearing the image of God and therefore to protect them from harm.

Methodist Connexional pracce outlines commitment to the following principles

- The care and nurture and respecul pastoral ministry with all children, young people, and adults.

- The safeguarding and protecon of all children, young people, and adults when they are vulnerable.

- The establishing of safe, caring communies which provide a loving environment where there is informed vigilance as to the dangers of abuse.

- We will carefully select and train all those with any responsibility within the church in line with the Safer Recruitment principles, including the use of criminal records, disclosures and registraon with the relevant veng and barring schemes.

- We will respond without delay to evert complaint made which suggests that an adult child or young person may have been harmed, cooperang with the police and local authority in any invesgaon.

- ministry of informed pastoral care.

- We will seek to challenge any abuse of power, especially by anyone in a posion of trust.

- authories to any member of our church community known to have offended against a child, young person, or vulnerable adult.

- In all these principles we will follow legislaon, guidance and recognised good pracce.
