## **Chair Report September 2023 AGM** The last academic year was another busy one for Friends of Rupert House (FoRH). FoRH events included the wonderful children’s movie night, Christmas fair, school disco, Easter egg hunt, May Fair, Great School Run, creating a Rupert House Little Welly team and the parent Christmas and Summer parties. And the parent body was key to the success. This could have been as class rep, a member of the core FoRH committee, helping out with one of the numerous FoRH events, running the second hand uniform sales or simply buying a ticket to an event or a cake from one of the monthly cake sales. Through the support of these fun and successful FoRH events we have raised (minus expenses) a total £25,381 – an incredible achievement when £10k was our aim. A portion of monies raised (£7,929) was used to install the fabulous traversing wall along the side of the astroturf which we hope will bring the children much enjoyment. Remaining funds will go towards an exciting year of FoRH and centenary activities in 23/24 plus of course support next year’s school initiatives and charitable endeavours. _(It is also worth noting that Forest School payments (£17,562) and DT suite (£3,500) also came out of the accounts this year despite being part of the 21/22 academic year fundraising efforts)_ Our chosen charity this year was Fund a Future Uganda (FAFU), a charity started by a former Rupert House pupil to support the education of children from impoverished backgrounds. The monthly FoRH cake sales have raised almost £2000 _(£1998)_ for FAFU, £461 for Comic Relief, £283 for Macmillan and £458 for the UNICEF Earthquake Fund. Through FAFU we have additionally started the £700 annual sponsorship of a year 4 child named Babiryre from the Ugandan slums to attend school. FoRH also continued to assist school with their ongoing support of the local NOMAD charity for example with the donations for the Harvest Festival and Easter eggs. And helped organise our school choir to sing at a local old people’s home. Plus helped establish a link with the wonderful Mukuru slum children in Nairobi who now are very grateful recipients of our old striped uniform. For those new to FORH I would just like to take a minute to remind us all of our five aims: - **Support and enhance the pupils' experience at RH** (Proud to say I feel we have done this in spades this year with all the wonderful events for the children culminating in our ability to install the traversing wall!) - **Promote Good relations and communications among parents, pupils and the school** (as ever this again was achieved through the fabulous class reps who collate and cascade info to their year groups and act as fountains of knowledge and support for parents. Plus we held the GLOW xmas party for all parents this year which was great fun and of course finished off a very fun and social year with the Summer party extravaganza!) - **To support the schools Headmaster, Staff and Board of Governers and the wider community** (this took a number of forms this year and included continuing to build a close and open relationship with Mr Armitage on FORH matters who has been kind enough to meet regularly with myself plus attend these meetings monthly and remain open to FORH ideas and feedback. It has also been via the open dialogue we have had with school re supporting them with Stevensons issues - special mention goes to Ash who continues to support FORH with this. We have also helped support school with fostering relations with the wider community. This has included organising carols at an old peoples home, helping drive donations of harvest items and easter eggs for NOMAD and for the first time having a Little Welly school team in addition to the fabulous Great School Run event. We also organise gifts for teachers within our year groups and continue to ensure Support Staff are also now recognised for the hard work they provide to support our children (£1850 been given as summer and xmas gifts to Support Staff this academic year).) - **To act as a fundraising body for the school** (this I have already mentioned we smashed as an objective with £25,381 raised from the various children's events, cake sales, christmas raffle, Little Welly sponsorship and the fabulous auction at the summer party. These events meant we sailed past the 10k target that we needed for the climbing wall! High level breakdown of FORH sales/events where most monies were raised (minus expenses) is below; however, more detail on fundraising amounts is available in the 22/23 FORH annual accounts: - Second Hand Uniform Sale: £1463 - Caps: 423 - Christmas Fair: £447 - T Towel sales: £65 - Christmas Cards: £479 - Movie Night: £589 - School disco: £1190 - May Fair : £2888 - Little Welly Sponsorship: £745 - Summer Ball Auction: £14,000 - Finally and v importantly the **FORH aims to contribute to the overall welfare,** - **happiness and success of the school** . And I really hope you can all see that this has always remained a top priority in all that we do and is demonstrated by all the examples I have mentioned above plus generally through the ethos of the parent body at school here. Admin: Meetings are face to face once a month and I would greatly appreciate if you/one of your reps within your year group could attend. We also need to ensure all are set up on the zettle app to enable reps to sell tickets for events etc. There is also a FORH drive which I would suggest certain members of the core committee are added to. And watch this space for a rep get together - hopefully in October! We are very excited about what 23/24 has in store for FoRH and will continue to work hard to contribute to the overall happiness and success of the school in whatever way we can. We have a wonderful calendar of events planned (which I will share with you shortly) and a brilliant group of reps to help deliver these! Just leaves me to welcome you all to FORH and say how excited I am about all we can achieve together in this exciting centenary year!
