The Trust runs a School for ursder- privileged children tn Varanasi. India. Currently the Trust educates c. 435 children wtth 21012023- 2101 children nursery. kindergarten and year one to seven. S012023- 501 full time residentsal students and ha5 17512023- 1751 children tegi5tefed fgr an after-school club. The Trust also runs a sewing centre, teaching sewing skills to 50 womet) 12023 -501. It costs approximately £4.80012023 - £4.8(M)I per calendar rnth to run the school, 91 of which 15 now funded by the Charity, which currently sends monthly donations o £4.512023- £3,5(Xll to the Trust. Both the Charity and the Trust werè set up by Lury Guest. a UK national who runs the Chandramauli Trust in India on a day-to-day basis and a15E) rasses awareness and encourages donationstothe Charsty in the UK. The Trustees confirm that they have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity Commission's general guidance on PLtblic benefit when reviewin8the Charity's aims and objertÉves and In planning future activities. The Charty made one strgnificant one-off donation during the financial year in addition to the part funding of the running c05ts of tli¥ TILf5t school aT varanasi. I his was tor £18,020 to help fund the cost of the construction of 3 ew classrooms on the first floor on tli¥ iiew 51te adjacent to rhe original schcL)l. Despite this one-off cost, the Charity's cash at the bank increased slishtly from £170.138 Lv £179.233. A5 at March 2024. the Trust is Èduratine t435 Childron, with 210 in nurseryand prtmaryand 175 iii evenlng school. There are a further 50 as full boarders with children agprt fi_14 In addition. the Trust i= continuing to run & 5ewiTr)x centre and is helpingto improve the 5eamstres5 Skills of 50women. The Charity r.Jrrpntly funds c 9170% in 20231 of the running cost of the schcnl, with the balancing funds required raised in India. The new spar.p in the adjacent site has provided additional capacity to increase schwl hours from 5 to 7. improving education and Eetting the children more used to a full school day. The Trust has also expanded the education to an additional year 8 and formal state govern¥nent aCcd[tatIon yeafs 6 to 8 has been made. The Charity continues to keep the cost of rvnning ttself tD a rninlmum, with total costs of £1,116 for the year- effÈrtively £900 of accountant'> fe&s for the yearly examination and the yearly 5ratement of aCCOLnt. and the .b3lancÈ being fe@5 totslling £216 for tle Just Givirtg account. The Trustees continue to carry our all the_ adn7illiStration of the Charity and the Trustees are not claimtng for expènses, maximising funds available for distrlbution. In terms of governan. the r¢umber of Trustees is five and in line with the strategy set out in the 2019 report. Lookin6 forward The Charity will continue to tsrget increasing its monthly donations to fund the school in Varanasi to reflect the increasing runnine costs caused bythe Èeneral tOSt of INing increases andthe higher c05t of teacher salaries forthe older years that comes with government accreditstion. This will require us to Èncrease our average monthlv donation from £4,5 pcm lincreased to £5.(K)O pcm as at June 20241. The Charsty also tntends to Ltse part of its accumuloted surplus to provide capitsl funding for continuing the building on the new stte. The frr5t floor is nearit7g completion and planning has been received for the second floor extension at an ettimated cost of £20.000. It is intended that the newfloor will have a computer lab, forwhich *unding has been identrfied from a corporate donor. TheTrust also needs to r3ise moneyto complete the purchase of the plot of land at the edge of Varanasi over which they have paid B deposit. and which is intended as a long term self-sufficient and sustaÈnable horne for the school. The anticipated capttal dor¢ation by the Charity to the Trust forthe land outside Varanasi is being delayed until the fina5 el$tratIon of the Trust's FCRA bank account. This frustratTrngly continues io be delayed with comptexity over particular FCRA requirements for the Trusys structure. The Trust is looking at restrurttsring itself to allow FCRA registration. ThFS will allow money to be sent to the Trurt as oprx)sed to via Lucy Guest. It will help the Charsty to put itself on a firmer long-term footing and allow less reliance on the trust txjilt up ¥ia long personal association between the current Trustees and lucy Guest.
